      Tripping. NIH core is cheap as shit, can double up with combiners to the blocker and split the overflow / underflow line in half to charge 2 large batteries and have 2 series large batteries worth of constant power for your decent sized setups, so 5 hours of 198 ish power, automatically will work against its 5 hours with the underflow as well using NIH, COULD even last 6 to 8 hours that way.

    My base has over 300 power all time. I have like 200 to play with. Just split your charging sources to 3 batteries with a splitter then combine them with root combiners and then u have 300-400 power continuous.

    • @JohnWillikers
      @JohnWillikers  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yeah but your still only getting about 80 percent efficiency. So since your pulling the power and sending it to your circuits before the efficieny lose your not losing any power. I forgot to mention this in the video.

    First of all let me say this: This is a cool circuit.
    However, in rust decentralized circuits are way more important than efficiency. It is not that hard to build your windmill one or two story higher, but if your nih core gets hit than your whole electric system shuts down (which is worse than inefficency). So in my opinion, you don't want to run your whole electric system the have only a main powerline, but instead you want multiple small circuits (preferably simple circuits, so you can fit them alongside the batteries, since if the batter gets hit, then the circuit is gone anyway).
    With that said, I would be interested in a simple circuit which would allow me to run a turrent on multiple batteries (if one battery gets destroyed, an other one would take its place, so you can say "backup circuit"). Simplicity is important in this case since the best would be, if I could power every turret from multiple sources individually without any central "power distribution unit". (So the circuit cannot be complicated or else it would consume a lot of power). So I trying to figure out a decentralized redudant system. Do you have any idea?

    • @AsmundHenr
      @AsmundHenr 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could just put the windmill power straight into your circuits and have very little charging lets say three batteries. You then block the power from batteries so it doesnt get used and use a or switch to decide if the backup power from the batteries get used

    Your probably getting tired of my long winded comments. However, something worth mentioning the next time you speak about the nih core or the c bus that I noticed last night while tinkering with them is that when the or switch flops it temporarily disrupts power flow which resets or deactives timer switches. This makes the nih core unusable for something like an automated farm base. The c bus can be worked around by putting any timer circuits before it in the spine. Again I play on console so maybe it's different for me. I promise I'm done with the comments now. At least for this video lol

    • @JohnWillikers
      @JohnWillikers  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No the Nih Core does that. The solution is to add some blockers between the memory cell and Top OR Switch. This keeps the power running for a couple ticks while is switches over. It explains this some more in the handbook under the Nih Core.
      And no it's fine! I don't mind the comments!! Its nice to see them come in and be able to respond to them!

    • @rizmatik2481
      @rizmatik2481 ปีที่แล้ว

      I need to read these handbooks that you keep talking about lol. Thanks, I would have never thought of blockers as a solution. I'm gonna try that out today. It would be great to apply it to my farm base.

  • @Death-Tokes
    @Death-Tokes 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yoo so I made s back up system to the back up system connected to the nih core I have it to where the system upon being destroyed the back up batteries will be activated but say u end up using to much power without knowing I then use the small generators to then recharge the batteries on a timer for 32 sec it then puts up to 80 extra units plus whatever else is ur main power source so overloading the battery back to charge and reseting your time u need to fix what might be wrong with the electric!!
    Edit: this is all automated as well!!

    Whats the benefit of this circuit vs just the blocker branch and OR switch? What does the memory cell do for you.

    • @JohnWillikers
      @JohnWillikers  ปีที่แล้ว

      That circuit no longer works since batters charge and discharge at the same time. That the old OR/Blocker switch which no longer works. Refer to the electrician handbook.

  • @rizmatik2481
    @rizmatik2481 ปีที่แล้ว

    i have a question that maybe you can answer. First of all i play on console (yuck i know) so idk if the mechanics are different but i do know that the solar mechanics have changed. Before, all i had to do was aim my panels at the center of the map to get the most out of it. Now apparently its gotten way more complicated and im a bit confused. the most commen and credible info ive gotten so far is that a single panel should be facing north and otherwise you should set them in clusters of 2, 1 facing NE and 1 SW. assuming that you dont want to constantly adjust them according to this "rust calander". Is this true?

    • @JohnWillikers
      @JohnWillikers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay so I did some brief research into console rust electricity. It seems as if it is the same as PC Rust. Following PC Rust I tend to just put my Solar Panels facing North always. This always tend to give me the 20 rW needed.
      But I play weekly servers so I never have had to adjust my panels with the sun. I would recommend on on Wipe run panels. And before the 7 day mark try to get windmill. So then your not really worrying about Solar Panel for rW generation. It's more for turning your auto lights on and off ( At least in my case ).
      There is an electricians handbook that goes really into depth about it. It says it's updated for 2022, but SwiftCoyote is very active and constantly works on the handbook.

      @rizmatik2481 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reference. I was more intrigued than concerned. We are usually running turbines by day three the latest. But it's good info to have. I like to experiment with high efficiency, compact solo bases that are low key. Theirs nothing low key about a turbine lol. If you ever care to experiment, I've found that a NE/SW cluster does seem to give me more consistent power throughout the day than 2 facing directly north. But I haven't done any serious testing. It's more of an observation. But thanks again for the info.

    • @JohnWillikers
      @JohnWillikers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You most definitely can. The reason is that the Nih Core is meant to scale past two batteries. So I'm putting it there just so I don't have to later. I usually tend to hook up 2 or 4 batteries to my nih core

    What's the point of the memory cell? You can do the same thing with 2 branches, a blocker, and an OR switch. Unless that memory cell is doing something else?

    • @JohnWillikers
      @JohnWillikers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a more efficient way to bypass the battery so cut out the 20% tax. The is more modern and takes advantage of a batteries ability to charge / discharge.

    • @givepassword
      @givepassword ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The blocker + OR switch doesn't charge batteries if your power generation falls below the threshold. If you're generating 50 power and your threshold is 100, both the Nih core and the blocker + OR switch circuits will switch to battery power. The difference is what happens to the electricity coming out of your electric generator (wind turbine, for example). The blocker + OR switch will send the wind turbine power AND battery power to a single OR switch. The OR switch selects the input with the highest power for passthrough, blocking the other input. In this case, allowing the battery power through and blocking the wind turbine power.
      The Nih core allows the wind turbine power to be "redirected" to a second OR switch that charges the batteries. Instead of blocking the wind turbine power at the singular OR switch, it sends the power to a second one that charges the battery.
      Basically:
      Blocker + OR:
      *TURBINE* ━99━> *OR SWITCH* *Mem. Cell* ━0━> *OR SWITCH*

    • @srm42069
      @srm42069 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@givepassword So essentialy in the blocker/OR setup, when power is switched to the battery the "live" power (solar/turbine) is wasted. In the Nih Core setup the "live" power is directed to charge the battery instead of wasted?

    • @givepassword
      @givepassword ปีที่แล้ว

      @@srm42069 Precisely. That's why it's preferred over the blocker + OR, as it can be almost 100% more efficient in some scenarios.

    I didn’t know it was called the NIH core until now, but it is absolutely shit. You are better off running all your power into the batteries and paying the tax. There are several reasons but it comes down to the “tax” being greater if you use it vs paying the tax.

    • @JohnWillikers
      @JohnWillikers  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I would agree if you're playing a modded server with increased electrical rates, but if you're not a zerg on vanilla servers, then it is important to cut your tax down. It could be the difference in how many wind mills you have to build.
      Sometimes just building a base that can handle 4 wind mills is a pain to build in small groups. And we like to do more then just turrets.
      We usually do sorting systems, elevators, auto crafters, etc. It never hurts to be efficient when you can.
