Shim cheong is from a korean tale called 'the filial daughter', which has several different versions, mostly with minor alterations but the general story is as follows: Her mother dies in childbirth and her father goes blind from grief so she grows up taking care of him. When she becomes 'of age' (15 or sometimes 18) her father hears of a monk (or shaman or witch) who can cure his blindness but the fee is 300 (or more) sacks of rice. To earn this for him, his daughter decides to sell herself to merchants looking for a sacrifice to a dragon god of the sea for safe passage. She throws herself into the water, the dragon is impressed with her love for her father and turns her into an empress. Her father is so overjoyed to hear this that he regains his vision (Funny enough, the versions of the story from jeonju, where hwasa is from, are more detailed and elaborate than most other locations, including more characters and more in-depth occurances) Basically, the story is used to teach that good things come from listening to/taking care of your elders (especially the men). (The jeonju version also makes fun of her father, having him fall in love with a selfish and greedy woman who steals his wealth before his daughter becomes empress)
When Hwasa and Wheein still in middle school they promised that they would appear in each other's solo mv if they become a succesful singers. And they really stick to that promise. Look at them now, from school girls dream to succesful singers, best part was they reached their dreams together, nobody can break them apart
Twit was a MASSIVE HIT in SK, she topped all the charts becoming one of the strongest soloist of SK!! Everyone (even celebrities) who attended to the Gaon Charts were excited about her performance. She was really touched because it was her last Twit performance, it was like a sort of goodbye to the Twit era, which brought a lot of love to her, that’s why she was about to cry, she didn’t expect that love she received during this era.
unlike other kpop group who usually keep the image that they never date anyone, Mamamoo actually quite open about their past relationships. Hwasa said that TWIT is about her ex, who love her so much but they broke up due to her focussing on her career. The first part of the song saying he is a fool cause he love her too much and loose himself in the process. The second part she called herself a fool cause she said “I don’t know if I will ever find another person love me as much as him”
Mamamoo is a group that you will get 4 soloists, 4 vocal, 4 rapper, 4 dancer, 4 performer, 4 songwriter, 4 comedian. Hwasa stage presence is no joke, plus she likes big scale performance and roll on the floor. Actually all of them, their facial expressions can be seen every time they perform.
That iconic live performance was very emotional for Hwasa because it was supposed to be the last time she performed Twit in an award show (never understood that), so she gave her best performance ever for that song. Another iconic one for me was all 3 members were with her when she won 1st place for Twit and they were celebrating and singing with her, Heartwarming in an awesome way.
@@SylverReactsYeah they "supported" Hwasa by all 3 dog piling on top of her in the middle of her live singing. She stayed on key nothing can be allowed to break breath support!
The male actor in the mv was actually a choreographer and backup dancer who has worked with mamamoo for years. He was often wheein's partner when dances called for her to have one and he also choreograohed all of wheein's dance performance videos before she left rbw. He also choreographed moonbyul's 'chair dance' for "hip" and the queendom performance for "gogobebe", among other things. He has gone by both baek0118 and xion0118 on social media and in wheein's performance videos
This single was a great solo debut for Hwasa. Hwasa's appearance to "i live alone" made her popularity rise and might have also aided in Twit's success besides from it being a catchy song. It was really a good start for her solo career.
There is an interview with Hwasa where she says this song is about someone she was dating. At first she thought he was a twit for the way he was so naive and focused on her. But later she realized that she was justifying her own behavior. And that she was the fool.
Sim Cheong is a reference to a SK folktale, where Sim Cheong sacrificed herself for her father. Fyi. I believe she’s saying, like you said, she doesn’t like that the guy put her in a pedestal and made her his whole world. Almost feeling like an object and not an equal. She knows this and is taking advantage of it anyway, thinking the guy’s a twit. And slowly the guy realizes his mistake just as she realizes the depth of her emotions towards him. That’s why in the end she grabs him but he walks away instead. In short, I think the guy didn’t really love her that deeply but was obsessed with her. She knew and took advantage of it but actually fell in love-ish(?) and wanted to have a healthy relationship with him but at that point he’s done? Man, did I even make sense? 😂 Anyway, a looot of vidoes in and my point still stands: Mamamoo group/solo has never released a bad song ever. Happy holidays!
Happy Holidays, and yeah you make plenty of sense and I think that echoes what other people have mentioned as well, I think the ending really takes it from a song that could be shaming someone to one more about self reflection and I like that much more.
Follow djvillan's suggestion if you haven't already. It's worth it just for the explanation of Korean references and word play that don't come across in translation but Danny Kim gives his interpretation of the symbolic content in the MV and I think he did a good job. A lot happened between Twit's release in Feb '19 and the 2019 Gaon award show performance in Jan '20. As you said, it was a dramatic, epic production and so were her emotions on the occasion. Besides being the grand theatrical finale to Twit before moving on to her next solo project I think other events during the year contributed to her emotional performance. 2018-2019 was the peak of Mamamoo's career and they pushed their limits in creativity, productivity, performance and physical and mental endurance, which turned out to be too much for Wheein. A quick list of some of their activity during those 2 years includes 4 EPs, a full length album, two 4 Seasons concert tours with shows that ran 4-5 hours long, their win on Queendom, solo debuts, albums and concerts by the members, and an appearance at KCON Los Angeles in August '19 by 3 of the members. Wheein went to the airport but didn't make the flight. The official statement was that she was sick but it seems pretty clear that she had a panic attack and broke down. Though she somehow participated in everything they did for the rest of the year she took a break after their Hip promotions and year end award show performances and went on hiatus for several months in 2020 while the other members worked on solo projects. Hwasa was very upset of course and I think she channeled her worry, anger and frustration over Wheein's condition into another level of take no prisoners, there's no tomorrow performances during that time period, culminating in the Gaon award show. Hwasa & Solar have always been thought of as the weakest dancers in a group that can't dance to begin with. Hwasa sucks so bad that a year after the Gaon award show she walked away from the 2020 MAMA award show with a trophy for Best Solo Dance Performance for Maria, beating out nominees like dance legend Taemin of Shinee. I try to pay as little attention to the nonsense spoken about Mamamoo as possible. The critical narrative about Mamamoo always turns out to be false or a misunderstanding (to be generous), if not outright lies and slander.
I didn't know Wheein ended up having a hiatus, I wonder if that contributed to her decision not to resign with rbw for solo activities, but yeah it makes sense that Hwasa channeled all that power and emotion into this performance then!
@@SylverReacts I don't recall whether RBW announced it as an official hiatus or she just said she was taking a break. She released Goodbye in Sept '19 and her next solo project was the Redd album in 2021. Other than MMM's Travel album in the fall of 2020 she only did a few features and a couple of OST songs that year (both masterpieces btw). The only surprise about Wheein leaving RBW was that Hwasa didn't leave with her.
Davichi (kpop female duo) sad promise music video reaction plz!!!!! 🙏 They caught criminals, but became criminals by killing people.road scene is police in front of them and they don't have a choice. Last scene is maybe heaven (they death) or be a rich (earn money from caught criminals and eat steak)

All four of them are underappreciated when it comes to dancing.
That's fair! lol
I always thought of Twit being about the same relationship as Wheein's Easy but from opposite perspectives, right down to the mirrored cameos.
That’s a cool head cannon I like it! ☺️
I’ve thought the same thing! I mean, I know technically they aren’t, but they really mirror each other so well. 😂
