- In today’s video we install the turbosmart 50/50 blow off valve. It performs great compared to the troublesome forge valve I experienced. Enjoy!

Great video! Just wanted to let you and your viewers know that the valves are all lubricated before being assembled so there is no need to open and oil or grease the valve. (Thicker oil and grease can actually harm performance). The Dual Port Valve does come with a stiffer spring based off of the general vacuum level we'd often see these engines producing. This is why at low to mid boost range you won't hear a prominent "blow off." This is simply because there is not enough pressure in the charge pipes to push the valve open at those boost levels however, at full boost you will get that audible release.
Thank you guys. And super awesome for the answer! You’re absolutely right! I didn’t realize how stiff the spring actually was till the valve was turned all the way soft and still didn’t have an audible blow off BUT the performance is incredible I must say. I didn’t realize how well the car was going to run. This is a great product. Are there any softer spring options if I decide to change it up?
@@DArias Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, there are two softer options available. In this instance you have the stiffest spring (Pink) and the next step down would be the Green spring (TS-0203-3003).
I purchased the Kompact Shortie Plumb Back Mini R56, will this make a discharge noise or no?
@@javiermontoya3179 The Plumback is a direct replacement for the factory / OE valve so won't make a discharge noise, no :-)
ABSOLUTELY loved their BPV on my Subaru Forester XT Sports! After spinning a PnP'd TD04 pretty hard, the stock BPV was leaking. Since Subaru is a Non-VTA/Full Recirculation turbo system, didn't buy a Turbosmart for that reason. It was absolutely rock stable on the Dyno, where it was holding 17.5 psi! Gave better throttle response and earlier turbo spool to boot! Now looking at purchasing a Mini- looks like I need to get another Turbosmart.
I like the mini content man, you are a natural at this, keep doing what you do!
These valves perform so good so you're going to love it man no worries
I can tell already!
Glad to see the mini out again. I have the Forge valve with AEM air intake and it sounds great! Also, I thought you replaced the cooler tank? I remember because I've been wanting to change mine ever since I watched your video. Like always keep the good work. Keep inspiring people like me. 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
It’s there , but you have such a loud exhaust that you can’t hear it. I could no longer hear my supercharger whine when I straightpiped my r53. Also turbosmart is quality, I had it on my Veloster Turbo helped fix my boost surging
You’re right about that! I guess I was so used to how loud the forge valve was that I was underwhelmed with the turbosmart BUT the turbosmart valve performs sooooooo much better tbh.
Great video man and the performance on this is much better
Thank you! And yes agreed haha
I’m buying my first mini tomorrow bro your an inspiration
Nice! What kind of mini are you getting ?
Diego Arias 02 Mini Cooper s
what Cooper are you getting?
Congrats! The R53s are super fun and you can beat a supercharge whine out of a 4 cylinder! Haha
@@DArias plus they pop and bang from factory
Great video man !
Thank you!
Gotta love it man!
Absolutely! Haha
I just bought my r56 for 6k with 66k miles what a steal 👏 👌 love watching gonna upgrade mine in no time
2011 if ya wanted to know
That’s a crazy steal haha.. really good deal you got man! What are your plans with it overall?
Not sure yet i think I wanna keep it stock for the most part, maybe do like the intake and intercooler
The spring is pretty stiff in these valves but overall the turbosmart 50/50 is a nice combination of good sounds and performance haha. Give it a chance don’t worry
Yes I noticed! The spring does feel stiff but in a way I can tell the car drives much better and it feels way more solid than it did before so I can’t complain
What would you recommend for my F55 Mini Cooper S first MOD? I was thinking Air Intake? Kind of looking for some sound that would be awesome when I shift my gears (MANUAL)!!! AWESOME VIDEO!
Thank you! And an intake is absolutely a good place to start. The intake will give you much more induction and turbo “whoosh” when letting off the throttle
It’s hard to beat the sound of the forge valve. Luckily I haven’t had an issue with mine over the past year. Yes it needs some re lubing kinda often but I can’t switch it out because of the addicting sound haha
The forge valve sounds great haha. I’m just glad the hear is running much better now
I've had a forge BOV fitted for 2+ years now, constantly gets stuck open forcing the car into limp mode. Rebuild it 4 or 5 times, constant issues... sounds great tho...
I got the compact bov turbo smart and for some reason it is not making any noise please help. I double checked my work and I did everything right but only hear a little bit of noise not much. Turbo is good and everything is plugged in. Please help
Can you get different spring rates for it ? I have the Alta spring in my stock diverter valve . Do you get less turbo lag with this valve ? My car has the N 18 engine .Thanks
The turbosmart valve is great man. The cars run amazing. You are right about there being no excess “whoosh” sound but since it is a 50/50 it’s hard to get the sound you want. I say good performance over noise
Look I totally agree with that. I guess I just expected more noise from it but at high rpms it does blow off more like a “sneeze” sound lol but the car runs better. It ran okay with the forge valve but it seemed to be too much maintenance
Yo quick question. I got the forge bov couple weeks ago after watching ur vid. I also bought the ultra gauge after watching your last video lol. So I’ve been reading on the forums that the stock r56s are making 12-15psi boost. The boost reading I’m getting is only 7.5psi with the yellow spring. I swapped springs to the blue one and I’m making 9si now. The car feels really nice and pulls soooo much better in all gears. It feels like a high hp car. 9psi is safe right? I’m just worried because the car feels so diff with the blue spring and 9psi that I might damage something. Let me know. Thanks!
You’re fine man! 9 psi is nothing you’ll be A okay haha and tbh 12-15 psi sound a bit high for stock boost pressure. I remember before my tune my car made about 10-11 psi and sometimes would spike to 12-13 but after the tune my car is between 20-21 psi and it’s been this way for over 2 years now with no issues. Don’t worry and have fun! Haha
Does the car pull harder with the forge BOV blue spring to stock?
I just got a 2010 Mini cooper S N14 and everything in the motor is stock...I just have an upgraded clutch/fly wheel/ pressure plate with a borla cat back, what is the best blow off valve that is moderately priced and can give me the sound I'm looking for!?
Thanks for your videos and instructions...
Forge sound purposes only the forge BOV will be the best bang for your buck but if you want performance and a valve that needs little to no maintenance then the turbosmart is great but doesn’t offer the same “psshhhhh” sound you may be looking for
I've heard the Forge Valves could be hit or miss. One buddy has one on his JCW with no issues but another buddy of mine switch to the GFB one because his Forge one kept having issues with the solenoid. They sound so good though but I feel you won't have issues with Turbosmart so consider it an upgrade!
I hope so! I do miss the forge flutter badly though but that’s okay as long as the car runs well
Great video, but I bought the blowoff valve from your Amazon link and after installing it I discovered you linked the shorty full recirculating valve, not the 50/50 in this video! I’m bummed as I cut the vac line for better fitment and can’t return. Basically threw $185 out the window, maybe fix the link so others won’t make the same mistake I did
As long as it runs better that’s all that matters
Tons better haha
I know it's a lil late to ask, but what wheels and sizes are you running? Just recently bought a 2010 R56
These are mtechnica aero wheels. They’re 17x9 et20 all around with a 205/40/17 tire
Did you ever figure out how to get more flutter ? Have the same problem
Hello mate did you have any problems after installing this to the car? Throwing cel lights going into limp mode? I've been reading on some forums that they can cause problems?
I never had any issues at all.. tbh the car ran much better after the install.. def stays in boost better etc.. as long as it is installed properly and everything tightened correctly I’m sure you’ll have it easy going!
@@DArias cheers bro I've been looking at the newer ones Kompact EM BOV VR10 Dual Port.... There literally plug n play with no adapter, hoses.. Thanks for the information
Had mine for awhile not and all i do is move the inlet pipe and twist the bov to softer when i want the sound in low rpms
Yeah I have it pretty soft right now actually and it still isn’t what I expected but at the end of the day it is a 50/50 valve and not full atmospheric so I gotta deal with it haha
@@DArias yeah i was used the the hks ssqbov sound in my other cars and was hoping for that but i like this one, i did oil it up from time to time just in case
Yeah def I guess that’s where I got a bit like thrown off I was expecting more noise.. not as much as the forge but def a little more but overall the car runs much better right now than it did before
The turbosmart valve comes with a really stiff spring so you won’t get much sound out of it unless you’re in high rpms. See if maybe you can possibly get a softer spring more to your liking
Yeah I’ll have to see I have the valve at a soft setting right now but still isn’t my cup of tea. But hell the car runs great so I’m happy about it
I know this video is old but did you ever find out to set the bib on soft or hard to get that flutter sound
Softer setting it blows off louder.. the spring is so stiff regardless compared to the forge one that it caught me off guard since the forge valve blows off at such low rpm..this one will give you a blow off at like 4kish rpm
Would that be the same for the turbo smart one too
Thanks for your input. By the way any new videos
So the same problems you had with the forge but the turbo smart has been problem free?
Turbosmart isn’t as loud but def a better unit. The forge isn’t awful just the piston needs to be lubed up all the time to keep it working well
do you think this will also fit on a 2014 mini countryman s all4? i just bought this mini and im looking for a BOV
It fits I ran it on mine
That is my problem. The valve doesn’t open at all. I’ve tried everything and eventually just gave up. All o get it turbo flutter from the air pushing back through the turbo because it’s not venting at all. At peak boost there just a ever so slight tss noise.
I’ve also tried two different Springs
Really?? You had the valve at it’s softest setting?
@@DArias yes each time I’d try at the softest setting I could. Nothing changed. When I had the softest spring installed it felt like I wasn’t building boost properly. I’m not sure if my valve is just defective or what. But I have literally triple check every aspect of my setup and haven’t found a solution. I’m waiting to here back from turbosmart for even more assistance and maybe a solution. I’ve contacted them before as well with no solution.
Where did you get the digital gauge in your mini
It’s from ultra-gauge.com !
I have a 07 r56 witha intake only would this still work on my car
Absolutely it would.. makes a huge difference tbh .. you would absolutely benefit more though with a tune and more bolt ons.. the factory DV is sufficient for stock boost levels
How did you open the hood this much ?
That’s just the stock amount to open the hood at least for my car
How many miles are on your Cooper?
63k miles
Oh wow she’s a baby. I got 110k on you lol
Is you go to Evan Shanks’ video cops caught is drifting at 8:15 is that you? It was H2O 2017
Good eye lol that is me yes 😂
Dude, you need to upgrade on a booster chair for yourself!
Might have to lol.
first!
Woo! 😁
@@DArias haha where you from man who m building a mini myself atm
@@DArias my new setup going on this winter has a external tial bov different turbski
Ooooo nice man! That’s gonna sound mean and I’m from jersey haha
