What an incredible original composition by Jay Chattaway. First up is Steve Khan and Billy Cobham with their "Jimi Hendrix Experience", then the tempo changes for Dexter Gordon and Stan Getz on saxes to smoothly roll into the nightclub, then Maynard Ferguson and Woody Shaw trade trumpet blows, followed by Ralph (Mr. Magic) MacDonald on percussion with Bob James on piano and George Duke on synth, leading to Billy Cobham on the drum solo and finishing with the always electric Eric Gale on guitar. Who could ask for anything more?
"One of the greatest recordings ever made." You'd say that was an exaggeration if you never heard it. I've listened to some of the tracks from vol. 2 fifty times and they still surprise me.
I remember at a younger age my sister and I would spend hours upon hours listening to a diverse mixture of rock jazz fusion funk r&b folk and everything in between but when she came home one day with this double album Montreux Summit volumes 1&2 I was blown away by the sheer talent of the best of the best in their genres.
Thank you very, very, very much for posting this gem!!!! ...I was 21 y.o. when "Montreux Summit Volume 1" was released... And thanks for the memories as well !!!
I couldn't remember the name of this "cut" and finally found it this morning through pictures on Bing. I recognized the album cover. Been looking for it since I discovered TH-cam. Thanks for posting.
GRANDES!!!
