Excellent video, really liked it. More large overhead pipes I noticed at around 16.30, this time I noticed they were 'lagged', - so some form of hot water supply I presume. Rather unusual 'overhead wiring' around 22.30, looked like a system of girders, and some quite unusual 'points' in a lot of places. The 3 single cars joined together towards the end looked older, and were, but nevertheless in immaculate condition. All told a very enjoyable 30 mins.
You're right, the pipes at 16:30 are connected to a combined heat and power station just on the right hand sight of the street (Heizkraftwerk Nossener Brücke). Originally operated by burning coal the system had been switched to gas turbines almost 25 years ago. The older tram you can see at 24:55 was build in the Czech Republic (Tatra). Cars like these have been used regularly from 1969 to 2010, being manufactured until 1984 but refurbished in the mid 90s when Dresden as well started to procure the first low-floor trains. They kept 18 of these cars in reserve occasionally using them due rush hour (e. g. for students on special routes) which should technically be possible until 2025 if necessary. Additionally you can find several special vehicles for grinding, plowing, wiring inspection and of course traditional tours.
@@coswiger Thank-you for all that information - most interesting, - nevertheless those earlier cars were in beautiful condition. I thought the lack of 'overall' advertising trams was refreshing to see, - even the solitary one that did have it on at least the windows weren't covered in all that horrible mesh that is 'hell' to see through.
@@rmpll Thanks, - I guessed they were Tatra's, but wasn't sure which model. Mind you I haven't seen many non Tatra's from the - (behind 'The Iron Curtain' period) - in those Countries that were 'Russian' controlled, apart from a few KVB's.

Despite being less comfortable people start to get more and more interested in such nostalgia since it's not the typical model anymore (also with things in general) - quite nice. Nowadays some drivers who still know how to operate Tatras almost crave to get the chance to go on tour with them again. Well, there are trams and busses with (sometimes annoying) ads but transport services all around Germany mostly stick with just their corporate design or small patches only. Agreed with your dislike for covered windows.

Most of this route has a dedicated right-of-way and apparently priority at some intersections, so it's not much affected by the traffic. A good ride.

I love my trams expect this one, very very noisy and far to slow. You better lift your game or change to buses full time I think would be better,
Brian Matthews it just looks slow. In reality they are allowed to drive 60km/h but sometimes even do 70km/h.
