The last couple of weeks I've managed to implement this shot into my game on two occasions which I have never ever dared or been able to do before. On both occasions I was little closer to the wall than in this example. I would explaine my set of thinking in the split second before execution as almost ephiphany like, but i was fully conscious of what was happening. Nice to process it afterwards too! Great feeling!

    Awesome video, thank you!
    I would also note that
    1. the ball is just dropping off the top of its height, with not too much pace - that makes it nice and natural to guide it towards the nick
    2. his arm is completely extended at the shot - he is about as 'not cramped' as you can be. Not giving the ball enough distance is a common fault as amateurs we are much more afraid of not getting to the ball than hitting it inaccurately.
    3. he is slicing the ball from the outside which guides it to the nick after it hits the front wall. (the spin taking some of the horizontal pace off from hitting the side wall, so it doesn't pop out as much). This doesn't work much with a very skiddy ball and in wet court conditions. I think Gaultier and Mohammed ElShorbagy both do this very prominently on the backhand nick.
Looking forward to the Ramy backhand nick technique analysis too, for all 15 of them!

We need a Ramy Ashour cross court Nick analysis.
    Hope you make it🤞👍🏼

I likely will at some point Vedant! It's difficult to emulate since he uses 'non-traditional' technique, which is why I decided to analyze someone with a more replicable technique. Ramy is the artist though, so it will be fun breaking down his technique!

    nice new stroke to analyse!
when playing the volley either on the backhand or forehand, i find that allowing the racquet to drop horizontally to the chest level allows for me to generate that whipping effect for more power as apposed to striking the ball with the racquet at the high/upright position... i think there is some physics at work here allowing for the maximum turning effect of a force (aka moment in physics).
for the volley cross court nick, and similar volley drop shot, i find keeping the wrist firmly cocked and the arm firmly extended key, otherwise it will be easy to tin the ball if the form breaks down.
i've also noted that ramy ashour tends not to cock his wrist too much.. in fact i've noticed that he allows his wrist to droop abit in a relaxed manner.

Thanks for the comment Nicholas. You're right, different players use different techniques. Most of the time the wrist is firm (even if not cocked in the traditional manner). Sometimes the wrist isn't either firm (that requires a LOT of skill and touch)! Good to see your detailed analysis in to the stroke. Keep it up!
