    Obviously I'm replying a year after this vid was uploaded, but I have version 1.8 on my phone (I'm in France, the app's in EN) and it seems to be doing everything that you showed the Indian app doing, so I guess they wheeled it out to everybody, all the new, better features. Thanks for bringing this to the fore, it was nice to see the two apps in contrast. Cheers, mate, and Ride Safe too !

    Maaaannnn... as a Royal Enfield customer who isn't in India, I actually find this to be pretty contemptible. I already disliked the unreliability and lack of functionality with Tripper, and to find out their foreign customers are getting a sub-par version of the app is ridiculous. Pretty annoying how they push it so hard as a selling point when it doesn't even work properly. I've also noticed it's slow to give directions, and when you're in an area full of small suburban blocks it's often unclear as to which street you should be turning into, so it's definitely more suited to countryside riding.
    However, as an additional complication, my phone carrier tends to have less coverage in regional parts of my country, so if my Tripper suddenly disconnects when I'm in the middle of nowhere then I'm screwed if I need to bring up the route on the dash again. As it currently stands, I experience a disconnection between the app and the module on about half of the rides where I use Tripper.

    • @UncleLongbeard
      @UncleLongbeard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's all ridiculous. On a plus side it can work better...

    • @Dan66T
      @Dan66T 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As it uses Google maps, may it help if you downloaded the section that you are going to ride before setting out, that way it doesn't rely on a phone signal, just the GPS? I have found that has helped me in locations where mobile coverage is spotty using Google maps, I've yet to try it in combination with the tripper, but I will try it when I visit those areas again.

    I followed your instructions and installed and registered the Indian version 7.7 - many thanks for your advice. It was not too difficult to get a free SMS number though I soon found out that this method is very popular and in high demand. But it can be done. As for the Tripper, I live in rural Ireland where a lack of internet data access is common. Without internet the Tripper is useless. I might as well use Google Maps or other app like Sygic on my phone that use offline maps and navigation. Pity about Tripper - it could have been good with some more thought put into it.

    • @UncleLongbeard
      @UncleLongbeard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      glad to hear that you managed to install it. In google maps you can download a map for offline use, not sure if that can't be done for tripper as it uses Gmaps

      @sligoquadcopter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    All the review Ive seen did not use this tripper in a metropolitan city where the intersections are overlapping and are not as simple as a left or right turn, what if there was 4 lanes split?

    • @UncleLongbeard
      @UncleLongbeard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be relatively fine as it clearly says which lane to use. That ring road with switching lanes is one of the most complicated situations you can find anywhere. Not the best device for sth like that but still doable.

      I was using google maps to intercom solution as well but eventually I missed a road here and there so in a bit more dense areas it's good to see some directions as well. Although it is more discrete than a full satnav, and really suits a bike like yours, or other retros, I think a dedicated proper satnav with map is far more useful in 99% of situations. Nice stick fix! :D

I think I am going to look for a single satnav that can run GPX files as well as road turn by turn, as currently, I have to run 2 separate navs as the green lanes don't work on the turn by turn Garmin

    i wish the tripper could just display your speed. i'd install one just for that. i tried out the india app and while it seems a bit better, the bugs are so annoying. they also need to hire a WAY better designer cause the app looks like it was made 10 years ago.

    • @UncleLongbeard
      @UncleLongbeard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Technically it can display whatever the dev wants... speed measured by your phone for sure ;) I would say though - they really need to hire some better developers. Even IMO India app is not that crap anymore, it still could be way way better.

  • @theodorstravels

    Instead of colors and blinking it would probably better just to show numeric distance until the turn, like google maps does

    • @UncleLongbeard
      @UncleLongbeard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it does that as well but the numbers are a tad bit small and don't know about you but I'm not really focusing on small digit on a screen when riding ;) Also that was a bit difficult because it was switching from miles to yards to feet which is still a bit confusing to me. Now I switched the whole system to metric which should work better for me.

I wasn't expecting audio when I bought the bike (a Himalayan) but it seems that I have it! It's very rapid so unintelligible ie sounds a bit like Mickey mouse! So any thoughts you have on that would be appreciated. In the meantime I'm going with your advice ie try to install version 7.3. Thanks Mike

      I don't think it's valid anymore. There was the update of the tripper app in the meantime so I don't know what is the actual version. As far as I know the current version has sorted all the issues I was talking here. Another thing is the voice instructions.
