@@vincent-ataramaniko Well, the entire point of dragmag is that it is high risk high reward, and because it loses to some match up almost outright (although ...... Dragmag is infamous for being able to pull off insane reverse sweeps even in unfavorable match ups if you are not careful against it), it still is worth bringing to a tournament and will have a pretty consistent game to game performance overall, because as much as it can lose outright to some teams, it also can also be an almost guaranteed win in many match ups (Balanced Sand for example generally doesn't appreciate dragmag)

DragMag is still a very potent combo with fairies around, but its a bit more (I guess) specific to how it should be built. While Mag is still damn near required, there's so many options now in steels that can beat most basic mag sets, so now double steel is semi-required to also keep a steel around to check fairies. Sub/Iron Def Mag + SpDef Heatran has been my favorite combo to run, as Mag can double as a phys wall and designated steel removal tool, while Heatran can check any fairy not packing coverage for it, and gets a lot of good switch ins, while also having rocks. Any non-grounded dragon is typically a good starter regardless unless you have a non-grounded steel
dragmag honestly sounds like old goats from Overwatch where instead of building a balanced team you just go "this type of pokemon/character is really strong, therefore I should just make an entire team of them" and having it work by sheer murder potential
Why over thunder over psychic? Doesn't that hit tentacruel and rotom even harder? I don't have a ton of B/W experience but it was just one thing I had a question on.
Hello! I'm basically a casual observer of 6v6 metagames so my apologies for this potentially dumb question but what makes magnet pull ok to use but arena trap and shadow tag worthy of a ban? Is it just because they only work on one type vs the other two working on every non levitating/flying pokemon (and in newer gens, ghosts iirc?) which makes it easier to beat big metagame threats you otherwise couldn't? How would you feel about more type specific trapping abilities being added in the game? Also I enjoy hearing about your vast knowledge of past gens and your enthusiasm for them as well. The fact that you are a fan of 30 Rock as well is pretty cool too. Best of luck with the channel growth going forward!
yeah i'd say you've got the right idea. same reason why pursuit was a very healthy move, basically these are amazing typings (ghost and steel) and by having a mon that can be dedicated to trapping them you lessen how good they are due to their overwhelming presence. in addition magnezone can't beat all steel types and has to pick and choose which ones to beat. Ferrothorn can beat non sunny day zone in rain, heatran beats most zone, skarm gets beaten but can run shed shell or whirlwind on the switch. so it's more fair than dugtrio/goth where there are many targets to trap that do not all have counterplay.
I'd Say that trapping abilities on General are broken on the singles format, regardless if they trap a Big chunk or just a small part of the meta. Overall because they remove an important aspect of the game which is switching, this abilities usually become so centralizing in their scope of support, that in order to not lose from team preview they have to incorporate certain suboptimal sets on the Main targets of trapping, like Shed Shell Skarmory. This often means that either you are running a suboptimal item on an otherwise good Pokemon, or you get into a game which all your choices end up in favor of the user with the trapping ability.
Do you think specs dragonite with moves like draco meteor, ice beam, flamethrower, dragon pulse, thunder, surf, hurricane etc would be viable for dragmag? From my experience it works as a less offensive but a tankier rain team latios which ik dragmag isn't supposed to rely on weather but I really like having those kinds of sets for countering politoed
I know this question isn’t related to the video, but what are your thoughts about the dugtrio/arena trap suspect test in gen 4 ou BKC? I personally am hoping duggy doesn’t get the ban hammer but I can already tell most people are favoring a ban. Poor dugtrio can’t catch a break.
Ik this is an old video and you prolly won't see this, but what do u think of draco meteor on dd mence. Dragon gem puts draco meteor over the threshhold of ohkoing scarf lando-t, as well as many other counters after rocks or other chip damage such as sandstorm or toxic and if draco meteor fails to ko you can always dragon dance on the switch and outrage. Here the meteors also help jumpstart the moxie snowball effect giving you +2 after a dragon dance.
I don't understand why a special wallbreaker like specs Latios would not be advised with physical wallbreakers. Doesn't that compliment them as it can break physical checks like hippowdon and like defensive rotom-w better? Can u explain that further
a physical wall will never stay in on latios. they will switch to their special wall, which doesn't mind going down if it takes latios with it. as a result, the physical wall stopping your physical dragons is still around and healthy. you need to force those physical walls to take your physical hits, which allows you to overwhelm them. if you try to hit them with special moves, they'll just switch.
Just a point of curiosity BKC,if Regidrago,as it is with all it’s moves and ability, existed back in Gen 5,do you think it would elevate the consistency of DragMag or it’ld be just another option to the style?
It would totally be broken lmao That thing with a Specs and Modest nature hits harder with Dragon Energy than a Banded Kyurem Black's Outrage, and even with a Scarf that thing would hit like a truck. I think it would be EXCELLENT on Dragmag yes
It puzzles me that this playstyle didn't persist into later gens. I guess it's very simple - fairies, but Zone is just as good against them, is it not? Currently considering experimenting with it in BDSP, surely Clef, Kiss & Azumarill are just as Zone-prone as Skarm etc. right?
Hey Kevin, great video! Found it very useful to get to know more about a playstyle I was very unfamiliar with. I usually don’t build much BW but come SPL I always like to give my 2 cents on the BW prep, maybe make a couple teams with my “new gen” player mindset, etc. (Though finch’s been my BW player for 2 years so he doesn’t really need much help to begin with), and I think I’ll give dragmag a try. Speaking of which, what do you think about alakazam as a last poke on a specs/cm lati+scarf chomp framework? I assume it’s worse than reuni in many aspects, but I think it’s got some cool traits as well, namely: Another way of breaking teams via latios weakening ttar or jirachi and zam cleaning up late game; make latios able to run more powerful sets without immediately losing to the likes of scarf keldeo in rain; ability to break through (or at least annoy) those protect spam teams that make it REALLY hard for dragmag to beat them (I know reuni does that as well but y’know, still valuable as a last poke there); being able to survive that one attack no matter how strong it may be (i.e. reuni isn’t eating a +1 dragon gem boosted attack vs opp dragmag, zam is); the always valuable yellow magic, or, depending on calcs I haven’t made, maybe recover? You can come in on stuff like heatran repeatedly that way, or tenta if rain is gone, etc. (you can use signal beam or shadow ball last too ig). Maybe running zam has very evident drawbacks I didn’t notice so I’d appreciate you telling me if that’s the case. Last thing, I really liked zf’s team, that man’s always building the weirdest shit but it somehow (almost) always works.
Could you please explain why magnezone normally runs max speed in DragMag teams? It seems better on paper to run 144 speed evs to outspeed spdef heatran, and invest remaining evs on bulk in my opinion.
Idk if someone already pointed this out but gems are banned in OU. Would we just run Lum instead of dragon gem on Dragonite and be fine? Sry if you already answered this
Is hydreigon always unusable in drag mag or do u think there’s situations in which having a second special attacker/psychic immunity would be beneficial?
splitting the rest of the EV's between def/sdef is a wasteful on kyurem-black, if you want to increase bulk on both sides investing in HP is optimal despite it's 125 base stat in HP
I love your vids. But I have a question with drag mag. I’ve never played competitively so I don’t know if black kyurem was better than white kyurem can someone explain who was better?
Hey BKC maybe guides on how to play a certain play style? In this vid you explained how to play Dragmag kinda but that for something like ADV would be cool
I mean most of them had like rly bad movesets. Theres also their stab. The only good stab is with base 90 plus recoil. Thats not a great option. Like every Phy- Electric type is rly slow and there are Earthquakes everywhere. Thats what I think is the problem
Suggestion maybe u can put teams in description to experiment with when u talk of team styles like this if it's work don't bother gr8 vid rlly informative when tryna get into old gens u put a lot of effort in them
I remember him saying he doesn’t put teams in descriptions because he already goes over all of it in the video. He doesn’t like that lazy mentality of “gimme gimme. “ He spent over an hour and a half talking about the team and going over various sets and options so that we as viewers can find what we prefer and use that. If you just want a team the smogon forums have plenty and even if you dont want to go that far you can just skip through and look at the first team he made, which is still a usable team. Not trying to be mean just explaining why he doesn’t.
i know this is a joke but here’s the explanation: with an odd hp value, four uses of sub from full hp takes you down to 1 hp, which is really bad when the opponent has a priority move like banded scizor bp meanwhile even hp numbers take you down to 25% hp after 3 subs, which will activate salac berry early, and potentially let you live a priority move by lowering the hp iv to 30 you get an even number while being able to invest in defense or spdef to survive certain attacks better
Hey BKC, could you possibly do a video about the crown tundra? Like your thoughts on the new pokemon and/or how you feel it'll change the meta? I know SS OU is kinda bleh but I wanna know your thoughts, much love and keep up the good work
If you want to deal with rain dish cruel, why not use psychic on jirachi? It’s stab so it’s better than thunderbolt and won’t suffer an accuracy drop in the sun you set with zone. And you can hit a weakened keldeo too.

Oh hell yeah! I was top 50 with the haxorus lead strat post-genesect ban. What a great time
damn does BW still get a lot of play?
Yeah its fairly popular
splitting the rest of the EV's between def/sdef is a wasteful on kyurem-black, if you want to increase bulk on both sides investing in HP is optimal despite it's 125 base stat in HP
Love all this playstyle analysis man
regidrago would be near unwallable in bw especially with zone
I love your vids. But I have a question with drag mag. I’ve never played competitively so I don’t know if black kyurem was better than white kyurem can someone explain who was better?
white kyurem is in ubers, so it's not allowed :)
Is it great to use sub dd roost outrage nite?
no, 100% has to be dragon claw
What item should i put?
leftovers is the only option
Even i am planing to go for Gen5 OU...
Donphan can be a good spinner in DragMag I guess
Is scarf Garchomp needed in drag mag or
This really drags my mag
Hey BKC maybe guides on how to play a certain play style? In this vid you explained how to play Dragmag kinda but that for something like ADV would be cool
Hey BKC, can you please make a video on why many Physical electric types have suffered over the generations?
Not trying to be mean just explaining why he doesn’t.
no lie it’s mostly so people actually watch the video instead of just looking into the description for the team
Good stuff man I love your vids
Would you happen to have a podcast I could listen to?
I mean his channal is a podcast to be fair
31:55
WHY DID YOU LOWER HIS HP IV YOU MADMAN
GIVE IT BACK
i know this is a joke but here’s the explanation:
with an odd hp value, four uses of sub from full hp takes you down to 1 hp, which is really bad when the opponent has a priority move like banded scizor bp
meanwhile even hp numbers take you down to 25% hp after 3 subs, which will activate salac berry early, and potentially let you live a priority move
by lowering the hp iv to 30 you get an even number while being able to invest in defense or spdef to survive certain attacks better
bruh
I love your podcasts so much BKC thank you for existing
Hey BKC, could you possibly do a video about the crown tundra? Like your thoughts on the new pokemon and/or how you feel it'll change the meta? I know SS OU is kinda bleh but I wanna know your thoughts, much love and keep up the good work
Black & white meta game is boring in my opinion kyurem-black now gets icicle Speer
@Samadhan Jain weather got nerf in gen 6 cause it boring in gen 5
I remember that battle with Roar Copycat Riolu that demolish this team so... I prefer the sets with priority.
Well lucky for you roar copycat riolu is banned
Nice video as always
amazing this is more detailed then half the chess tutorials out there just for one style of play pokemon is just 4D chess
If you want to deal with rain dish cruel, why not use psychic on jirachi? It’s stab so it’s better than thunderbolt and won’t suffer an accuracy drop in the sun you set with zone. And you can hit a weakened keldeo too.
Is another name for DragMag just UngaBunga?
This was inspired by the blunder vid even though it came out before
As yes sun stone garchomp my favorite set
Hehe dragons go brr
I use grass knot on Latios' last slot, it 2HKOs Tyranitar with rocks up on the switch in.
And grtting ride of gastrodon is always nice, gets annoying late game
It's funny because now everyone I play against has this team and I demolish them.
Cool vid
More BKC to distract me from gen 8
Yay!!
does watching and understanding this make me a better bw player?
Latios
I thought it's "dragons and Magnezone"
Make BKC a superstar!!!!!
Ooooooh aahhh more mons!
Dragmag is so fun
#makebkcasuperstar
why was this in my recommended lmao
abomasnow dragmag soon
