      Might be professional jealousy on Cronenberg's part. His movies have gotten more critical respect, but John Carpenter's movies have made a larger impact on popular culture.

      Idk it seems to me that Cronenberg isn’t full of himself or at least isn’t any more full of himself than Carpenter. There’s an interview with Carpenter from the 70s where he says Altmans a bad filmmaker and Spielberg and Lucas are overrated. So he’s clearly got a bit of an ego himself.

    Carpenter strikes me as the type of man who after talking to him and telling him how much his films mean to you. He stays silent, stands up and says "I'm gonna take a shit..." and walks out.

    • @Theomite

      Carpenter has been in semi-seclusion at his home in San Marino for the better part of 20 years. He does virtually every interview there because, like Kubrick, he prefers to be home. He moved there shortly after THE FOG because he fell in love with the geography. I also think that he has early stage emphysema because he's been smoking for roughly 50+ years, and unfiltered ones for roughly half of that, so I think traveling is really hard on him physically.

    After coming from a separate interview of his where he says he has no idea what it means that he has a "cult" film or cult following it's funny that this interview starts off with saying Ghosts on Mars is a great cult film and John just ignores that comment.

  • @Theomite
    @Theomite 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I wonder if John had never started smoking if things might've been different around '01. I think his waning health, which has become very visible in the last 20 years, may have had something to do with being burned out.

      Erick Von Witz I have to disagree. As I say, I love John Carpenter, but my man's gotta be Cronenberg.

    12:10 I think they SHOULD'VE let Halloween die imo... reason why is NOW if you see the remakes or sequels, you KNOW coming into it that hes NOT going to die... you're basically going to see people get butchered and murdered...
    It lost my interest and i feel that they SHOULD'VE stopped after 2 and let Michael die in that fire, and went with John's original idea of using the name but having a different concept every year with the title...
