    I was thinking the opponents might just bounce off before taking too much damage but those latest big cutters look like they dig in and take a decent chunk out!
    Very impressive project, the rotating body really gets some speed up.

    IDEA: make the motor that spins the outer ring reversible so you can switch between attack and defense mode (attack: where the ring spins do the other bot will be hit by the flat side of the weapon. Defense: where is spins the opposite way causing anything hit why the weapon to be flung back)

    Cool af.
    You need a walker for double weight limit assuming you're going to a robot wars like event. You need a design that cab run upside down, so a through the case design for the feet is best.
    I have a design idea if you want it, this is good but those wheels are vulnerable.
    Great music choice for the video.

    6:37 for this version of the shell
    the carbide needs back bracing, the overhang means it just cracks were the support ends.
    check all ya insert tooling and see how they brace them, since ya bot is basically a giant cutting head XD.
    (some carbide blends are more impact resilient, but i think over hang is your main problem.
    or try to adjust attack angel of them back like 15 degrees or so, so that the impact force will go back into the clip you fasten it with.
    it will lessen the bite of them, but sometimes a skim cut is better.
    could be fun to see if that would help
    love ya work

    • @wileecoyoti
      @wileecoyoti 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup this: basically because of the thickness of the ring wall there was no way to get the right support behind it and leverage the right cutting depth. Even so I'm not sure backing it up with the aluminum would have ever worked, just too soft and deformed with every impact. The steel version cut really well in the end, but ultimately got jammed up with pieces of opponent. Maybe we'll experiment for the next bot, or maybe someone else wants to but so far I think the more bash-y weapons are just more effective in the ring. New things learned for the future :)

    • @sonotthere
      @sonotthere 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wileecoyoti ye you right, the aluminum instert holders would definitely deform. Think i just forgot they weren't steel course i watched the rest of the vid xD. So ye you have to change that too

  • @SzymonRichert
    @SzymonRichert 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know it's quite late, but.. instead of doing the mill-like approach, mayeb it's possible to do propeller like approach sucking air from below robot and moving it up (as well as potential opponents)?
    I mean with that rotating mass (+downward force out of the winglets) the oponents instead of being shreded, would fly up in the sky...

    Wrong shaped inserts, surely you need something with a sharp edge hitting first, triangular maybe.

  • @vettepicking
    @vettepicking 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can tig weld using HSS drills as the rod and add hardened edges to tools etc........no heat treatment needed

    • @InformatrIIcks
      @InformatrIIcks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they have a heat treat oven, might just as well heat treat the part 😂
      Using a HSS (or equivalent) feed metal is a good idea though, to have a softer "backing material" that would dissipate better the impact while allowing a hard edge.
      But IMO the AR500 plate is the best way to have a fast and very durable result ...

    If I would ask the old machinist at work to make this piece from start of the video for me on the CNC he would tell me to f*** off and then when forced by management he would buy $10k of tools and take at least one month to get it manually programmed and another month to get first one cut.
    And when asked why he didn't use solidworks cam he would say this is not related with the CNC manufacturer, that in his old days you needed to purchase license from the manufacturer that will then provide proprietary cam software and if we use something else to generate gcode we would break the machine and void the warranty...
