In this video I want to show you how to handle clipped highlights in Raw Therapee, and what highlight recovery is, what it can do, and what it can't do.
We will look at the various highlight recovery modes: Luminance Recovery, CIE Lab Blend, Blend, and the most generally useful one Colour Propagation. And that strange Pink Out Of Range overlay, and why NOT to check the 'Clip Out of Gamut Colours' option.
But first, we head to Photoshop to see exactly what is highlight recovery, and why we get highlight clipping in the first place. Then we briefly head to Lightroom to show the good and bad things about it's - very limited - highlight recovery functionality.
