The back door will great, as you can sit on the bed and see the beautiful views. I had windows on the back doors also tinted so I could see out, but no one can see in.
Great video, it's really coming together. Doors, leave the back open, fire escape....... electric only, not at the moment. Gas for heating and cooking, solar and lithium for other.
Good night everyone I love watching you and your son John working on your new campervan together I love you so much you make me happy and smile i hope you are all Well and enjoying your new campervan build with your son please keep up the good work up on your videos on your you tube channel
that nut and bolt idea was genius! I'm wondering if the van was once a works vehicle with roof mounted warning lights? You had a productive day and remained positive so- result!👍 Much respect🙏- Kenny
Hey. Thanks so much for your comment. I can't take credit though. I got the idea from a friend who is also doing her van. She has a lot more holes than we do🤦
I had both, I had 4 solar panels and a 2k inverter, also 240v mains, so if in a dull day I can still charge up the liesure batteries. All cost me £500 ISH. so it is possible to have a smaller budget. Best of luck
think is a wise move to get a mixture of gas and electric as there is an old saying dont put all your eggs in one basket am planning a sprinter build which will have quite a lot of wattage but i also want my heater/hot water and cooking to be gas and as i intend to venture up to the artic circle will be putting in a diesel heater to act as a back up ,your van is coming along nicely
Hi. Thanks for your opinion. Everyone seems to be on the same page with this. So looking like my decision is made. It'll get a gas tank fitted. As luck would have it there is a company that does it in my home town.
I have a vw t25 and put 220w of solarpower on the westfalia roof in combination with a 105ah 12v lifepo4 selfmade battery wich is fitted under the driverseat. Iput the battery in a little suitcase for protection and in between the solarpanels and the battery I put a cheap victron smart solarcharger with bluetooth. this is enough for chharging phones, led lights, a 38 liter compressor fridge. but we dont have a television in the van but I think its possible. The battery has a battery management system with bluetooth so you can see how much charge there is. We do make coffee with a nespresso machine through a cheap 3000w inverter of of aliexpress and also have a water heater to make tea offcourse. the cooking we do on little gas cookers because they are cheap and the gas bottles are evrywhere availble.
Interesting. Thanks for the info. Sounds like a good set up. I'm definitely looking at gas for cooking and heating now. Just need to think about how much power I'll need.
It may not be the prettiest solutions but who is going to know. 😉 Regarding electrics, I think full electric will be the future, but when you're on a budget gas is still the best solution.
Another great video. The work is coming along nicely. Blind grommets would have been an easier, neater, solution rather than the bolts but you got it sorted.
@@life_uncharted Yes, they're just like the bigger one in front of those. Standard size is 20mm so open the holes out and use those or hunt around eBay or Amazon for the size holes you have or just leave the bolts in that you already have 👍🏻
Someone mentioned how gas gets awkward when abroad with certificates etc . I am looking at a Clayton power bank with a diesel heater for heat and hot water. Plus a jet boil for backup
You mentioned a company will do the electrics; at what stage of the build do you hand over for that to be done (I’m assuming before walls, floor / cabinetry etc. is installed so I guess there’s some degree of coordination required for positioning and the like? Does the work need to be done by a specialist / be certified? Just curious.
I'll not be handing it to them. They will do me a design that I'll follow. I've done it before on my little van. But figured it was sensible to get professional help on this one. 👍👍
It had lots of small rust spots and places where screws had been put through to bear metal. So we treated it all then primed and painted for ultimate rust protection. 🤞🤞😁

thank you for your help and continued support :)
It is great that John is of an age and with an interest to assist in the build as makes life so much easier. Well done John👍
You are so right. He's such an amazing help to me. Not just with the van. He's my sidekick. 😉
The back door will great, as you can sit on the bed and see the beautiful views. I had windows on the back doors also tinted so I could see out, but no one can see in.
Nice. But afraid our design doesn't allow for this. The beds are too high to sit on 😔. So the back won't have windows
Brilliant idea with the bolts and washers it’s getting there
Thank you. Yes we are slowly moving forwards 😉. Now back to work for a few days. Dammit. Wish I could do this full time!
Great video, it's really coming together. Doors, leave the back open, fire escape....... electric only, not at the moment. Gas for heating and cooking, solar and lithium for other.
Thank you so much. I have to agree with you there. It's definitely looking like the best option 👍👍
Top tip... brake cleaner dissolves silicone, you would be able to peel it from the metal.. minimal scraping.
Ooohhhh.. Love a good top tip😁 I'll bank that one for next time thanks.

Thanks. My friend is doing a budget version like you mentioned. I however have gone all in on an all singing all dancing system now🤦

Great days work! Must be really satisfying!
Oh yes. But blooming knackered. Back at work tomorrow 😭
Its a no brainer having both and cheaper too, but also have electric in place so you can go on hookup if your ever on a site which will save your gas.
Yep. I think you are right. And for sure, definitely have a hook up just incase. Thanks for the comment 👍👍😁
I am frightened of gas so considering going all electric with some solar panels to assist.
I know what you mean. But it's starting to look like I'll be going gas for cooking and heating I think
Great video, well done on that long shift guys. Visor looks good 😁
Hey. Thanks. So tired now. But back at work in the morning 😂. Yeah I love the visor

@@life_uncharted oh and I have a cheap diesel heater from Alie aswell. For less than 100 euro I bought one and build it in my van😉

Exactly. Though now I'm wondering if I want to change it 🤦. Yes. I think gas is the way forward. Cheers for the comment 😁👍👍
Another great video. The work is coming along nicely.
Blind grommets would have been an easier, neater, solution rather than the bolts but you got it sorted.
Blind grommets? Ah ok. They might be what I was looking for in the first place. Is that like the big one just to the front of those holes?
just had a look. Yeah thats kind of what I was after originally but didn't know what they were called 🤣
@@life_uncharted Yes, they're just like the bigger one in front of those.

Interesting. Not thought about certs for gas🤔
Was the roof material too thin to get your welder mate to weld a plate over the holes in the roof?
Hey mate. Yeah it's too thin. He managed to do it with multiple spot welds so it didn't get too hot

How come you didn’t get your mate to weld the holes ? instead of using the bolts 🤷♂️
Good question. It crossed my mind 😂. I might still run it by him but he didn't seem keen as the access underneath is a bit rubbish.
why are you painting the inside of the van?
It had lots of small rust spots and places where screws had been put through to bear metal. So we treated it all then primed and painted for ultimate rust protection. 🤞🤞😁
Not a criticism but why did you paint the floor silver? You are never going to see it
Ha ha. Yeah I know. But with hammerite you get a choice of white black or silver pretty much, so figured I may as well get the one that matched.
wow im a popular guy im friends with john wawa
Ha ha. He says hi👋
WD40 just as good 👍
👍👍👍
Can u not get ya mate weld a plate over them holes from inside
All done. Looking good now. Very happy with the results.
Check out mispronouncined adventures he’s electric set up
Looks like you are not far from where I lived
Ah OK. Cheers. I certainly will. I'm from Thirsk area. You?
I was Boroughbridge
