I thought some Medtner songs were pretty familiar with me by now but these Fairytales sound different in a great way. I love Shishkin's brilliant interpretations and I deeply appreciate his performances. I'd love to listen to your performance in Korea soon again. It was really tough to get a ticket last time.
That sounded full of expression...I never heard this piece before but I like it. ...and I know both Rachmaninoff and Horowitz liked Medtner from an interview I heard...Horowitz recalled when he met Rachmaninoff at Steinways..Rachmaninoff was playing this piece.

The voicing and counterpoint melodic lines are so beautifully brought out giving an extra relief to the texture. So sensitively and poignantly played… bravo young man. 😢

I find the first one to be awfully too agogically free, it's just shouldn't be soo rubato-ish in my opinion. I find a mix between this and Berezovsky the best. Tonally it's incredibly interesting tho. It doesn't "feel" to slow, but I think it still isn't totally what Medtner intended with the piece.
