    Taru Rinne, mentioned ONCE while listing women who have participated and that's it? Please start doing justice to the interesting stories and people by examining further. This is a extremely low effort collage with nothing to say apart from "we mentioned women on international women's day, go like all our socials"
    *edit: removed wikipedia link to Taru Rinne*
    Anyway here's the interesting bit:
    "Despite her success on four wheels, Rinne decided to switch to motorcycles and debuted in the Road Racing World Championship, now known as MotoGP, in 1988. With her Honda bike she qualified second for the 125cc class GP at Hockenheim in 1989 and managed to lead the race for a while. She eventually finished seventh bettering her earlier eighth place at Assen. This was to remain her best ever result, as she got into a bad accident at Paul Ricard. While recovering from the accident, she got a letter from Bernie Ecclestone, who at the time decided which riders are allowed to compete in the series. The letter said that she is not qualified to compete next season. This ended her career at top-level and Rinne later said that the letter was the biggest disappointment of her life."
    Bernie blocking a woman who could actually race with the men. Probably set back female racing a good decade or two with that letter. Top bloke.

      Women’s categories exist so that women will participate. If women competed with men in most sports there would be zero women near the top and no women would participate. In racing they’re roughly evenly matched since your absolute athletic ability is less relevant. Educate yourself.

    Woman need there own MotoGP category, something for young girls to aspire to. My greatest passion is motorbike riding. But there was never and still isn't this opportunity to compete soley against other girls, locally or internationally. Just like we have womens tennis, cricket, football, basketball etc etc. Had that opportunity been there, i would definately have wanted to pursue it. Don't let any more girls miss out on dreaming big with motorbike racing. Create the stage for them,, and it will be just as popular for people to watch. Dreams will be witnessed, and achieved, and our passion for the love of motorbike racing will also get to shine. Thankyou 🤗

      @@stedibear How? Not attacking, I'm just curious

    • @stedibear
      @stedibear 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ksask2675 Well, there is less money circulating within the organizations of motorcycle racing as opposed to the money circulating within four-wheeled racing. And while the numbers might be smaller, every rider still brings in money to the teams through their personal sponsors. Some more than others (even Marquez needed hundreds of thousands to get to the point where his talent and desirability from a team perspective outweighed any financials he brought with him), some so much that you could call it buying a seat (Karel Abraham comes to mind). I don't see a difference in frequency of how many F1 drivers are or aren't there on the basis of their sponsors or rich parents, just the sums are different due to the vast difference in running costs between a F1 team and a MotoGP team.
      But anyway, my point is that running a whole series is a lot closer in cost between the two-wheeled disciplines and the four-wheeled ones. The logistics are the same, track "rent" is still the same, but selling tickets to the venue and getting people to watch it puts two-wheeled racing at a disadvantage.
      I fully believe there will eventually be a female rider who can fight at the very top of the smaller bike classes in the world championships on the regular. Carasco and Herrera are good role models for young girls having doubts about their place in the sport. If we only had better equipment to document sports in the 1980s and 1990s we would have so many more role models and maybe we'd be much further along in the process.
      Motorcycling as much as we love it is still niche, and further fractions only take away from it (see how MotoE is doing). I rather we learn to be genuinely inclusive, and give the few girls who feel like they don't belong the same peace to work on their craft as we do the boys. Ask Carasco or Herrera and I'm sure they'll say it's great for up and coming girls to have their own league etc, but ask them if they'd like to race in it and I'm quite sure that their aspirations are higher than that.
      I'm just afraid that these W series etc leagues aren't seen as GP2/GP3/RedBull Rookies/Asia Talent Cup -equivalents, but instead as the end-point of all women in the sport. That's what worries me. The money and sponsors spent running a series and the teams should be instead used to support the riders directly, instead of trying to turn them into profitable entertainment.
      I know, long rant, can't help it.

    • @ksask2675
      @ksask2675 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
