i agreed with a lot you say .you say faith alone .then you say true saving faith produces works . what is it faith alone or faith and works . works have nothing to do with salvation . you cant put works in there any were . we are commanded to have works but whether we do or not has nothing to do with salvation .
This is a very dangerous teaching and leaves the listener with false understanding. Works are an essential part of professing Jesus as Lord and Savior. YES it is only faith (trust) that saves you BUT the only way that faith (trust) is proven is by your ACTIONS. Your ACTIONS demonstrate your FAITH (trust). Why do you call me Lord, Lord and not do what I say? Those who love Me obey my teachings, those who do not love Me do not obey my teachings. A person who makes the choice to make Jesus their King is making a commitment to honor and obey Him. If you tell people that Jesus is your King yet disregard what your King tells you to do then your words mean nothing. A believer has faith (trust) that Jesus and what He accomplished can save them IF they fall under His Rule. The King has a standard for how He wants His people to ACT (actions) and if you do not make it a practice to act in the manner He requests then He does not recognize your citizenship. What does He want us to do you may ask. Well.... Love your enemies, if someone takes what is yours don't ask for it back but give them even more, do not love the world or anything in it, invite those who are poor, blind, crippled, lame, who can't repay you, to dinner instead of friends, family or wealthy neighbors, don't lend money at interest, don't store up treasures, sell your possessions and give to the poor, be generous even to your own loss and so on and so on. The bible also teaches that anyone who is sexually immoral, an idolater, adulterer, homosexual, thief, greedy, drunkard, slanderer or swindler will inherit the kingdom of God. The last list is mostly a list of don'ts but there is one in there that requires you to do something in order to not do it. That is greed. You must be generous. So if you are tempted to believe that your actions are separate from your faith and that it's not obedience that gets you through the Door then read this verse. Hebrews 5:8-9 Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who OBEY him You may have noticed that it doesn't say BELIEVE in Him but OBEY instead. How can this be? I thought it was faith. The two are inseparable. You can't have one without the other. Imagine a friend of yours taking you to a high cliff with a steep drop off. This friend then asks you to put in some ear plugs and to wear a blind fold. Once you were ready he yells so you can hear him and he says "Do you trust me?" You nod your head yes. Then he yells "I'm going to spin you around for a bit and then I want you to take a big jump forward when I touch the top of your head." Would you trust your friend and jump? Or would you wonder if maybe your friend has gone mad. But if you said you trusted your friend but were not willing to jump forward then your actions show that you didn't actually trust them. It's the same with Jesus. If we are going to trust Him we must also trust that His teachings are meant to be followed.
Nice sermon, Mark Driscoll
