31-12 for shots, Casey making people quiet!
Big facts 🎉
meh!...Nucks dominated game 2 with waves of shots vs the Preds but no fruit. 31-12 doesn't seem to mean much this series
Not only that, Canucks blocked 28 shots to the Preds 11.
That means the attempted shots were even more lopsided, 59-23!!
@@September2004 Wow that's crazy. Only playing in one zone.
Expected goals for this game were just 2.3 to 2.0 (slightly in favor of Nashville), so a lot of their shots must have been fluff / low percentage chances.
Desmith was actually calm this game.
That makes a huge difference~
He was calm last game, those goals aren't on him

Nah. DeSmith is an emotional player.
Usually he is playing NWHL hockey. Today he was playing NHL.

DeSmith the DeFender! Absolutely monster game from him, incredible saves. He has the skills from Demko!

Turnabout is fair play. The Canucks did to Nashville what Nashville did to the Canucks last game.
Yup this was just Tuesdays game but the roles were switched
Lol... we "rope-a-doped" them.
I was told that Casey DeSmith wasn't an NHL caliber goaltender in the previous game. Figured that the Canucks can still be a threat without Thatcher Demko.
Every single goaltender in the NHL playoffs are NHL caliber goaltenders. It is just absolute nonsense.

DeSmith just needed a warmup game to get him going lol.
Desmith looked calm and collected in this game. He seems to do well in away games. Keep this up my guy! You stole this game tonight.

They probably have the best goalie coach in the league and nobody ever talks about him. Ian Clarke definitely did some work with Casey yesterday.

And so glad to finally see Boeser and Miller each get a goal in the playoffs.
Go Canucks Go
One shot, one goal, four shots, two goals.
DeSmith performance remained me the one against Rangers at the end of the regular season - outstanding.
desmith shutting down those haters like Nashville offence today
This DeSmith Guy Might Be A Problem...Casey DeSmith made some spectacular saves tonight as the Canucks win & take back home ice advantage... LET'S GO!!
It was clearly evident the Canucks decided not to go all out attack this game, as the last time they did, they couldn't beat Saros. So they decided to do the smart thing and focus on their defence. And it worked a treat, albeit Smithy stole the show once again. It's like the guy eats negativity for breakfast!
They decided to focus on their defence and give up 31 shots? There was tons of chances that could have gone in for Nashville . Canucks got the benefit of variance this game, just like Nashville got it last game
@@ThatBigCactusyeah this game was basically Tuesdays but the roles were switched and today there was more penalties
@@ThatBigCactuswatch the highlights again. 95% of the shots were from bad locations and with clear line of sight for desmith.
@@maxwelljeremy5659 I watched the whole game. If you think 29.5 out of the 31 shots were from bad locations you're the one that needs to rewatch. Yes they took perimeter shots, but they had their chances in tight, some near misses or just barely getting checked. Nashville played slightly better today. Canucks played WAY better last game. Variance.

Holy Smith, goal tending was on point tonight!
Desmith was a beast tonight whoo!!!
As opposed to last game, this time it was the Predators with all the shots and the Canucks capitalizing on their chances.
They switched roles
and I told a friend in text messages if the Preds keep blocking shots like they think they're playing no skater and 6 goalies, but 5/6 of the goalies don't have the full goalie gear on, and the canucks keep hititng, a Pred will go down with an injury, and sure enough, down went Statsney in the 2nd. I don't know what exactly hurt him, but taking 90+ MPH shots without the goalie pads can't have helped.
@@Seriously_Unserious I think Stastney left because of a hard hit because that’s also when a Canuck got penalized for boarding
@@Cheyennemae.A He left some time after that hit, though that may have been what triggered the injury, but hard hitting is part of physically wearing them down. whether it's being hit by a 90+mph slapper, or a big dude making big hits. Also, Stastney also turned his back into the hit, which is an incredibly bad habit to have. By the time Joshua realized Stastney had done that, he was already committed to the hit and the best he could do is not go full weight in, which it didn't look like he did. I've never seen Joshua be a dirty player that headhunts. He just plays hard and dishes out clean hits, though sometimes he botches a hit or a guy does something dumb who doesn't know how to properly take a hit.
@@Seriously_Unserious yeah I didn’t think it was necessary dirty but it is what triggered Stastneys injury he has now. He did get back on the ice for a few shifts after the hit but he must have been in pain.
It doesn't always have to be pretty. Canucks played solid defensively and DeSmith was a brick wall in net. Kudos to the powerplay breaking through.
Wining ugly is definitely the road to playoff success.
A wins a win in the playoffs
Okay, for this game we needed: the power play to work - DONE - 2 GOALS; the stars to show up: DONE: Miller 2 pts, Hughes 2 pts, Pettersson 1 pt; good goaltending: DONE - DeSmith with a .967 save percentage!
You forgot Boesser 1 goal. Joshua with all those blocked shots and hits, and Zedorov with his endless littany of big hits, and how about Myres and Cole helping out DeSmith with critical blue paint clears!
Perhaps DeSmith’s finest performance in the NHL
Nashville's offense makes any career backup look like an elite starter

What a series?….. this game absolutely of the hook!.. so exciting!
honestly think all the noise fans make in Rogers Arena unsettles some players, esp those without playoff experience. Preds arena was relatively quiet.
lmao typical canucks fans throwing their goalie off a cliff 2 days ago now he's a God to them today !
Yes no kidding, kunuckleheads don’t need anyone but their own fans to trash them 😂 sometimes even after a win🤷♂️. lol
in Vancouver, goaltending is the highest prioritized role while other teams in the NHL focuses on offense or defense. It's always been like this in Vancouver, the way they play hockey is "who needs a good offense or defense when you can find a good goalie who can make 30-40 saves per game". At least this year, Canuck's offense and defense stepped up.
A highly coveted and scrutinized position in Vancouver, sorry.
@@MrSupahLMFAO is this why they've never won a cup since they came into the league 54 years ago?

The fact that my Canucks dominated this game without even having the best goaltender in the world available is a testament to their depth. That’s why I am proud they’ll be representing my country in the Finals. Hail the Canucks, Canada’s Team!
That's a little over-optimistic. Preds almost had twice as many shots on goal.

All Hail desmith! you know who else? Myers played pretty great
Jeez , there’s been lots of criticism of Myers this season, but I’ve always said, you gotta trust the coach, and Desmith has played like an NHL goalie all season,
Yeah, glad the Tyler Myres Benning signed him up to be finally showed up under Tocchett. Took a few years, but the Chaos Giraffe has arrived.
I was one of the myers haters all reg season but the dude has been key this playoffs. I eat my words
@@windowsxp9120 I've been a consistent critic of Myres myself, though not to the unreasonable degree some to. My main complaint before last season and his not even fit for AHL outing with OEL was that he would be fine if he were paid between $2-3 mil a season in cap hit. That OEL pairing though, that was apocalyptically bad! Statistically the worst defense pairing in the NHL in the 2022-2023 season.
The Tocchett system seems to be agreeing with Myres as he's gotten his play in alignment with it.

Game 3 over game 4 on. Let's go Canucks keep it quiet in Nashville
Why are we not showing Zadorov's hits? We glorify boring plays where literally nothing happens, but we don't show highlights of huge hits?
Nowadays it's more important to show the useless show monkey fights instead of proper tackless. It's literally insane.
Zadorov is fine hitmen
it's culturally inappropriate, they might hurt someone's feelings by showing such horrific violence 🤣
Vancouver is brutal on defense. Damn. They jam up every part of the ice.
Casey the man! Go Canucks 😊
Wish sportsnet would produce full recap with the hits, penalties, missed calls, some scrums, or anything that shows the game within the game. The Dakota penalty was a huge moment in the game. Miller hit, zadorov hit on Josi, Cole blocked shot with his helmet, and much more.

So close to a shutout. Defensive lapses are magnified
Damn, ive never seen a goalie be this calm before fr. Im an oilers fan btw.

That was stressful. Good game for Miller and Big Z, and awesome to see Casey play a solid game allowing just one goal and earning a .967 SP.
Come on Preds, let’s go! Shake it off and let’s get them next game.
a lot of great efforts ..but Cole And Casey were the men tonite
and even Tyler Myres seems to have finally arrived. Wish we'd seen this Tyler Myres 4 years ago. and Zedorov and Soucey were also on fire too. and Joshua with more big hits and big blocks again!
@Seriously_Unserious 4 years ago we were bad and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. He is playing well when it counts.
Winning a game with 12 shots is the most Canucks thing this season.

I'm a VGK fan and I was rooting for the Nucks in this one. But damn DeSmith kinda makes you not want to face them down the road lol.
and just think -- he's the BACKUP! If you face us, it'll probably be in a later round and Demko may be back by then. I'm pretty sure guys like Stone are still having nightmares of getting stoned by Demko as bad as they were in the Bubble Playoffs.

Petty was invisible again, but at least he didn't cost any goals against. His parents were watching too. I guess nothing's going to get him going then. Thank god for JT and DeSmith.
How's getting an assist, blocking several key shots and dishing out a couple of big hits "invisible?" I'm beginning to think he could score 6 goals, get 4 assists and break a record for points in a single game and you'd still be saying "he's invisible!" He did was he had to to help his team win, that's all that matters.

How convenient you mentioned only the secondary assist? Petey does more than score goals and setting up nice play. He is known for his defensive plays too. By the way his play and shots tonight has more purpose in it. If we are seeing those from Petey then he is close to breakthrough.
@@Seriously_Unserious What?
Solid plays from our boys, they definitely played hard and you can sense they wanted this. I’m still not seeing Petey doing their thing and that 2 on 1 with Högz and Mikheyev, man that would have been a sweet looking combo, both of them have the patients and the puck handling skills this team needs, but it didn’t go in this time around. Usually with that much time with the puck and no other surrounding players it’s a sure goal. Time now to forget about todays game and prepare for Game 4.

A huge shout out to Desmith on his excellent goaltending performance, reload, refocus on to the next game, go Vancouver.
Wow De Smith !
Weird game. Overall the Canucks did a pretty good job controlling the play later in the game. A lot of the Preds third period was spent on the outsides. But there were a few brain farts that led to too many decent scoring chances. At least this year's team seems to recover from their brain farts and get the clear without a fire drill but this team has been so good about NOT having them in the first place, a game like this is kind of frustrating.
Still, I think they were a little too passive in the third and got away from pressuring more. Game 1 they did a better job keeping the pressure on.
I think Petey and Hogs are pretty close to a breakthrough. Game 4 hopefully.
I think the Canucks are in pretty good shape. If they can win a game like that then it bodes well for when they clean up some of the slop. They really need to focus coming out for game 4 and try to bury this Preds team. I think losing game 4 probably kills the Pred's spirit.
I am hoping for Petey and Hughes.
In Casey We Trust - DeSmith de goalie !

@@tcmanchan You might want to try READING what I said. Maybe tell me where exactly I said Casey was bad? Or maybe you don't know what the word "solid" means in reference to goaltending?
Solid means the goalie was good and made good saves when needed.
despite 12 shots, a win is a win, best game played game played by Vancouver!
they actually got way more then that. Watched all the games and the Canucks shots on goal stat is really selling them short as they're really getting at least double what that stat says. Problem is it doesn't count whatever hits the Skater meatwall. Though that strategy against a team with as many players as the canucks have that can wire hard and heavy shots is not a good plan. They've already lost 1 defenseman, and how many more will it cost them? Even if not missing games, but just getting to bruised and worn down they can't be effective anymore is enough to get smoked once you lose that step.
DeSmith is locked in play
Let's go boys!!
Looks like DeSmith heard what people have been saying and got tired of it, lol.
Nashville is giving the Canucks a tough challenge. Casey Desmith was easily the #1 star -- but can he keep going like this?
DeSmith carried so hard wow whatta beast
A goalie going God mode at the right time is exactly what we need and It also shows how scoring on the Powerplay is super important. Nashville should be embarassed about Losing a game where your Opposition puts only 12 pucks on the net.
😂😂😂 yes not always a recipe for success though
Casey the iceman!
Cold as f..k
that nashville goal - you can clearly see the nashville players skates hits DeSmith'
s skate in the crease when he was trying to square up to the shot. coulda been a shutout
Casey was excellent. looked way more confident calm and composed in the net compared to Shakey game 2. I'm sure Ian Clark had something to do with preparing him for this game knowing he's the guy moving forward. my confidence in him is fully restore, other then that the Cancuks 12 shot wernt a concern and were defensively sound and put on a clinic tonight. Go Canucks!
those shot totals for the Canucks are deceptive. They're TAKING way more shots then the shot counter indicates. But a flaw in the shots on goal system means 50 or 60% or more of Canuck shots don't register. You can have a shot be "on goal" up to the goal line, but if ANYONE other then the goalie gets in the way, it's not counted as a shot on goal, even though it blatantly was. That's a problem as it gives a false impression of the flow of the game. IMO shots on goal should be goals, plus goalie saves, plus blocked shots, as a shot stopped by a skater is every bit as much "on goal" as a shot that went in or a shot the goalie blocked. If you were to count the blocked shots, the Canucks would have had mid 20s to nearly 30 shots on goal. They were buzzing in a way these highlights and the shot counter does not reflect. At least until the 3rd period when they focused on a defensive shell and just trapping the preds.
I really wish we stayed pat at the trade deadline, and kept the Lotto line together and rolling. I just dont have the same feeling of anticipation that i had before the deadline.
Since coming back from his injury, Lindholm's become a money in the bank player for what we need him for, better then Kuzmenko could ever do in a system he just couldn't fit in with, though he really, really did try. That extra size, skill, and 2 way play Lindholm gives us is making a huge difference in these playoffs so far, and allows us to put Bleuger on the 4th line, where he's a much better fit at this stage in his career, as good as he was on the Life Line. Lindholm as the Life Line centre is a huge upgrade on Bleuger, meaning no disrespect for our favorite Teddy bear!
