As a 47 year-old praise and worship team member at my church, I am excited to see the younger generation unabashedly praising and worshiping our God. I've noticed a curious thing lately when it comes to worship music--there is a lot of negativity around it. This is a different sound, but I see these young people using their talents and gifts for God. Sure, there is the possibility of them worshiping self, but don't we all do that? None of us can truthfully say we are not self worshipers in some area of our lives. I think a lot of the negativity is from people who are jealous. Not because of someone else's talents, but because they cannot let go of their rigidity and praise God with all that is within them. David danced before the Lord till he danced out of his clothes. I will bless the Lord with ALL that is within me. Keep praising, honoring and worshiping our Lord because only He is worthy of all the glory, praise and honor!
To be honest I have no care with listening to worship songs, but now I really have to brcause this is the only way I know to calm myself outbof anger. I listen because every word that my ears hear, helps me calm and have a peaceful heart. Aside from that, thanks to my girlfriend who influenced me to listen some of their songs.
Awesome God! And I believe that what makes this SO much more powerful is the fact that you can CLEARLY SEE that they're all having fun PRAISING and worshipping together! With true hearts of worship in love with Jesus! From the lead singer to even the drummer, man, it's clear that they're all doing what they love and they LOVE what they're doing; and it's all to Him!
I played this station on my phone when my oldest dearest sister was dying. We had worship music in her room as she passed lovingly into the arms of Jesus. Thank you!! See you in heaven sis!

At the end of the day, no one should be able to tell you how to worship God. It is a personal experience. If jumping around is the way you do it, by all means please do. If you'd rather have the old way... Then that's fine too. Ultimately it's all about your relationship with God. And who are you focusing your praises to when you are jumping around or sitting on a bench. Though having said this, I think it's hard for younger generations to focus on Worship if we took away music from the equation. So it almost as if the music is an pre requisite to worship. So be careful...
your first para - yes. praise God in all things! in all ways! 2nd para - hmm, well the bible did mention to "praise Him with the cymbals and the trumpets" etc. maybe your older generation does find the genre bothersome and grew up with old hymns with organs and frowned upon huge actions of praise. haha. maybe that was your jam back then. but honestly, while yes i do find the level of music in the worship songs nowadays of a really high standard and of great production level per se if we're talking technical, we youth do look out for the passion in those drum beats, the voices, the lyrics, and even the bass lines. if worship were only about lyrics and song and the music that went around and accompanied it were not important and oh my, a distraction! to youth, then why would we have eager and passion-filled kids coming for practice every saturday and playing the keyboard and drums and guitar from afternoon till the night, praying in and out. they wouldn't be needed, they wouldn't be here. the music IS a type worship though. it's another way for us to express it. i kind of get what you mean, as a pre-requisite, but i don't really sit well with your point about taking music away from the equation. wait so what do we have left? lyrics? psalm recitation? then it would better be called meditation or bible study right? and yes, we DO do that too:) but i guess different generations have different types of appeal that they're drawn to.

What I meant was, if music was out of the equation, will the youth still eagerly praise God? I see this trend where big churches with fancy sound system and music equipments draw out thousands of young people (which is great by the way, and there is nothing wrong with mega churches that does well). But if all that luxury is taken away... Will thé youth still come?
Robert Matthews why worry about if they would or wouldn't instead of embracing that they're there instead of other places. I'm not sure if you're aware of the distractions thrown at the youth today; one thing that is a key piece in youth identifying themselves and their feelings is music. I believe God gets glory when a child can dance to a song about Him than a song that's degrading or inappropriate--because it's going to be either or. Whether your church has an amazing music team or not, the youth at that church are dancing and singing to SOMETHING. You can't fight reality, it just is.

I'm really confused as to why this is even an issue. Let's say hypothetically it IS just entertainment. The lyrics are still enough to proclaim God. I'm really confused as to why this is even an issue. Let's say hypothetically it IS just entertainment. The lyrics are still enough to proclaim God. What I'm saying is, even if it is entertainment, God is still God and His will be done. He'll use Planetshakers to reach the lost despite people thinking it's just entertainment.
