  • Nick Saban, dominated college football for 14 years before retiring. His Process is the driving force behind the winning culture at Alabama. With Nick Saban gone, what do you think will happen to Alabama's Legacy?

Well he is the goat. But when you have the best players that makes it easier. So glad we had him for the time we did. I remember everyone saying he wouldn’t stay long. Was a great ride. Thank you so much coach.

      * Since 2003, he owns 4 NCs where either he, or the opposing NC did not win their conf. You know, that validation that most NC coaches, far and away, own.
      * LOL. He owns another where his team played 5 more games than the opposing team (all that extra practice and game experience) Sure, right. That is a valid NC.
      * He owns yet another where the opposing QB had 150 yds in his career when he took the 7th snap of the game. Proceeded to turn it over 5 times (4 Intt, 1 fumble). Sure, right. That is walking the walk.
      * And he owns a NC where an onside kick was not called offsides. See the kicker plant his left foot beyond the 35 yd line or whatever it is/was in 2015.
Poor man does not own 1 legit NC.

You're wrong about Nick Saban winning 4 national championships where he didn't first win the conference. He has 2 national championships like that, and the two teams he beat in order to win those two championships *came against the teams who did win the conference.* He had to beat the teams who were the conference champions to win those two national titles. Proving Alabama was the better conference team those seasons anyway.
Next, it's not his fault the Big Ten put more effort into trying to not play football in summer 2020 than they did of trying to, and had to submit to fan outrage by slapping together a 7 game schedule at the last minute after they realized the long-term damage not playing in 2020 would have on the Big Ten brand. The only thing Nick Saban & Alabama could do is play the team who matched up against him in the national championship game. Saban didn't get to pick the opponent. If you want to blame anyone in this scenario, blame the damn CFP Committee who selected Ohio State to advance to the playoffs in 2020 despite only playing a 7 game schedule. The committee only chose Ohio State because they didn't want the controversy of including 2 SEC teams in the playoffs when 9-1 Texas A&M was the team who should've been invited to the CFP instead of Ohio State that year.
Oh, and "being offsides on a kickoff" that didn't get called is the flimsiest, most pathetic excuse I've ever heard for winning a national championship. There are no 2002 Miami vs. Ohio State late pass interference flags in the corner of the endzone in Alabama's trophy hall. Plus, I suppose all those 80+ other plays that got ran in the game that night had no impact on the final outcome, huh?
Why don't you follow your own logic here. Go back and look at all national championship winning teams. Every single one of them had a little bit of luck go their way at some point during their seasons too.

@Britton_Thompson I see you edited your comment. Maybe you better go back and edit again.
Since 2000, there have been 24 NCs. 7 of those NCs were won by a coach that did not win their conf OR played a team that did not win their conf. Saban owns 4. 2003, 2011, 2012, 2017. Period. How many coaches would have loved to play for a NC but were denied bec they didn't win their conf? It's called entitlement. NCs with an entitlement asterisk will never have merit.
Re 2020. Who said anything about it being Saban's fault that he faced a team that played 5 less games in 2020. But the fact is, he did. 5 real games and a ton of real practice made this a joke of a NC.
Re 2015: After the kicker was offsides for AL, both teams could not stop the other. If AL gets called for offsides, Saban doesn't kick another onsides at that point. The game completely flips. LOL remember in 2016, AL could not stop CL on their last drive.
LOL More. Funny you mention the 2002 NC. Dan Fouts called it: bad call. We all saw it. Like ALL of Saban's NCs that 2002 NC will always be questioned bec the game was over if the called was called correctly.

He was NOT SO dominant. Just 1 example of so many.
During the CFP, he won 6 SECCs.
And then, he was able to convert JUST 1 of those 6 to NCs.

@brendanlewis9829 That a good question. There may be a lot of ties.
We know there are a lot of NCs that should be revoked. 1984 BYU and 2020 AL should be revoked, 1st and foremost.
*12-0 BYU beat 6-5 MI, and
      *12-0 AL beat 7-0 OSU.
I would argue all of NDs NCs should be revoked or probably most of them. How can you avoid conf teams and still considered a valid NC team?
That being said, in the last 24 NCs, 7 of them were against 2 teams where 1 did not win their conf or played a team that did not win their conf. Saban 4, Herbie 2, Coker 1.
These would all be candidates to be revoked.
I think there are a lot on ties with 2 valid NCs. Saban is not in that list. Even 2015 where a critical offsides was not called invalidates that NC. On the onsides kick, the kicker planted his foot beyond the line.
