    Thank you for these milling tips. I have been hoping you would do more video's using the Smithy 1220 LTD. I purchased this unit about a year ago and have made your carriage stop set up and I'm currently installing the DRO's as you have done. As you have mentioned this combo unit does have its short comings as I have found out. I appreciate you doing these videos and hope you continue doing them. I'm not a machinist so I need all the help I can get. Thanks again. Dennis

    I have the grizzly g9729 lathe /mill combo which is almost identical to your machine , in fact the mill heads are exact ! I have the same problem with end play in the quill but all you have to do is use the quill lock just enough so you can still move the spindle down into your work and it will take all the play right out of it ! The set screw is only there so the quill wont turn , use the quill lock , just snug it so you can still move the quill down .

    I have the same exact machine. Your digital readouts are great. Where u live. Im gonna come steal them. 😁. Seriously though. Those are nice. My machine is 15 years old and run hard and put up dirty. Yours is nice and clean.

    I had to rebore my mill head and chrome plate the spindle quill to fit snug. Also replaced original bearings with needle bearings. Much better if you don't overload it.

    I was wondering Sir where you got your extension for the mill head. I looked on smithy's website but didn't see anything. I appreciate any info you can offer. Thanks!

    I have a 90s vintage 1220 XL
    I can not for the life of me get the taper cut out of the lathe.
    I feel like the gear head is out of whack on the bed.

      I hate videos like this. Yeah I used these parts and they were FUCKING GREAT! But I'm not going to say what part #, where I got them, or anything else. You're on you own fuckers!

    Why do these small mills have quills like a drill press? Why can't they be tight like the big mills... my enco has zero slop in its quill.

    • @user-ks5ff
      @user-ks5ff 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most small mills don't, most small mills don't even have a quill so they're completely rigid.
