    Kids today will never know the anticipation of these kind of jumps. Days, if not months of waiting, then if you're even able to see it live. For my generation (49yo) this was a big dang deal.

    Robbie not only avenged Bob’s (Evel’s) crash, but the hardly-mentioned crash of Gary Wells.
    Robbie actually landed on the safety ramp, recommended by his dad (or in his case, insisting on).
    It make look like he landed it perfectly......but, Robbie actually landed about 15-20 feet SHORT of the “X” on the landing ramp. The safety ramp literally saved his life.
    True story.

    • @615al4
      @615al4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes sir. His Dad Evel Kneival saved his life by insisting on the 15 ft safety ramp. That was what the big embrace and pat on the back from Robbie to Evel was i would have to say. Both men are awesome. Just think what Evel could have done with a bike like that...... Amazing indeed

    Bravo to Robbie for gettin' it done. I saw his dad in the early 60's at oval sprint car races doing school bus jumps. Evel was legendary - the excitement was intense. Not to take away from Robbie, if his dad had the bike Robbie was on, he also would have got it done. The right tool for the job.

    Remember how Heavy Evel's Bikes were when he jumped
    those things were Tanks.............

    • @gurusson
      @gurusson 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** Interestingly, the mass doesn't matter, just the drag and the launch speed. IT still accelerates towards the ground at 9.81m/s^2. Yes, there's more force on the heavier bike, but that happens to be offset by the fact that it's heavier and thus harder to get moving in the first place. I suspect that Evel probably had a little more room for his launch, and thus, with the same power to weight as Robbie (He probably didn't have as much power, so his power to weight was worse), he'd have a better chance of clearing the gap.
      Of course, Robbies suspension and tyres are probably what made the difference.

      +Grizzly Boxing BIG BEAR the Bonneville triumph was just over 650 ibs. dry. my pops had two. the shocks were ridicules for anything other than a relatively smooth ride, for say, no more that 2 hundred miles, tops, then you were sore because of the stiffness. they were road shocks, considered enough for the last of the "thumper" bikes. he was crazy for trying to jump those old dinosaurs.

      +spectacular cycle jumps: hope you remember our last conversations about the Michigan crash? ok, more info for you. Dave Diles years before this was first a local weatherman for ABC, (channel 7 here) in the Detroit area for many years, and went on to be the sportscaster on the same channel after that. everybody loved him. it was alarming to see Evel chew his ass up, for us locals that knew him. and he still didn't back down? my dad had two triumph 650 Bonneville's of course blue, and besides being brave enough to try to (12yrs.old) start them for him,(the compression would often almost break my leg it seemed) the shock system was like Fred Flintstone, ridicules. Evel was certifiably crazy on that shock fact alone.

      Big difference is power to weight ratio. Second thing is suspension travel is much more than what that old Harley had. Plus he had bias ply tires crappier brakes and I'm sure his bike weighed more than 400lbs. Also the Harley wasn't designed for jumping. The dirt bike was. Sure be enough differences right there.
