Some say spoiled buttermilk also works. Usually for Bonsai soil. Moss looks so great in any use. Keeping it looking great month after month in the Aqaurium or year after year in the garden... is hard.

Beautiful tank! how is the maintenance for such kind of tank? Is it prone to algae? Thanks.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

very low maintenance because it's low light. Only 50% water change a week. No algae, no diatoms. Little trimming twice a year and regular filter cleaning.

Great work! question: How much amount of chopped moss and yogurt did you put when mixing? thanks!

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

I've used the (pruning) cutting form submerged Fissidens. But i think if you must it buy it's about 3x mesh 7x5cm
But that's the advantage of Yoghurt methode: you place out the small amount mosses on a big surface and you'll cover a lots on it.

Beautiful tank! I have this moss on driftwood growing for about 3 months now and finding lots of long green strands of hair (algae?) coming off it. I have to pull out as much as possible after every weekly water change otherwise it will get out of control. Are you or anyone else out there with this moss finding the same issue? It’s a beautiful looking moss when it’s thick and full but some part of me regrets getting it now because of this issue.

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

that's probably hair algae. Had it once in a tank.
I solved it by manually removing everything as much as possible and simply cutting away the damaged bits of moss. The 1st step I took was dimming the light. Then every day the recommended amount of liquid carbo dosed for 2 weeks. Each time, a piece of thread algae is pulled out of the container/from the plant with tweezers. After 2 weeks the tank was 100% algae-free again. Since I started the maintenance again in a disciplined way, the alga has never returned.
The addition of liquid carbo has a beneficial effect on the growth and development of my mosses and has proved to be an efficient remedy against algae. But an overdose will certainly have a very negative effect on mosses. in other words they simply wouldn't survive.

I started dry start yogurt method with ricardia chamidrifolia, and 6 days left.but from yesterday type of fungicide or something of white colour grow in this part of stone.what should I do ?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

First try to remove as much a possible, and blow with a straw careful some air on the remaining fungus. They hate it and will die.
      Don't keep it to wet.

im a fan of your work..its been 2 weeks since i try this method. Feels like my lights are producing so much heat. is it okay for the mosses? do they still thrive? Thanks in advance..

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don't think it's a problem. Be careful that it doesn't get too hot.
      Perhaps no warmer than 35 C/ 95 F. Don't burn the leafs

Another question. My tank is flooded right now but i think BGA or cyanobacs is on the way..how should i deal with it? Can u give me tips..thanks in advance

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@johnandrewbulabog4232 hard to tell because there are to many different causes. If there is blue-green algae, the NO3 value in the tank are usually insufficient.
So start with a lot of water changes, a lot and good maintenance. Suck the algae out of the water with a hose. Hope it helps

What is your fert regime and how do you avoid algae? Are your lights quite low? And how do you clean off any algae that does form on the rocks or fissidens? Would love to know your secret

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There ain't no secret.
To avoid algue I use low light, good maintenance, weekly water change approx 90%
and I keep the tank as clean as possible.
Ferts are 'lean dose' (25% 'Estimative Index')
      Here are my test results:
      ph-7.8 | KH-5.5 |GH-15 | NO2-0.1 | NO3-5 mg/l | PO4-2 mg/l
