To those who've only ever listened to 10,000 Days then this is what Maynard sounded like back in the day - in my opinion he has an astounding voice. He is one of my vocal idols
EpicDestroyer 667 he can still scream, he just doesn’t choose too. The music is reflecting the change that all humans are going through in this time and age, the ascension of the physical human body and earth into the spiritual human vessel and earth.
Space Bacon he 100% still has it. Voices change. His vocals on Undertow and Opiate are so whiney and nasally at times it’s almost funny. Sure, those notes in Parabola and Sober are brutally high for anyone to hit on a regular basis. His performances this year have shown that he’s trained quite a bit. I’m always impressed regardless of any flubs. It is funny to watch Adam roll his eyes during the high “this body” though. Lol.
No knocks on Rollins at all -- his bridge was just incredible, a real asset and it would've been a shame if it wasn't on the album. But Maynard's version kicks so much more ass! (And de la Rocha's bridge is also fantastic.)
Just when you thought the scream was at its peak... Dead in.....siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGJRFSIAOJNGDAKBGDZIOGNFSANGIOAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's hard to imagine a band in which all of the members are in total agreement about what sounds the best. I think it's completely understandable that somebody would end up leaving the band for that reason.
The story Maynard gave was that Rollins owed the band a gambling debt... so they made him do the talking part on Bottom in payment. Again, this comes from Maynard so take it for what it's worth LOL.
Great demo, but the album version improved in a couple of ways: the Henry Rollins spoken part is better in tone and content, and the production quality is way better (credit to Sylvia Massy).
i took a bunch of downloaded music from a friend and he had a tool album callled Opium Den which had tracks from Opiate and undertow anybody know anything about that
Guess what, guess what...? It's true, you see. It's true.I know it is true, because I am writing it before you.You see,I can't be wrong.I've the upper hand. dead insIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
funny enough i wish this song would be called bottle instead of bottom just for the soul reason that this song in a nutshell is about drug abuse and seeing drinkers first hand makes me think of the type of withrauls that drinkers go through

agreed, it's too bad though, i think he pushed himself to the absolute limit in the 90's and now his voice is kind of fading :(
@@bronjovi8096 Yeah his voice now is kinda weak cuz of ten years of straight screaming all the time, so tools music reflects that over time

Maybe he can’t perform certain songs like Ticks and Leeches, but have you heard him perform ,Part of Me , this year ? He still has it!!!

man maynard is pissed
And for good reason

Mary [Profoundish] -7 years later- There’s a version with de la Rocha??
@@andrewl6938 Yea, at a concert.
De la Rocha’s version makes me wanna puke. You can visibly see Maynard and all the others so annoyed with his obnoxious stage presence
Not comparable man chill
Oh 7 yrs ago carry on
the most beautifull scream i´ve ever heard, believe ir or not it made me smile
Just when you thought the scream was at its peak...

what a fucking record.. this is the kinda shit i breathe for
This is remarkably close to the studio version, as far as the guitar nuances.
OMG! his voice is amazing!
I'm naked and fearless... And my fear is NAKED!
DEAAAAD INSIDEE
Tool forever no doubt a favorite 🤘💯💯🎸🎸🎸
that's just an awesome track, no wonder they got signed. Tool is fucking amazing
Maynard on fire
They're not totally in agreement they just know how to communicate and compromise instead of just kicking each others asses and breaking up.
Damn good Demo dude, glad you post this, Great for all of us TooL fans
Paul wrote stink fist, eulogy, pushit, and aenema. None of his actual playing is on the record. Justin figured out the parts from the scrath demos.
1:45 Holy shit
This version is absolute🔥🔥🔥🔥
fucking sick as in the album
Wish they had used this version I’ve listen to it for years and I still get chills with that last scream it was so full of pure rage
Weapons out of my imperfections
@aperfectbk That's an epic, painful-sounding scream- I think I'd puke if I tried that.
this fucking rocks
I hear a lot of musical idiosyncrasies from the original as far as the instrumental goes!! I think they used much of this in the album version!
Люблю их ранний период
The story Maynard gave was that Rollins owed the band a gambling debt... so they made him do the talking part on Bottom in payment. Again, this comes from Maynard so take it for what it's worth LOL.
That's most likely a joke because Hank is so "straight" also he was mjks mentor and took him on tour with Rollins band for about 4 years..
where the heck did you get this track???
Great demo, but the album version improved in a couple of ways: the Henry Rollins spoken part is better in tone and content, and the production quality is way better (credit to Sylvia Massy).
I also think Maynard’s lyrics and screams seem a bit more polished
i disagree, i think the spoken part is a better in this version than the studio one
Tool вы супер
This was a good song.
you see i have to arm myself to fight you now
Sick demo! Man, I'd love to have that tool phallic hardware image. WHere'd ya get it? Plz lemme know!
Album cover to the demo tape it's commen
Limewire ftw
I love early tool
❤❤❤❤❤
he wasn't digging how progressive they were getting.
@RoyalAnarchist I'm no expert but I've seen Justin play live several times and he can hold his own.
Awesome
@jonas227 This is Maynard in this version, right?
Yes lol
@yyyuuuguppy I agree holmes...but you would have never known a difference had Paul not quit.
i took a bunch of downloaded music from a friend and he had a tool album callled Opium Den which had tracks from Opiate and undertow anybody know anything about that
There is no such album. 10 years!
Does someone go "woo" at 6:32? That wasn't meant to rhyme...
Yes Henry Rollins does the talking part of Bottom
🎸🎸🎧🎧🎶🎶

@jonas227 As opposed to the guy who features in Undertow.
Paul only wrote the songs. none of his playing is on Aenima. Its all justin.
i don't know for sure, but i think this is on "salival"
TheNeuroSpasm no its not
nope. salival is a live album.
How the fuck do you get these? Thanks so much for them man.
Paul. Justin didn't come in until Aenima
1:46
Maynard kind of sounds like Jim Morrison during the part Henry Rollins ended up doing.
@stinkfist93420
yeah it was a lie
dead insIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah the second verse is a bit different
funny enough i wish this song would be called bottle instead of bottom just for the soul reason that this song in a nutshell is about drug abuse and seeing drinkers first hand makes me think of the type of withrauls that drinkers go through
Uncle JOE too me this song is about depression
when you hit rock bottom, my friend.
@@2-d_in_a_bag we have all been there
lolwut
It's on the CD "Undertow".
That can't be true. Look at APC. That's not anywhere near pop. Can't be Maynard that wanted the pop sound.
@distubedrat
i recently uploaded a rare 10,000 days demo instrumental, its fuckin dope. you can get to it by clicking on my screen name
is this on the 72826 demo?
Yes
@@lobaido1 no actually
LOL suk it Game of Thrones. TOOL was there first
Silver Noob I don't get it:(
in what context?
Still waiting…
I think Paul was such a better bassist than Justin or bassists from other bands
