Ok. Let’s put it this way, Vilma Santos’ performance in “When I Met You in Tokyo” is very nuanced, which many moviegoers do not know and understand. This is precisely the reason why she deserves to win Best Actress in this year’s MMFF. There is a popular notion that good acting is simply having the sheer capacity to make film audiences cry buckets of tears or being able to shed tears easily. But good acting is more than that. Even the most intense emotions can be presented in a very subtle way, and Vilma Santos Recto (and Christopher De Leon) didn’t resort to histrionics (meaning akting na akting) to make the audience feel what their characters are going through. Actually, I thought “When I Met You in Tokyo” would be a corny movie about two people in their twilight years falling in love, but the film exceeded my expectations. Vilma’s performance is very finely measured. Boyet’s performance too. Vilma and Boyet’s chemistry is undeniable and unmatched even after forty years. We’ve seen them in unforgettable movies like “Relasyon,” “Broken Marriage,” “Haplos,” “Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan,” “Ipagpatawad Mo,” “Dekada 70,” “Imortal,” and “Tag-ulan sa Tag-araw,” the latter brought Vilma and Boyet together on the big screen for the first time. And in all of these films, they have proven that they are thespians of the highest caliber. They are peerless in their game. There are very very few actors, then and now, whose names can be mentioned in the same sentence with Vilma Santos and Christopher De Leon. That is why it’s a travesty (or maybe even an atrocity) to compare them with just anyone, particularly those who just crawled out of the woodwork.

Sharon Cuneta was robbed of the Best Actress at MMFF Gabi ng parangal, she is the most deserve to win that award for her excellent performance in Family of Two...I thought I am watching an awards night but later on it started to became a cooking because some of the awards are not deserving, like the 4th Best Picture, FPJ Memorial award for excellence? where is that excellent from that movie? It should be given to Firefly or Gomburza and the Best Actress award!
No offense meant Vilma is a veteran and multi-awarding actress, no question for that, but when you said best, then her performance in When I Met You In Tokyo in not her best, not worthy of an award!

I am privileged dahil naexperience ko ma-direct ni Direk Frannie during TABING days (Tanghalang Biñan). We did El Filibusterismo. Grabe para syang Douglas Nieras, bawal shunga😂 Pero sobrang dami mong matututunan. Magiging matalas ka as an actor. Mawawala lahat ng hiya mo sa katawan. All in all dala ko parin ang mga natutunan ko sa kanya kahit nagchange career na ako (event host). Yung passion nya matindi mahahawa ka talaga. Super idol ko to si Direk Fran. Annually kami in attendance sa stage plays/shows dyan ❤ required ng exclusive all girls HS namin 33 yrs ago ang last na tapak ko diyan. Diyan ko nakita in person in performance si Ernie Garcia, Joel Torre, Susan Africa, at ibang actors na active prin today, to name a few. Karamihan may historical basis and societal issues. Ung Kanser napanood ko yan sa Met hindi sa CCP di ko alam saan nauna, basta di ko makalimutan un grbe ang societal issues and dilemma, bilang Pilipino prang tarak sa di dib😢. Yan ang naging ist avenue ko pra mahilig ako sa stage shows ... as in nostalgic atm😢.

This is by far one of the best interviews I've watched that featured a great Filipino theater director who shared valuable insights and anecdotes about the industry, Director Frannie Zamora. Although I don't know him personally and I haven't watched any of his shows, when he speaks, his passion for theater is evident and his knowledge is impressive. Which made me even more eager to explore and experience the world of Filipino theater. On the other hand, Romel Chika's questions were thought-provoking and allowed Zamora to delve deeper into his craft. Kudos to both of them for their insightful conversation, which I really enjoyed. That’s his opinion, and he’s entitled to it. Lahat magaling kahit sino pwede. Always, at the end of the awarding ceremony, iba iba ang comment, but the jurors decision always prevail. If you are intelligent enough, you keep your mouth shut. Than telling the award giving body to do this and do that…Well, that’s my opinion too.
