    It was my sons first birthday. Just before this performance I saw that shirt as I walked my dog backstage......oh yes in those days you could. With son on shoulder i approached. Said "this kid nearly got called ry til the midwife laughed". Least you could do is shake his hand. And bless him , he obliged. Son of course howled.oh c'mon little feller said he. And vanished with his minder to blow us away. Possibly the greatest living American artist. Thanks for a life of music ryland p Cooder

    Ryland cooder is the man! What a fingerstyle guitarist, open tunings &that slide was unsurpassed. I believe Clapton once said" Cooder is the greatest slide guitarists he ever heard". Listen yo that man be almost the greatest complements to the original blues men. Also Daddy Stovepipe. 👍

    I play acoustic slide in open D, just like him, but he damps down the strings and I don't know how he does it. I've stopped anguishing over this, I've stopped crying.

    Ray Cooper,yes I remember.Managed to get within spitting distance for all three sets.
    He really was something special,totally absorbed into what he was doing.stamping his feet so hard that the mikes were jumping around,poor sound guys crawling around trying to tape everything down.Lots of Blake,and awesome mandolin,three acoustic sets by Ray in his prime.Will never forget that weekend...thanks ,ever so, for posting.

      @@allenkennedy6748 , I suspect auto-correct changed Ry Cooder in "Ray Cooper". The reference to "Blsmake" would be Blind Blake; therefore, Ry probably played Travellin' Man/Police Dog Blues....

    Why does all these guitar techs set the action to low so you can hear it buzz. A guitar should ring out and be loud. No disrespect to ry thou! ❤

    • @jimajello1028
      @jimajello1028 ปีที่แล้ว

      He probably is my favorite guitarist from long ago. However, you are right, too much buzz from the strings not being high enough away from the neck & frets. This is not his best musical performance. At this time he was capable of much better playing. Being a professional champ of many instruments & styles he plows thru it. Understand, total respect for this man.

      I had a girlfriend who was hot for Clapton. And as it happens Ry was opening for Eric at the universal Ampitheater. It was no contest. Ry left Eric in the dust. She had to admit to Ry’s superior guitar prowess but hung onto Eric being cuter.

      Check out Sonny Landreth and Roy Rogers for great contemporary slide masters. Both play in the same rate air as Ry.

    I used to have his whole set from Cambridge Folk festival on cassette tape & I adored it but unfortunately the tape got lost when cd's came in and I've never found it since. The whole set is awesome & I would really appreciate you uploading all of it if you have it. There's a great song about the farmer I remember.

    "Ray Cooper"?????? He's the crazy percussionist who played on e.g. Clapton's Unplugged. Anyway, this is tremendous stuff. Any more?
