    You should change the title of this lesson to “Hey Everyone-This is the clawhammer you need to watch on TH-cam”. I think I have seen every clawhammer lesson out there and most people are terrible teachers (not intentionally). You do an excellent job-thank you.

    I've played Scruggs style for years as for some reason I always found clawhammer a bit confusing, however with these lessons I feel I might actually be getting somewhere.

    I do really enjoy your videos Mandy. The huge difference between yours and everyone else's it your straight to the point. Really simple to understand.
    The big turn off for others is they want to show off there playing when its not needed

    She is really hitting those single strings cleanly. I’m getting better, but that’s what I need to work on. I also like her suggestion of hitting alternative single strings such as 3rd and 4th and 3rd and 2nd, at least that’s what I remember, but what ever they are it adds some much needed variety to the claw hammer style.

    Hi Mandy, Really enjoying your lessons and subtle humor. You really know how to break it down and make it easy to understand. "Relax and have fun" is missing from so many learning experiences. Hope I cross paths with you one day so I can thank you in person.

      Yep - relax and enjoy the journey! That’s the most important thing. Have fun!

    Mandy, I've been playing banjo for quite some time now and I have to say, you amaze me on how easy you make this look for beginners. My only regret would-be, that I didn't start with you to begin with. The struggle with learning the banjo for myself was, that I didn't learn a good foundation to begin with. Similar to what you're teaching now would've, put me on the right track in the first place. I continue to follow you with the hope of strengthening my banjo playing, " just in case I'm still missing something." Fantastic video lessons!

    Mandy, great great foundation as usual! Wish I had found you earlier, but it seems to me that however competent any player gets (and I've some way to go!), it pays to go back to basics time and time again. It must be right that practice is never wasted as long as you are practising the right thing the right way and you really do give good guidance

    Yea, that’s a good point about not needing to show off their playing while teaching. I just find their virtuosity discouraging compared to my lack thereof.

    Hey, thank you so much for your lessons! So far I am finding it easier to curl up all my fingers into my palm just leaving the index and thumb in the shape of a claw if that makes sense? Is this acceptable or is this a bad habit? I come from guitar so maybe this is why it feels more natural to be? Either way I would appreciate your advice! Thanks again, looking forward to part 3!

    I'm having trouble understanding the single note part of the pattern... Example: If a song has a certain type of rhythm, Do you play that rhythm/song with the single stroke lick and then add the brush, thumb in between regardless what the song is and how it sounds?

    • @BanjoLemonade
      @BanjoLemonade  ปีที่แล้ว

      The pattern in the video is for 4/4 songs. There’s a different pattern for 3/4.

    Mandy when you do the brush part of the claw hammer strum do you brush across the strings with one finger or two or three fingers?

      I suggest you go back to lesson 1 and it’s explained there for you Judy.

    I'm a little confused. No matter what string you hit on beat 3 do you still only brush on the bottum three strings?
