    Thank you for showing how you fix mistakes. This is something that is so often overlooked in tutorials that everyone will go through. Being able to see exactly what touching up entails, what wicking away ink looks like - these are very important for building confidence at dealing with brush-slips.

    • @MidwinterMinis

      Thanks! Yeah, mistakes are inevitable, so you may as well learn how to fix them :)

    I honestly can't believe more channels haven't done speed painting videos. The problem that 99.995% of people in the hobby face is too many minis and too little time to paint. Tutorials like this help get more painted minis to the table. Great job!

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Exactly! I think I've painted more models since making this channel than ever before, haha.

      I agree and I love these speed painting videos. Sure, some of my models I want to spend hours on to look their best, but the majority of my stuff I just want to get to the table and look halfway decent. These speed painting videos are perfect for that and I can't wait to see what else comes out of this channel.

      I totally agree i play warhammer 40k for 2 years now and i couldn't finish any army past 2 troops and 1 HQ because painting them took to long and now i have seen how quick black legion can be painted i am sold and really want it done before oktober when me and my friends make a trip to warhammerworld.

    • @Corey91666
      @Corey91666 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gareth they dont look bad although i would probably do a few things differently. however them done like this in a reasonable amount of time and effort will lead to a fully painted project and will be a much better experience then trying to paint a whole army on too high standards to finish.

      I love these videos and the channel, but quite a few people paint for the sake of painting, which may be why there aren’t many speed painting videos, as some people enjoy painting and spend hours on it

  • @ReallyBigBadAndy76

    Lots of folks making “speed painting” videos that really describe high quality tabletop painting. I love those videos but they aren’t “speed painting.” Thanks for your truth in advertising. I have been painting for a year for Star Wars Legion and while I love it, it takes me a while. I wouldn’t have dreamed of buying something like Blackstone Fortress just because I wouldn’t get a chance to play it - it would take me a year to paint everything. But your videos are making me reconsider.

    This is the best way I've found to actually put a fully painted (and good looking) black legion force on the battlefield. The combination of easily achievable results in a reasonable amount of time (even for a slow painter like me) is unbeatable. Well done and thanks.

    This mirrors my technique eerily closely that I've gotten to over around 6 months worth of painting, I try to attempt or refine a more advanced technique with each HQ or full troop box and my skills have vastly improved utilizing simple but useful skills such as these.
    While I mostly already have these skills, if you are a new painter, these techniques will RAPIDLY accelerate the quality of your minis. Look into a wet palette, that is also a massive game changer.

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! I can't use a wet palette unfortunately, my colourblindness makes it impractical.

    Just want to say how much I'm enjoying this series. Its great to come across little tricks and techniques that can get these models ready for Blackstone Fortress as quickly as possible.
    In the interest of speed, might I recommend painting the adversaries in the order in which they can appear in the game. For example, I think the starting line up is Spindle Drones, Ur-Ghul's, Traitor Guardsmen and Negavolt Cultists. All others crop up later on in the adventure. Just an idea! You have a new subscriber either way :)

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes yes yes! Truth be told, I started painting these models during my Christmas break, and hadn't played the game yet. When I played it for the first time with my mate, I was like "oh, piss... I've done these in the wrong order", haha. Anyway, after the Chaos Beastmen, I'll do the Negavolt Cultists and the Traitor Guard!

    • @davidclarke1388
      @davidclarke1388 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Haha, I totally understand. There is the order is "should" be done to get it on the board, but then there is the order of "but this model is cooler and I must paint it now!". I know I've fallen victim to it many times

    Thank you for these great videos. This is my first experience with miniatures and I'm following along. I'm more use to building wooden models and one tip I have (although you may already know this) prior to sanding the bases, I apply a drop of superglue in the divot and add roket powder. This can be sanded down and fills the dent lovely. Used this a lot when filling in gaps in wood. Thanks again and massively looking forward to the next vid.

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've really been enjoying these videos. Makes painting quickly seem like it's very achievable to get a good look model on the table. Would it be possible to show the paint you are using? Sometimes you do, but often you just reference the color. I know it's ultimately up to the painter to decide, but I'm always curious to see what colors of what brands a painter prefers. Thanks and keep up the great work!

    Good video and very nice results!
    Some suggestions (for beginners) if I may:
    -When thinning your paints to create shades or glazes, use acrylic thinner. If you use water and you have "hard" water at home, it may leave some milky residue akin to coffee stains.
    -Paint the physically deeper parts of the model. Example: On Mallex I would paint the cloak first and then the fur. That way, even if you splatter a bit of paint on the fur, you will correct this automatically since you will paint the fur next. This helps you avoid the annoying "patch up process" of going over the model again and fixing paint splatters.

I used your tips for the Spindle Drones and Ur-Ghuls...they came out great and I was basically able to finish all 8 in one night...took maybe 90 minutes total...not counting the primer the night before. So now I have the explorers done and 8 enemies. Ill mark this video but think Ill do the Negavolt's next since they are starter enemies as someone mentioned. To me it seemed that your paints was too watered down when you were applying them? Is that by choice?

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sort of! It's better to make the paint thinner but reinforce the colour with 2 coats. That way you retain control and flow, and still get a nice finish. if you go too hard and too thick, the paint is harder to control. That being said, the metallic was quite thin, yes. Mix it however you feel comfortable :)
