I don't know what is your risk capacity and risk torelence . However I try to answer your question in general .
Please find the last 1 year ROI ( return on investment ) % of different asset classes in India .
1. Equity ( Sensex ) - 52.66 % ( Your 100000 INR investment would have fetched you 152000 INR )
2. Cash ( i.e Liquid Fund ) - 3.14 % ( 100000 INR investment would become 103014 INR )
3. Gold - ( -8.08 % ) ( If you would have invested in gold , your 100000 INR would have become 91920 INR )
4. FD - 4.9 % ( In FD , you would have got 104900 INR )
Based on your risk capacity and risk torelence you can take a decision . I hope I answered your query :)

You may go to bank with these details to claim,
1) Claim Form-This is nothing but a letter to Bank stating that the depositor died and you are being a nominee, claiming the deposit. The format will be available with the Bank.
2) Death Certificate-You have to produce the death certificate issued by local authorities.
3) Proof of Address and Photo ID-You have to produce the address proof and photo identity of the nominee or the survivor.

Which Bank ? Generally , after maturity, principal along with interest will be credited to your saving account automatically . Its again depending on your FD maturity instructions.

Which bank ? Please contact bank for more details .. FD rates were some where 6 to 7 % in 2005 .
