How to: Building Walthers Cornerstone Kit - Heritage Furniture Backdrop Building

- In this video, I demonstrate building and painting the Walthers Cornerstone Heritage Furniture Background building kit with the help of Mrs. Freak and Freak Jr. I did run into an issue with the directions and I explain how I had to correct it if in case you choose to get this kit for your layout.

Wow, I am so glad you made this video. You saved my bacon on this kit about gluing the walls together. Worth a sub right there.
Thanks! If you got the backdrop building version like I did, you'll want either Styrene strips or a sheet for the back to make it more stable. Something I've learned a year later.
@@TheTrainFreak Thanks. I plan to. I'm also adding styrene for each floor. At night I can have a light on for one floor and off for others.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's had issues with Walthers instructions 😅 I had extra steps with parts that were not part of the N scale kit...
Oh I had a whole bunch of extra parts. I plan on calling them and explaining what happened.

Instead of buying that expensive woodland scenics just plug light diffusing film for $18 to put on the windows, you can buy a 12"x12" piece of vellum paper from Hobby Lobby or Michael's for less than $2 dollars and its basically the same thing. Works exactly the same. Tip for budget modelers. The building looks really good Jason.

Spray the back side of the window glass with dul-coat. lots cheaper. You are correct, Walthers directions sucks. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours

Man, poorly set up instructions, but WOW, did you make that building pop, Jason! Brilliant! I also love the names you give your businesses- great wordplay and malaprops. As far as lighting, would there be a light outside each door on the bays leading to the freight cars? Happy New years and cheers!

That came out great! I really like the look of the different colored blocks. I swear by the Rust-Oleum 2X spray paint. I’ve had issues with other brands.
Thanks! Rustoleum does work great but the glue doesn't like it. As long as you scrape off the joints, no problems!

Great build, yes you need to read between the lines on Walthers kit buildings, but one question why do all the details of the build off camera
Thanks James. Honestly it took me two days doing this and no telling how long this video would be. I was on Steve Childers's live stream yesterday painting the front wall.
Nice job on the building it came out nice. So for lights did you want all the windows to light or do you want at have some light and others not? You can also use aluminum foil as a reflective surface on the back and bottom of roof for more even light distribution. Or you need to add more lights.

Great build Jason! I have found that with Walthers kits that some of the instructions don't add up. It will add alot of character to your layout.

I'm currently building a combined kit of two these. Did your kit include part 51? It's supposed to be a small pillar back from step 2. I can't find part 51 in either kit.
Mine didn't come with it either. I have been meaning to contact Walthers about it.
