If he leaves or gets traded BEFORE we win a SB...what are our odds then of winning the SB? Personally, last year was our best chance and this year is only slightly equal if we are able to keep BA! Otherwise, Steve was right! Our window will have closed and last year would have been our best chance with the best lineup we'll have put on a field in YEARS! and if we don't win the SB this year and thus, have to pay Brock next year, how many players you think we're keeping who are 'play makers' that we'll be able to afford to retain? We'll more than likely lose BA, unless we sign him THIS YEAR to a 2 or 3 year contract, but then we're going to lose Deebo more than likely and possibly George Kittle...or maybe we'll lose some valuable players on DEFENSE simply because we're having to pay Brock $$$! We've all heard he's got a pretty tight connection with BA but if he's gone, than what?
Steve is just being honest. 49ers will be lucky to make it to the NFC Champion game, much less win the super bowl. Trent is getting old. Kittle is good, but has lost a quarter step. Deebo is banged up and isn't catching as many balls. 9ers have no O Line except Trent. On defense, Armstead is gone and Hargrave is off in lala land and not getting any sacks. Kinlaw is just big and that's it. Cornerbacks are non-existant and are off with hargrave is no man's land playing hop-scotch for cupie-doll prizes. Playoffs? Yes, but 49ers will lose in the playoffs. Steve Young is right as usual.
I agree Young, our BEST chance was last year. However the window is NOT closed, but significanlty smaller. Schedules gonna hurt this year but im here for it. Similar arguments were made about the Ravens v Chiefs.
Steve is right that is going to be the 49ers best opportunity to win a Super Bowl in a long time. Just due to the nature of football we are do for an early exit, 4 NFCCGs and 2 blown Super Bowls leads is a crazy run. Also only 3 teams have won the Super Bowl the following year after losing.
Yeah it really did feel like it was the year they finally get it done , that’s what makes it more heartbreaking for us niners fan , it ain’t ever enough , but just gotta keep the hope for this season coming
I believe Steve Young nailed it. Last year should have been the year to do it and we missed it. Once Brock gets paid and if he is not willing to be a team oriented with his pay day then we will have a new team next time we win the Super Bowl because we will not be able to afford the the talent we have on our current roster much longer.
If the 49ers don't believe in him, they can trade him somewhere else and they can watch him succeed there. Nobody's saying this about Burrows, Allen or Herbert etc
With this current team, Yes. But you have a great coach that can Hella coach up offensive special skill players and great front office. And a wiser owner. I York learned fromKaepernick and that gm. He won't get in his teams way
@ryanjones875 wiser... he made some mistakes that destroyed an organization. Like kaepernick over Smith. But that's bound to happen. Bill Walsh was really pushing for Young over Montana in 88. And Montana never had a concussion that year. But you can't discount the work he did leading up to the 2011 season or since 2019 because of a few bad years. This team because of him is bowl or bust and it's because of him. Now he's knowing how to stay out of his own way and trust in the coach and gm that he hired. We niner fans will be spoiled for the years ahead. He basically job shadowed his uncle Eddie since he was of walking age. And I saw some real good things prior to 2011. Damn I wished that 2011 team was untouched. They only needed a decent receiver and they had one for the first 5 games of 2011.
SF needs to fix its O-Line. O-Line has kept Mahomes from getting more rings. It can deny any QB a ring. Under-reported aspect of the teams Montana and Young played on was how good their line play was during their SB runs.
Totally underrated by Young is Brock’s mobility/escapabilty-which he is just beginning to tap into. Very fast in short bursts-which gets him out of trouble and keeps the play alive.
I have total faith in Brock living up to expectations. Shanahan will get his SB. This is an interesting state change coming from Steve. Almost feels like what you were alluding too. Steve aligning himself with the others and feeling like there is some sort of challenge coming from Purdy to his status. Just initial impressions. Very weird comments from Steve.
He always said he was an elite processor but he kind of made it. Sounds like he doesn't throw very far and he's a checkdown artist, which was never true.
Kaepernick was good for about a season and a half until defenses remembered to play the run, and shut him down. Jimmy G succeeded for the most part, but would force about 2-3 throws every game. Purdy has unique processing and a calmness under pressure that hasn't been seen since Montana. Yes, I'm ranking him above Young, who was 5-5 his first year as the 49ers starter, after 8 years of professional football. The biggest determining factor going forward is the OL. Last year they were ranked 26th pass protection. Give Purdy time and he'll flourish.
until you look a little deeper at certain situations in which Brock isn't "elite"; which is in games where he's asked to pass more because either the run game isn't on par, or the defense is struggling to hold the other team from scoring and the 49ers fall behind. In games where Brock is asked/required to throw more, (30+ pass attempts) that's when he throws more INT's (9) and the teams overall odds of winning start dropping (2 & 3) vs games where everything is clicking, WR's are getting open and Brock is making fewer passes (less than 30 attempts per game), is when he really shines! In those situations, he's 10 & 1 and only has 2 INT's...
They did not miss their window! They still got the same great players and more!! Yes it was a good chance and we should have won, having said that, baring injuries, we going again and we will win!!
If the 49ers give Brock a big signing bonus so the overall contract is big, but the actual cap number is tolerable, thats the way to go for everyone. Maybe his annual rate is 50m, but the actually cap hit is like 35 or something because of the cash bonus. You can still build a team with that. Trent will retire soon which will free up most of that money.
That’s why I like Steve, even though he has a 49er bent to him He’s as close to honest as you’re going to get. The 49ers were gifted three games in a row. The Packers could’ve stole it from them. The Lions should’ve stole it from him and the Chiefs were not playing on all cylinders and the Packers beat Dallas the real competitors so you’re right Steve’s right that was the easiest path to Super Bowl win was last year, I should say it’s this year it was 2024
....i really love the steve young interviews and that sb loss was disappointing. But other than that not everyone bats 1000. I think brock played amazing last year and has played great two years in a row. The way the niners lost was because the hc didnt call two running plays when it was 2nd and 5 with 2min left in a tie game in field goal range. Im sorry brock purdy is legit and if niners decide NOT to pay purdy the dollars and let brock go because purdy will be demanding a serious contract would be the WORST move they have ever done.
I think you need to step back and analyze the situation a little further! Everyone and their mother was calling for JimmyG's head after 2019...but when you compare JimmyG's stats from that year, when we lost to KC in the SB, to Brock's numbers last season, Brock's not 'far and away' better than Jimmy! But that's what everyone and their mother are saying about Brock THIS YEAR! Who cares about "yards per completion", "air yards per completion", etc., etc., when the team loses because Brock's won/loss record in games with 30+ pass attempts is just 2 & 3, with 9 INT's and 8 sacks!!! The more Brock is asked to throw, the odds of winning decrease, he's more prone to throwing INT's, as well as getting sacked!!!
Steve just probably expressing his frustration and disappointment. He's also giving Brock some advice using his leg and feet in addition to his extra-ordinary talent.
😂 The lions just like being in the superbowl mix. Just happy to make the playoffs. You don't hear them saying a 2nd tier quarterback is elite. Like you 49ers fans

@@moody4tech635 Steve Youngs opinion is not a legit reason why Purdy isn't elite. He has a 96.2 passer rating, and only 1 interception in 6 playoff games. He ran for pivotal 1st downs against the Lions and Packers in the playoffs, he also came back in both games. The Superbowl loss was on the defense collapsing in the second half. Purdy kept them in the game. So again please give evidence of why he is not elite.
lol funny steve saying this when he was on a super team much better than what brock has and used to choke in the playoffs with it. been saying this for a while, but steve is jealous of purdy
He reminds me a lot of Kurt Warner. Luckily for Purdy. There's no tape on him playing bad on other teams like Young and Warner. Plus Purdy is more athletic than Warner. Warner needed hall of Fame talent to bring out the best in them. Larry cooked with any Random QB's throwing him the ball. He made Warner look good again along with Bolden. People now to try pretend they don't remember his tape when he was on the Giants If Trent Green didn't get hurt. I wonder what would have happened. That rams team was loaded.
Someone explain to me how and these random teams got better just cause they got high pick QB’s, or whatever?? EVERY team in the NFC is notch, or 2, or 3 below the Niners, both hypothetically and irl. And ppl gotta decide. Half are arguing SF will never win anything with Shanahan, and the other half are saying Purdy is benefiting from Shanahans system. Which is it? Is Shanahan the problem or the solution??
Our chance last year wasn't based so much on the chiefs or anyone else being weak. The roster talent we had last year was generational. The NFL doesn't see rosters like that very often.
after his first full year, his #'s weren't that much better than JimmyG's year in 2019..so calm down on the "Brock is a baller" comments! Both played in 16 games...(Purdy DNP vs Rams in last game of 23") and yet their number's are very similar! NOTE: Won/Loss is THEIR RECORD AS STARTING QB....NOT where the team finished at the end of the season! Jimmy G: 2019 Brock Purdy Won/Loss: 13 - 3 Won/Loss: 12-4 Completions: 329 308 Attempts: 476 444 Comp %: 69.12 69.37 Yards: 3978 4280 TD's: 27 31 Ints: 13 11 Sacks: 36 28 Sack Yards: 237 153 Total Points Scored: 479 491 Here's an even better stat... Both QB's, in games where they attempted LESS THAN 30 passes, both went 10 & 1 but in games where each QB attempted AT LEAST 30 or more, Jimmy G went 5 & 2, whereas Brock only went 2 & 3...and in those 5 games where Brock had AT LEAST 30 pass attempts, he threw 9 INT's...whereas JimmyG in his 7 games where he had 30+ pass attempts, only had 7 INT's... So, the more Brock is asked to THROW THE BALL, the more likely he's going to throw an INT and on top of that, the 49ers chances of winning decrease significantly!
I hope Brock Purdy does a Tom Brady with his contracts. That way he can always have good talent around him not that he needs it, but I think he wants to play for the Super Bowl instead of the money kind of like Tom Brady. This is what I hope you know the moneyis going to come from other places like wildfire he will be rich
By opening questions with: “Is Brock any good?” it clearly shows the interviewer is NOT any good. Steve shoulda felt disgusted for having his time wasted. The question is: “Is Kyle any good?” Without Brock he shoulda been fired losing SBs and drafting useless Lance…..John shoulda been let go, too. Brock is Joe 2.0. Kyle was born on third base….👎🏿

Matt Stafford was wallowing in Detroit for how many years. Did anyone believe he was a Super Bowl winning QB? Nope. Not until he got to LA did it become possible. Why? Because LA was a far better team than the Lions. Let's face this fact. Last year the Chiefs won not because of Patrick Mahomes but because of their defense. Their defense got them into the Super Bowl and helped them win it. Lots of different QB's win Super Bowls. Guys that can run. Guys who can't run. Guys with laser fast arms. Guys without laser fast arms. In the end, teams win Super Bowls.
you dont have to be Allan or Mahomes - like. Brady did kick their ass, all of them, for 20 years... there were others before Mahomes... and truth be told, Purdy has a higher ceiling than Brady. the boy can move. Is he the leader brady was, not yet.. but neither was brady in his second year.

I honestly think any average qb can do what Brock is doing with the talent that’s been available to him. Example Gardner minshew a 6th round pick that’s looked good on bad teams I think he’d look like purdy on the 9ers. 9ers should leverage that in negotiating and keep that top talent.
I feel like you don't watch the games. You just say oh, there were a bunch of good players so that explains everything. I'd like you to go back and watch some of those plays that other quarterbacks including really great quarterbacks just don't do. The 49ers didn't have a burner receiver, but Brock had the most air yards. Brock actually was 31st or 32nd in number of passes that were within a yard of the line of scrimmage. He had a kind of efficiency that can't be explained just by having good teammates. Look at the touch he had on passes and putting it right past the defensive backs. Go back and look at the pass he had for a touchdown to McCaffrey in the second half of the Cincinnati game and then look at the play right before that the Kittle. You tell me if Gardner Minshew could do that. You tell me if Josh Allen or Joe Burrows could do that.

It was the O-line that let us down and shanahans coaching.
He won't get in his teams way
@@kevlark3184 You can't possibly think York is wise.
As long as Mahomes and other top QBs in the AFC still playing at an elite level.... Good luck winning a SB.
That’s why I like Steve, even though he has a 49er bent to him He’s as close to honest as you’re going to get.
Purdy is a great runner. I don't know what Steve is talking about.
Steve knows more than anyone in the comment section. I believe him
I love SY, but in the last 20 years only Wilson and Mahomes have won it all witg the running ability he's referring to
I can’t take anymore heartbreaks from football team.
Then stop watching sports
Go niners!!!!👇
I am so stoked for this year with Brock Purdy!
8:22 that’s interesting about finding that “gear”… I’m a little bit nervous about how the offense will look once Brock gets paid..
Just one man’s analysis
Brock definitely needed that extra gear last year.
He just better not playing games that it’s raining because it definitely showed up against the Packers were he couldn’t hold the ball even with gloves
Colin kapernick didn't play in thi system 😂
They are going to win a SB with Brock, but it’s more likely to be in 5 years with a different version of this team than next year.
I felt for most of 2023 like Steve Young really wasn't watching the games. Some of the stuff he said just didn't fit what was going on on the field.
Same yhing that happens to most teams... they'll continue to be good, but not good enough
Steve just probably expressing his frustration and disappointment. He's also giving Brock some advice using his leg and feet in addition to his extra-ordinary talent.
Another gear? Jared Goff just got paid 50 mil/yr. What gear do the Lions think he’s on?
😂 The lions just like being in the superbowl mix. Just happy to make the playoffs. You don't hear them saying a 2nd tier quarterback is elite. Like you 49ers fans
@@moody4tech635 stats and wins don't lie. He's a top 5 qb in the league, get over your bias because it shows you don't know what you are talking about. Purdy has more or as many playoff wins in only 2 seasons, than all but Mahomes in the elite talks. He was top 3 in every single qb stat except passes thrown(17th). He was the most efficient qb in history, only Kurt Warner is close for 1 season. So please bring some legit reasons for why he isn't elite. I'll wait for it.
@@cameronzwicke5761 that's easy, just look at his playoff stats since you like stats. If you want to go by stats that would mean him and Tua are the best quarterbacks in the league. Steve Young just said you ain't winning a superbowl. Wake up and be happy you have a good quarterback not elite.
@@moody4tech635what's your take on Kurt warner or Nick Foles than even Russell Wilson to a degree. Though Russ was a legit duel threat.
lol funny steve saying this when he was on a super team much better than what brock has and used to choke in the playoffs with it. been saying this for a while, but steve is jealous of purdy
I really like Brock. Deserves great contract. Do you think they will trade guys like CMC and Fred and Brandon?
Brock Purdy will get $50M because his agent asks for it…Purdy is amazingly grounded, and would play for league minimum if he had to.
Is Shanahan the problem or the solution??
guy is a machine. B.O.T. Purdy
50- 20 bonus which would be 30 mill year.
Damn you can’t really argue against what he just said. Truth beats any argument you can make. Ouch ha Brock has to make a statement this year.
Our chance last year wasn't based so much on the chiefs or anyone else being weak. The roster talent we had last year was generational. The NFL doesn't see rosters like that very often.
Salary cap rises every year. Even if we sign him for 5y/$280m, by his 4th year we'll still have another $250m to spend on the rest of the roster
I hate it when you call anyone a system player.
Steve Young is underestimating Purdy- he says that Jimmy G did this, but Jimmy G did not led the league in almost all qb stats and almost win Mvp.
Jimmy was not aggressive. Kaep wasn’t that bright (basic RPO guy). Brock is a baller…….
after his first full year, his #'s weren't that much better than JimmyG's year in 2019..so calm down on the "Brock is a baller" comments!
Both played in 16 games...(Purdy DNP vs Rams in last game of 23") and yet their number's are very similar!
NOTE: Won/Loss is THEIR RECORD AS STARTING QB....NOT where the team finished at the end of the season!
Jimmy G: 2019 Brock Purdy
Won/Loss: 13 - 3 Won/Loss: 12-4
Completions: 329 308
Attempts: 476 444
Comp %: 69.12 69.37
Yards: 3978 4280
TD's: 27 31
Ints: 13 11
Sacks: 36 28
Sack Yards: 237 153
Total Points Scored: 479 491
Here's an even better stat...
@@itzanopinion It’s a results business, my friend……
Brock's not going to take 50M a year though. He's gonna take a team friendly deal.
Feeis like we missed. Already looking forward to next year by drafting Pearsall. Deebo or BA at a minimum will be gone to make room for Purdy.
Nah. He’s good but idk if he’s worth a major contract.
These topics are fucking ridiculous he took this team to a superbowl
I hope Brock Purdy does a Tom Brady with his contracts. That way he can always have good talent around him not that he needs it, but I think he wants to play for the Super Bowl instead of the money kind of like Tom Brady. This is what I hope you know the moneyis going to come from other places like wildfire he will be rich
Part of me agrees with this. But part of me is not happy about the disrespect he gets. And that includes from the 49ers organization.
Look at the Detroit game
I think you mean the Packers game.
Steve still thinks a team needs a dual threat QB like Steve Young and hasn't fully given Brock who is a more Joe Montana style QB his flowers. That time is coming.
Russ is the last Duel threat To win a SB though. 12 years ago. Before that it was Steve before I was born lol.Pat is an elite passer who can run. Lamar and Hurts aren't elite passers.
Steve speaking facts.
Same old comments young has given all along. He wants a clone of himself. I’ll stick with Barack
It’s crazy how quickly a team’s window closes. Here is right about the Packers being better, Lions improving, etc. It’s now or never
It's interesting because in past years a few teams would look like they got a lot better and everyone would expect them to improve, but they wouldn't. But I guess that won't ever happen again.
they could make up a lot of the $50 mil with the loss of trent, juice, and perhaps one more.
Juice? He gets paid fuck-all in the grand scheme of things. They'll need to trade away/release players to pay for that contract. They're gonna have to be really good at drafting to get close to the same level they're at right now.
@@rld1982 they won't be dropping Trent, Deebo will be gone. Lynch knows what he's doing, Jimmy got paid and it didn't destroy the team. They are good at finding affordable replacement players when they need them.
@@cameronzwicke5761I would rather they drop Hargrave than Deebo. Deebo is one of the players who supports Purdy, especially against Lynch and Shanahan.
Is the field bigger? Nope. It's not. Josh Allen = no Super Bowl victories. Jalen Hurts = No Super Bowl victories. Lamar Jackson = no Super Bowl victories. You know who has? Nick Foles.
Josh Allen isnt a championship qb
Blame Kyle Shannahan for setting his team up for failure during games and key situations blowimg their chances to win it all last year and in 2019 and his arrogance for not owning up to hi own accountablity, amd lack thereof....And off topic: Shannahan losing ina disappointing loss to new england with his last team in Atlanta. He is breeding a losing culture in Sam Francisco!
I honestly think any average qb can do what Brock is doing with the talent that’s been available to him. Example Gardner minshew a 6th round pick that’s looked good on bad teams I think he’d look like purdy on the 9ers. 9ers should leverage that in negotiating and keep that top talent.
Then they should trade Brock for Gardner Minshew or get back Trey Lance. Trey Lance Was drafted a lot higher than Minshew.
Our window is already closed. It closed after this past year
Once Brock is paid you'll be lucky to see a NFC champion chip game
well we saw what purdy looked like with out deebo and Trent will....... if he can step up with the odds not in his favor then we can talk about greatness. if the niners don't see any kind of progression, they will not pay purdy
Those Losses were due to the absence of Trent and Deebo's absence hurt but not crucial. The Trent's absence was crucial.
They just drafted a WR in the 1st. Niners are getting ready for life with Brock as the highest paid Niner. Deebo and BA will still get paid this year and next but, once Brock is handed the bag, Samuel and Aiyuk may get traded while Jennings and Pearsall become Brock's primary targets.
@@MrPhilbautista Deebo will be gone for sure as he can't stay healthy. BA won't be going anywhere, as they will set his contract up to support the Purdy contract. Piersall will be Deebo eventual replacement.
We absolutely did miss our window.
An folks calling him elite 🤣🤣. He’s a mid quarterback, with great talent around him and no elite QB traits outside of processing.
I know it’s easy for me to say because I’m not the one playing….but wouldn’t it be awesome if Brock was just like “look, pay me a decent amount, but don’t break the bank to pay me and if make our team take a giant hit.” I know….wishful thinking
