Good Morning, Everyone! I am so happy that you are joining me on this repair! Are you ready for a chainsaw repair MARATHON!? I have had so many saws across my work bench in the last week - and made a video about every single one of them! This video about the MS250C was filmed over a week ago, so the repair line up looks very different today then it did during the making of this video. Both MS201's , the recoil repairs, MS260, MS291, Echo CS600P and the Stihl 036 are no longer sitting there - they have all been on the bench! I hope you are READY for new videos!! Keep an eye out over the weekend for a BIG GIVEAWAY ANNOUNCEMENT! Thank you SO MUCH for watching! See you soon!
Good morning indeed! So glad you decided to record these repair videos. I like listening to your voice and learning from all of the different scenarios that you encounter. That Tyler guy has an adorable wifey♥
Thanks for these great videos. I've learned so much about my saws from watching your videos. I HATE the hand tensioner they have on these saws and the last saw I got with it I replaced it with a traditional tensioner. What are you using to clean the saw?
I was given a MS250c with tool less tensioner. It to had a floppy plastic piece. The metal rod was not in correct position. Couple parts needed replacement. But, with use chain would loosen. I was told I wasn’t tightening it enough! The guy torqued it, on. Soon it was right back to cut a few rounds tighten. And I had to replace a part again. I’d had enough ordered the kit to tool type tensioner. No more loose chains.
The fact that the MS250 is still for sale is a testament to how great this chainsaw is! Everything works better when clean, and this shows what problems occur when it‘s not. Learned something again from your video!👍
German Engineering - To make a small, inexpensive, lightweight, easy-to-use chain saw for occasional, unskilled, non-professional users: 1) replace two simple bar nuts with a complicated, problematic, “tool-less” chain cover/tightener “which’s does not like dirt” and “is always loose”, 2) replace the familiar, relatively simple starting rope with a more complicated, problematic spring-wound “starter” (see other YT sites for examples of damaged “starters”) Yes, these improvements DO add cost to the saw. Yes, they DO add weight. Yes, they DO add bulk. But sooooo clever and complex! More German Engineering: The traditional screw-on bar oil and mix caps have already been replaced by the problematic flip-twist-and-curse caps (to be fair, they only leak when there’s oil or fuel in the tank).
THIS VIDEO IS GREAT I JUST BOUGHT A USED MS 250 C AND WAS PLANNING ON TAKING THE RECOIL AND CLUTCH COVER OFF ,AND JUST CLEANING EVERYTHING AND GIVING IT A ONCE OVER CHECK UP ,,CHANGE FILTER ,NEW PURGE BULB ,CARB KIT ,,THANKS ERIKA YOU MADE MY DAY ALOT SIMPLER,,FROM BOBCAYGEON ONTARIO 😁👍👍🇨🇦🇨🇦HAVE A GREAT DAY
I've had this same saw now since 2009. I have countless hours on it here at the farm. When I bought the saw, I thought the e-z pull was a gimmick. Not so, and I love it even more since I have had five pins put in my dominant shoulder. I never have issues with a loose chain. It is too easy to take care of it. I just used it again today to remove a dead hickory which fell across one of my access roads. I only recently found your channel and you are the real deal. Great job.
I really hope your customers really appreciate your excellent service and care of their saws.... everything is so clean and shining when you fix them 😍😍😍😍
What a dirty saw!! Quick story….Had a very large 100 ft pine that needed taken care of. Bought myself a new 500i. Been years since I cut up pine….forgot about the sap. My brand new saw quickly got covered in sap! My gloves, chainsaw pants, boots, and of course transferred it to my clean tractor controls, pedals, steering wheel etc!! What a mess. My new saw did get the full spa treatment 😅😅. Along with my tractor 😂😂. Thanks for sharing Erica!! 👍👍👍👍
@ I used varsol carefully …..was a rather tedious job, especially around fins of recoil housing. Also used Goo Gone on some plastics parts and hood, steering wheel of tractor. Didn’t bother trying to clean chainsaw pants. Work boots were put in a garbage bag, then into freezer for a week or so, then I chipped the sap off with a hammer and small chisel.
Outdoor power equipment is not plug and play. One has to do some maintenance to keep it running and operating properly. Then again, if they are willing to pay you to remove the SCHMUTZ for them. Good for you, bad for them.😅
Hi Erica - another thing about worn bars, especially ones running new chains, is checking the rails to make sure they are square and true to the perpendicular of the bar. If the last chain was worn unevenly, and had cut a curved kerf, It will have worn the rails unevenly, and unless they're trued, will cause the new chain to cut crooked sooner than later as well. I used to have the local dealer give me what they called "a bar grind", until I set up my own rig with my 8 inch pedestal grinder. Being able to stand the bar upright by itself on a horizontal surface will tell you the rails are true.
I like this chainsaw, it has some nice futures to it like the easy start, adjusting chain, summer/winter air system etc. Nice one Erika, thanks for posting.🐞
Great video as always. I always take 10 minutes to clean my saws after using them, touch up the chain as well. Put them away looking like new. That way I’m assured that they’re ready for the next use.
Good Evening Erica 😀 I Bet That Saw Feels Like a New One After Its Nice Detailed Cleaning I’m Like You I Have To Clean All The Saws I Work on I’m OCD When it Comes Too The Saws There Like My Children Love Them All and Only Want The Best For Them 😊❤️😀
Hi there You are very good teck I enjoy you content I think you have the customers safety and confidence the way you do your work Thanks for the content and keep up the good work From USA Florida I just found your content and love it keep it up So informative God bless
Hi Erica, I enjoyed the video. I'm always glad to see them get back from the spa treatments, I always clean up what I'm working on before I try to find out what's wrong. It's a distraction for me and annoys me to be cleaning the mess that comes from it as I go. Then ......I clean it again before I put back together.
Personally I am not a fan of the tool less feature, I get them in with the same complaint, usually it is the screw missing on the tensioner wheel to the bar or not installed correctly.
I picked up a gently used MS251c found some good used parts and converted the easy pull start and tool less adjuster back to normal. Great saw! Thanks for another awesome video Erica!
Hi Erika. For a backyard learn as I go guy it’s great to see the detail you present on these vids. I find it amazing you are as patient as you are having to clean up other peoples schmutz all the time, but you know that schmutz might just be creating a bit of job security for someone in the saw repair biz.
If it looks like it, If it smells like it, It must be true fuel. Awesome video and I liked the ride through the countryside. I heard your mom / stern voice come out a couple times when you first started disassembling it.
When I cleaned up my 251 I used air........I got that gunk ALLLL over me. Have you ever made a video about you "saw spa"? You get them really clean and I think it would interesting to see what you do and how you do it.
You saw that my MS230 has mesh filter from factory never replaced it, I always wash it. But about summer/winter shutter I've never had issues with it being in summer mode. I keep it in summer mode even when it's under 0°C my carb doesn't freeze, I guess it's for cutting in conditions where is snow so the carb doesn't get icy...
some stihl (and other equipment) do not run or run optimal on true fuel(chickanic vid). Best synthetic fuel to run small equipment is aspen or motomix which is both alkylate gas. Perhaps the truel fuel can be used to winterize or for long term storage. Here in the Netherlands professionals have to use synthetic alkylate fuel or otherwise they get fined(health and emission reg.). We use the alkylate fuel too and it's great stuff. 7 or 8 years of use and longer term sitting resulted in zero fuel related issues. No issues with power or not starting. Drawback is expensive.
Those easy tensioners are fairly problematic in my experience. I wonder if offering the customer, the option to convert to a "standard tensioner" would have been less costly and provide better reliability. Plus you probably have those parts in stock. just my 2cents. Enjoy every video!
Hello Nice beginning 🤩of the Video, i hope you dont get problems with the Copyright. No Fuelfilter this time? And i dont like the Comfort Features, i dont know why, but i think it goes without. Thanks for another entertaining Video. Greetings
Speaking of air filters. I have a MS180c and in my opinion the air filtration is lacking a bit due to dirt in the intake throat. I called STIHL and asked if there had been any complaints about this. The rep suggested that I wasn't sharpening my chain properly, which would have maybe been a legit explanation if it weren't for the fact that this had been going on from day one and, not that I'm an expert on the matter, but I've maintaining my saws for over 45 years. Any thoughts on the air filters?
You must've had a lot of people questioning your spark plug gap when you first started making videos. You say "gapped properly" a certain way every time you install a new spark plug, and it always makes me chuckle, thinking there might be a reason you say it that way. 🤓
Erica I will be watching I love your videos I have a 028 it has some running issues it doesn’t want to run at full throttle and is hard to start do you have any suggestions for me to check on this saw
Perhaps a dumb question. I imagine you have a dead 230/250 in your crypt back there. If the owner was cool with it couldn't you just remove the one allen bolt, install a stud plus the adjuster and convert it to a regular adjuster setup? Those easy adjuster things always seem like a gimmick to me.
Loose chains are not fun, I have a 14" electric I use for limbing and just about a week ago I put on a new chain. A Tri-link 14" with a 050 gauge. And that thing just stretches all the time. I tightened it, cut 5 limbs less than 3" and it jumped off the bar. Tightened it, cut 3 more and it was loose again. Kept doing this, just a little heat and the chain would stretch till it almost jumped the bar. My fault for a, in a hurry cheap chain buy, and now I need a new chain.
I avoid saws with toolless chain adjusters - they are a crap idea. I first noticed them on electric saws and the chains never stayed tight. They are a disaster on gas saws. I'd never buy one.
I bet this guy's 4-dr Honda Civic (2007 model) has dirty fast-food wrappers all in the back floorboards, AND french fries under all the seats. WHO lets their saw get so PHILTHY??????????????
The "C" models are SOOO GAAAY!! Power tools should be MANLY stuff... I mean I don't mind anybody's orientation, just saying that examples like this are big NO!!
Your shoulder will love you in time after using this saw just for the pull starts... my shoulder is almost due for surgery after running chainsaws for many many years 😮
I was given an MS250C and I too found the E-Z start 'gimmicky' at first but you come to appreciate it when your work involves frequent engine stops/re-starts, not to mention the MS250 has very high compression and known to be a finicky on cold starts. I got rid of the E-Z chain tensioner and installed a traditional 2 stud setup.

Thanks for the video Erica. My OCD really appreciates the spa treatments to get rid of all that Schmitz.
Erica as dirty as that saw was , don't think the owner read his manual about maintenance. Thank you for showing me how that chain tensioner works .😊😊
Awesome fix ! I would kill to have my saws serviced with you. You are a consummate professional with an eye for detail 👍🏼
Thank you!
The fact that the MS250 is still for sale is a testament to how great this chainsaw is! Everything works better when clean, and this shows what problems occur when it‘s not. Learned something again from your video!👍
Just a few years ago you coukd get tem for $300. Great little ground saw.

A loose chain 😧 that is a strange thing to have happen to that chain but Erika is going to get it fixed and running again
Thanks again for your knowledge, You are on laptop in garage , im detailing my 69 Dodge Dart GT 340, Yes a Mopar garage with a 03 Dodge Cummins

Hi Erica 👋 I enjoyed your video 👍
Doing the video's is also a very clever way of auditing what you are doing with a customers tool. Helps with any future possible complaints. 🙂
Maybe a little motorhead’s Ace of spades for your next road trip opening segment.😀

I hate a dirty chainsaw. People who make a lot of sawdust instead of pull sawchips are not my kind of folks. There. I'm done.😂

Hate putting chains on those fast adjusters as I have arthritis in my hands and fingers !

Made it at last! First to view. Good morning Erica
Good Morning!
Morning. You need you some air at your work bench to help blow away the crud.
My air isn't far away, just out of camera shot :)
Then she‘ll have to then clean her shop up from all that crud! I always go outdoors with a saw using compressed air.
@@kbittorf335 I do too for the initial clean but I have air at the bench for the small stuff. Not an issue.
Do people ever take their saw apart and clean it before bringing it in for repairs 😢 I would charge them for cleaning it so you can work on it to
No, I don't think they do! :)
👍👍👍

Excellent diagnostic skills Erica. Where is your store located in Ontario?
Erica I will be watching I love your videos I have a 028 it has some running issues it doesn’t want to run at full throttle and is hard to start do you have any suggestions for me to check on this saw
Does that model not have a chain catcher, or did I just miss it? Good work!

What causes that wear “dip” in the bar?
Putting too much downward pressure on the bar compensating for a dull chain.
I avoid saws with toolless chain adjusters - they are a crap idea. I first noticed them on electric saws and the chains never stayed tight. They are a disaster on gas saws. I'd never buy one.
