Lástima que sean tan cortos los vídeos de Gabi. Uno aprende mucho, no tan sólo con el juego sino también con el concepto de la magia que él tenía. Gracias por compartir
I'm Yota Fukuda who you were talking about on twitter. I'd like to thank Japanese magicians who kindly mentioned me, which finally reaches people close to Gabi Pareras. Here, let me explain the more detailed background of this plot. The plot ("Oil Spill and Water Leakage" or "水漏れと油漏れ (mizu-more to abura-more)" named by Toyosane Sanada) dates back to at least 2006 and was published in a Japanese booklet in 2008. Since then, I've been searching a similar plot and asking people if they know the same plot because I believed that other magicians already came up with it and so it must not be my original. In fact, the plot is influenced by many magicians' ideas including Arturo de Ascanio and Juan Tamariz, and more directly based on Nobuyuki Nojima's "421 Oil and Water (published only in Japanese)". But no one knew exactly the same plot. Over the past ~10 years, countless Japanese magicians created and published their own handling of this plot and a French magician Billy Debu released his routine in "Crossroads" (I heard from Nobuyuki Nojima that Billy Debu created it at least in 2016 after watching Nojima's variation. You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/ScL3R82MkmI/w-d-xo.html). One of the variations was also performed by Kazuki Sakai ("Indy") at FISM ASIA 2011 Hong Kong (card magic 2nd prize) and FISM2012 Blackpool. Tomoya Horiki recently taught me that Gabi introduces the plot in his Spanish book as a trick that a Chines magician showed him. Several months ago, I happened to hear from a resident in China that the Chinese magician Lao developed the plot without knowing the presence of "Oil Spill and Water Leakage". Lastly, thank you for uploading this video! I'm very happy to watch this Gabi's beautiful handling. I've participated in the lecture of Gabi Pareras and Pipo Villanueva held at Tannen's Magic in New York several years ago. I can still vividly remember that I really enjoyed and was deeply impressed by their tricks and philosophy.
Hi Mr. Fukuda! It’s a great honor to talk to you and to know about the origin of this trick. As far as I know (because of my friendship with Gabi), he had no idea about your routine. That Chinese magician showed him a decreasing oil and water sequence, which ended with that fantastic idea and Gabi developed a personal handling since this guy didn’t discuss the details of the routine with him. In the video the same Gabi admits that he doesn’t know if this idea was original with this Chinese guy. Whatever he developed your same idea independently or not I thank you for this brilliant plot and congratulate you for adding this interesting variation to a classic where, as Gabi says un the video, seemed not to have space for more original twists. Sincerely, Joaquín
