    Awesome. Just started my 87 squarebody project and was looking at braking options. Didn't know this existed. Will be heading to the junk yard for the Astro hydroboost. Hoping to get a chrome/billet master cylinder that will work with it. Going to install a serpentine kit on my engine. Your plumbing explanation was very helpful on what I need to do.

    I finally got a hydroboost for mine. I'm cheap been looking at swap meets. Looks like an easy upgrade just mount it and connect the hoses. I was thinking of modifying the bracket on the booster but now thinking of making an adaptor to mount to the firewall the mount the booster to the adaptor for future ease of replacement. Not sure yet.

    Great video! When you added the hydroboost return to your reservoir does it need to be above the fluid line so that it's a clear path?

      Thanks! Yes, try to get it towards the top of the tank. Mine is right about at where the fluid level sits. The only issue I've had started in 2020, the original 1972 pump is starting to get weak. I think it's going to get a modern unit with a remote reservoir this spring.

    I saw someone somewhere (on the Internet HAHA) that the hydroboost return line was Teed into the steering box return line.

      It could be, but I wanted to make sure it had no restriction. When I went on the first test drive the pedal was slow to return, ended up drilling out the return fitting as large as possible on the HB unit. Seemed to help a lot, these units must be sensitive to that.

    I have a whole 02 Silverado I'm pulling engine an such for a la swap in a 78 monte, can I use the hydroboost out of that truck? Are they the same?

    • @whitelightning2

      Should be pretty much identical, I'd use RockAuto and pull up a booster for your truck and one for a 95 Astro Van and compare them.

      +Bucks Bucks Should be similar, they haven't changed much over the years. I am going to switch to a modern PS pump on mine at some point, probably a LT1 style with a remote canister. The current one is pretty worn out.

    What is the size of the fitting on the return line from the hydroboost? Is that a Astro Van hydroboost?

    • @whitelightning2
      @whitelightning2  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure on the size, it was the original one that came on the unit. Yes, it came from an Astro van however a friend rebuilt it before selling it to me.

    where to find those adapters?

    • @whitelightning2
      @whitelightning2  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the power steering ones, check Russelperformance.com in the Power Steering section. They're in there. I can't remember exactly where I got the Saginaw to -6 adapter, i'll try to find my notes from then and let you know. Hope that helps.
