Great video! I am retiring in December and my plan was to buy a Kona Sutra and start bikepacking. Those plans got squashed big-time, at least the Kona Sutra part did. I would be afraid to try to build one myself, but I really enjoyed watching you do it.
Hey thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. Sutras are hard to come by and sell out quickly, unfortunately, especially with the parts shortage. I hope you find a rig that fits soon ! After a few builds you will get the hang of it and it won't seem all that scary.
@@NickelExpressCycling The Sutra is originally equipped with 700 by 40c tires, The Sutra LTD (same frame) 700x 50c, 900 x 2.2 is equivalent to a 56c or so. Ron was referring to the width rather than diameter, not a lot of touring bikes can go that wide.
Nice looking ride. Can you tell me what cassette size were you using? Also, what did you do to that Rival to fit that cassette? And finally, did I miss the info about your rim & tire choice in the video?
Hey Bruce, I am running an 11-46 cassette, and nothing needed to be done to shift that big (with the long cage version). as for the wheels, they are DtSwiss G 1800 withTeravail Rutlands 29x2.2.
Nice build!! Your JUIN disc mechanical calipers you installed are the GT? What's the difference between thr R1? Also, will the JUIN R1 disc brake calipers work with Ultegra or Dura Ace mechanical shifters brake levers? Thanks in advance.
Thanks ! The R1 are two pistons and the GT are four, the R1 and the GT both work with any road shifter/brake levers. The GT is the exact same brake as the Yokozuna Ultimo.
I bought a Kona Rove DL last August (2022) and I really enjoy it.
Beautiful mate!🙌
Thanks!

Pretty pretty sweet Sutra!!!
Thanks!
Lovely frame.
It really is !
Sweet build! Was surprised that a 29X2.2 fit!
Thanks Ron and with room to spare!
I thought the Kona Sutra was a 29er at least that's what I found when my dad was looking at buying one...

What was that milk looking fluid you poured in the tires?
That was tubeless sealant to run the tires without tubes, it plugs punctures or air leaks.
Love your framset! There is a way to get Kona Sutra framesets brand new online?
Thanks! Unfortunately they stopped selling the frameset only for the Sutra, they only offer the Sutra Ltd as a frameset.
Weight?
Are the forks tapered?
Hey, no this has a straight steerer tube. The new Ltd has a tapered steerer.
Do you think the regular Kona sutra can fit 29 x 2.0 tires with fenders (maybe 60mm fenders)? Or will the front derailleur be in the way?
I doubt you could run both fenders and a front derailleur on 2.0 but I could be wrong, at 2.2 I don't have clearance for fenders on a 1x set up.
No you cannot with front Derrie( max is 43mm tire with fender )

@@MaverickTube So, the JUIN GT offer better stopping power? Thanks for the info! Look foward to see more great videos. Great content.
@@hectorortega5 The GT offers better braking power and modulation and so far the performance is on par with full hydraulic systems.
San nakaka bili ng ganyan frame and magkano SRP
The frame only goes for 700 $ but usually sells out every year, you will have to check on kona's website to see the distributers in your area.
@@MaverickTube appreciate the response 😊
