Nikon's have a way of punching way above their weight class. Me and my girl we both bought compact mirrorless full frames. I got the Z5 and she got the A7C. While almost costing twice as much as my Nikon, at least where we live, when we went out for some landscape photography, the Z5 quite surprisingly stood toe to toe and even outclassed the A7C in some aspects. I was overjoyed and she was plain jealous. Plus I feel the Z5 is better built and feels more natural and ergonomic compared to the A7C, not to mention perks like a superior EVF, superior IBIS & weather sealing and 2xUHS-II slots. It was to a point where she asked me If I wanted to swap camera's with her and I said 'FUCK NO!'.
We are getting married, so yeah, I had to swap cameras. The Auto Focus on this A7C is great though.

I feel like Nikon designed the Z5 specifically for wedding photographers. The 4.5 fps burst rate is just fast enough. The 1080p video is just good enough unless you're a serious filmmaker, and I don't really mean wedding films. The Z5 has a headphone jack, which is arguably much more important than 4K video if you're using this as your primary camera.
The IBIS makes run-and-gun shooting very easy, which is great for wedding and event coverage.
The dual SD card slots are also great for that so you can have a backup.
    If you have a Z6 or Z7, the Z5 makes a great B camera.

You can't back up your video - simply unacceptable today compared to the competition - even the Z9 doesn't back up video

Awesome video and presentation! Been a reader for years and this may be my first time watching you in a video. Subscribed!!! I share your feelings wholeheartedly, Nasim, with regards to the LCD screen. I have not purchased one of these new ‘Z’ series cameras, yet, but know of what you refer to when I apply it to cameras I am using now. Nikon is an Icon of a Company, but they have always maintained an air of arrogance. This I am convinced is one of primary reasons they have gotten into the situation they are in. I have nothing against Nikon, just my opinion, that is shared by many. Great great informative video!
    Best to you! 👏🏻👍👍👍👍👍😁✌🏻📷

Awesome review, answered some of my questions re dynamic range, high ISO etc. I had a Z6 but really didnt like that I had to use an XQD card, reader etc so sold it. Purchased a Z5 a few months later and enjoying it. Totally agree re the overlay on live view, ridiculous and spoils the experience, not enough to change but definitely something I wish they would sort out properly, which they could do via firmware to add an additional option to the DISP button. Cheers - John Pouw NZ

Video content is tough, thanks for making this video version of the review! One thing that might be nice if possible is to either use a lav mic (closer to source) and try to get the levels a slight bit better (I heard a bit of distortion in my headphones from maybe having the level a little hot).
The image quality was great though); are you recording with a Z6?

    • @photographylifeextras7572
      @photographylifeextras7572  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Jeff!
I realized that the sound was distorted at times when I was editing. Although I had the recording done on an external device, trying to sync that back after I edited the video was just taking too long, so I decided to keep it "as is" and I slightly reduced the volume. I apologize for that!
I will be reducing the recording volume of the mic for my next video - good lesson learned! It sounded OK at first, but when you distort the sound, it is just like overexposing a photo - not much can be done other than re-recording.
Yes, recording with the Z6 as usual - it is an amazing video camera and it never overheats, even when shooting for hours at a time!
Working on recording the Canon EOS R6 review. Need to return a bunch of gear ASAP, so I am trying to rush it all through.

@@photographylifeextras7572 Good luck! I now record two separate audio recordings, in case my first had bad levels or a buzz, hum, or anything (it's happened too many times to count, ha!).
It's especially tough if you're recording solo, because you can't have another person to double check framing, levels, etc. while you concentrate on actually saying the relevant things for the video!
I'm glad you enjoy the Z6 for video-I'm considering migrating my DSLR setup (D750 + D700) to a Z5 and Z6 at some point, mostly since I could incorporate them into my video workflow more (currently use an old Sony a6000 for most video).
Looking forward to the Canon review, thanks!

While I've gotten used to the on/off button on Nikons over the years, I do like how Canon does it where the on/off button is not part of the shutter button. I have accidentally turned off my Fujis and Nikon's while going to take a shot sometimes (more so on the Fuji) because this function is near or integrated around the shutter release button. That's my only gripe about how Nikon does this. Canon, and I think Olympus and Panasonic all put separate power buttons or dials on their cameras so this doesn't happen.
In the end though I think the Z5 is a great beginner photographer who wants to get into full frame, and perhaps doesn't shoot wildlife or sports. I mean I wish Nikon would stop using the AA filter (my Fuji doesn't have one, and neither does my D7500) and those are both roughly the same resolution, although the Fuji uses the X-Trans which supposedly is part of the reason Fuji can get away with not using an AA filter).
