  • Owning a home is getting more expensive as lenders begin putting up mortgage rates, spooked by stubbornly high inflation figures.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
The Bank of England is under even more pressure to raise interest rates again in response, possibly as high as five-and-a-half per cent.

You cannot cut your way out of recession you've got to invest your way out of recession, the Conservative party are in the dark ages on policy they've got to think again. My primary concern is how to maximize my savings/retirement fund of about £170k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains.

A strategy to protect against inflation is through the U.S stock market, especially the S&P500 & various ETFs. Investors must know where to put their money and how to distribute it in order to protect it against inflation while still making a profit, especially during a recession.

The truth is that people are finally waking up to the fact that our systems are breaking down in thousands of different ways all around us. Personally, the financial market seems like the only way to go with my long-term horizon (accumulated about £557,000 in earnings since May 2021), but if you don't have that time luck, it's a tough market out there down almost nowhere feels safe!

Yes, a Fidelity financial advisor named "Catherine Morrison Evans" put an end to my fears about investing, and after making more investments, I was able to reach the high six-figure mark in less than 3 years. A licensing advisor satisfies the necessary security criteria; hence, reimbursement is guaranteed if I'm dissatisfied with the service, so I'm much better off hiring one.

It is a government inspired crisis this time. The Treasury have to sell Bonds to cover the trade imbalance and the government spending imbalance. In order to sell them they have to raise interest rates and the old long-term, low risk, low interest, AAA investments (including Treasury Bonds), held by the banks (often due to government regulatory policy), become next to worthless. The next milestone is the 15th when the government issue a new batch of Bonds. I have approximately 350k stagnant in my portfolio that needs growth. What is the best way to take advantage of this downturn?

This goes back to the 1980s, if not earlier, the UK has become a service industry, shopping, banking, debt whilst science/engineering has been under valued, under invested in and run into the ground. Our economy worked when we could import cheap products from China/ Taiwan etc but now these countries are becoming more wealthy and hence the cost of imported good is increasing. Also the flood of cheap highly skilled workers from Eastern Europe and further afield is drying up as wages are so low in the UK compared to the US and EU. Hunt and Sunak are just bean counters, office clerks promoted above their intellectual capacities, excel gurus, they don’t have the vision to understand or see the desperate situation this country is in, we will simply stumble into a massive recession, unemployment will skyrocket and interest rates will continue to rise for years, this will take generations to fix.

The recent rise in interest rates, I must say, doesn't seem to be effectively curbing inflation. Instead, it's creating additional financial challenges for individuals. Cutting interest rates might alleviate some of the pressure.

You make a valid point, . It's clear that rising rates are a response to various economic factors, including increased imports and reduced exports. But I wonder if the continuous quantitative tightening and higher interest rates will eventually lead to some unforeseen consequences. Is it a good time to consider allocating some of our savings to stocks?

The economic landscape seems rather turbulent, doesn't it? First austerity, then Brexit, and now the specter of widespread bank failures. It's always a wise move to conduct thorough research and consult a licensed advisor before making any significant investments in these unpredictable markets.

I've been fortunate to have the same money manager for nearly a decade. We entered the market early with a modest investment, and it grew exponentially over the years. We even saw substantial profits after the GameStop surge in 2020/2021. Though inflation has eroded some of our gains, we're lucky to have a diligent advisor like Kayla Tabitha Rodrigues overseeing our portfolio.

The war and pandemic have not helped , but inflation was going up before the Russian invasion . The Fed in America doing very much the same....money based on huge debt..and things are getting worse . No wonder some countries are increasing their gold reserves , and people turning to a real asset.

    • @UkSapyy

Debt based economy works especially if you're a nation with a strong currency but let's say you have one of the strongest currencies and then do something to devalue your own currency after borrowing a lot then you've basically cut the amount of credit available and artificially inflated your own debt. If you do something to devalue your currency that takes years to implement then naturally inflation takes over to try to balance out that bad decision that is devaluing the currency. If you can't conveince people after the bad decsion your ecomemy is strong then your currency will become weak and the people poorer. Basically, Britain voted for this, so suck it up.

  • @simonoleary9264
    @simonoleary9264 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Let's ignore the Elephant in the room...
The government's complete lack of commitment to mitigate the energy prices!
If they had implemented a proper windfall tax on the energy suppliers, this could have been used to control energy prices for EVERYONE.
Instead, we got some token help for domestic users and businesses got completely hammered.
Since they have to pass those costs onto the customers, prices rise by a huge amount, resulting in a massive inflation rise in ESSENTIAL goods and services.
Increasing Interest rates is intended to reduce inflation by making people reduce their spending, however inflation isn't being powered by consumer spending, but by inflated energy prices, so increasing interest does very little except to increase the pain of the public (and push us further towards a recession).
The only answer is to bring down energy prices

Inflation is largely driven by supply side economics, primarily due to supply chain issues due to lockdowns and then the war in Ukraine. Putting up interest rates aint really going to deter people from using petrol, gas electricity and buying food ect. Ironically higher interest rates leads to higher rental and burrowing cost which also increases inflation.

Exactly. The poorer element have already stopped buying non essentials, but as a wealthy country, many still have enough to continue eating out, clothes shopping etc.
