Sounds cool! Someone just joined my discord that said he was working on a VR haptic vest. Here is his video - th-cam.com/video/GVAiyNX4_I0/w-d-xo.html And this is another video which you may find useful - th-cam.com/video/LS-Bk7RuzB0/w-d-xo.html
Your buddy looked very awkward at first, haha. Yeah, including a haptic vest as the harness is totally the way to. Thanks for the update and good luck!
A guy just joined my discord that is making a DIY haptic vest and showed that he is using a military vest as a base. It has a bunch of loops all over it, including on the back. He gave me the idea that I think if I use a vest like that, I may be able to incorporate it into a support rig. I wonder if you're only wearing a vest like that, if it will still save you from a fall, or if you fall if it will awkwardly rid up into your armpits. Hmm. And one thing I like about the bottom part of the harness I have now is I should be able to sit while in the support rig. If I only have a vest, I can't do that. Anyway, lots of possibilities and combinations are possible.
@@finallyfunctional interesting stuff. I pictured the vest having a ring clip on the back, sorta between your shoulder blades, to a bungee to support some weight? But, I've no idea how much weight the support needs to hold, probably more than I imagine. And I agree, your buddy was leaning way forward too much, seems odd he has that impulse. Though, walking is pretty much just series of failed face-plants, so lol. Anyways, good luck with it, thanks for updates.
@@fernalicious I'm imagining coupling the vest to the support rig in a few different points. I'm thinking at least at the middle back, possible more points at lower and higher than that. I've seen the issue with leaning to far forward in several other videos I've seen of people using slidemills, so I guess it might be a common issue.
There’s probably comments about the placement of the belt but id have another harness or haptic feedback suit hooked at shoulder blade height. Good luck!
Fully agree about the belt placement. A lot of people "pull" at the waist or lean forwards to try to get leverage. Your friend almost looked like he was watching his feet while pulling away from the bar support and changing his center of gravity. Perhaps if the belt were higher on the abdomen and the upper harness was used but anchored at a higher point on the support this would help people be more up right (but it would feel restrictive). I believe the Kat walk C belt or the vest may be a better option, although yours would be great for the sitting aspects in VR games. Did you have your friend try it with his eyes closed? That feeling of trying to move but not moving may cause some leaning to take place in order to "get somewhere". With the eyes closed I'd suspect their "reference" would be altered and they wouldn't pull so much against the support. A lot of people have reported that it takes awhile to learn to use the slide mills and "one video" with their first impressions are quite different from their 2nd or 3rd video a week or two later, usually they are more upright and don't appear to be fighting the support. Now to watch the full videos...
Yeah, I like the current harness because it can support sitting. Maybe have that and make a waist strap. Or there are these military vests with loops all over them, so maybe I could use one of those. With a vest I might need to watch out for it being too hot. I had my wife try it with her eyes closed, but not Brody. Brody did mention he wonders if it would be easier if he actually saw himself moving in the game. In my experience with the last motorized version of the vr shoes, it was a little harder to use them in game since I couldn't see my feet.
Seriously.., 🤔 Have you considered ensuring the user has support at both the "Shoulders" and the "Waist"..??? 👍💯🤔 I'd suspect everyone will have a far better walking experience. 😉 Maybe incorporate a modified backpack harness attached to your ceiling connected pole to keep the back upright..??? 😎

Why is your comment older than the video?
@@ErrorRaffyline0 Video was probably set as Unlisted when he posted the comment
Yup, unlisted when I added this comment.
I think walking in VR having a bit of a learning curve is totally fine. You just have to make sure people expect that going in.
Thanks for the feedback.
Brave man, posting his wife's weight online ;)
I asked first hehe.
0:22 Cat be watchin you 👀
Indeed. He often comes down when my wife is helping me with something.
loving this, might try and make a custom VR haptic vest myself. What do you think lol?

Hey man. I like the shoe idea. I have a different idea myself. Have you seen the hamster ball treadmill? I have an idea to improve on those.
Wow
Hey, I think you have to throw neural networks and all kind of control theory on the shoes to make them react in 100 ms precision.

Gotta walk like front wheel drive.
Pushing inclined foot ( up heels ) would be easier that pushing flat angle foot
& Does the harness could lift up some weight ?

Yup. In my next support rig I'm going to have an attachment at the upper-middle back to help keep the user upright if they want.
I think the main problem is how you hold people in place
