This week I have my long awaited doctors appointment and I get to see a physio for my injury. I am still not running and I also think I made it worse at my day out at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour 😫 I am so excited to get back out running! Is this the start of the end of the my injury?! 🤞
Thank you so much for watching! Make sure to subscribe for more and hit the like if you enjoyed 😀🫶🏻 #motivation #running #vlog #weekly #injured
Honestly these injury vlogs have been helping me deal with my own running struggles this year. I was training for my first full marathon and everything was going so well but then, I live in Northern Canada and the heat this summer for the entire month of July has been insane, 35 degrees almost every day for weeks. On top of that, we’ve had a ton of wildfires which made the air quality terrible and not really safe to run in. I was able to keep up with shorter runs at indoor tracks but haven’t been able to do a single long run and I’ve had to call it quits for the marathon this year and I’m gutted.
It’s been helpful to watch your vlogs and remember that it’s ok to have plans change and be disappointed. I’ll get back there when the time is right. My training has always been for life and longevity (and mental health) far more than one single race event so this is just a bump in the road and nothing more.
Runners for life! Haha
I hope you’re ok! That sounds awful with the heat and wildfires ❤️ It’s so lovely to know my videos are able to help you. I’m so sorry your marathon goal has been ended early this year, that must be SO tough 😔 Let’s both agree that these set backs are going to make our next events even more special!! 🙌🏼🏃🏻♀️
All athletes get injuries, and sometimes have to sit out for weeks or months. And you are definitely an athlete! Thanks for sharing the realities of injury in real time. It's a good reminder that it's all part of the learning and growing process. And not to get political, but let's hope things start to improve for the NHS from here on out, not just for you but for everyone!
I was really worried my injury vlogs would put people off watching me so it’s really nice to have this comment 😀🫶🏻 I really hope the wait times for people improve. Sadly I think this kind of wait isn’t that long compared to some other departments 😔
You ARE important and you ARE an athlete!
Lucy, a smile came to my face as you ended the video. You ARE a somebody, and deserve to live in your body in the best possible way. Hope you start to feel better soon! See ya on the trails 🏃🏽♀️
Thank you so much 😊❤️🏃🏻♀️
You are an important person. You are doing amazing things and should never doubt yourself. You are worth it!
Thank you so much! 🫶🏻
I am so pleased you are now moving forward with your injury. There is nothing better than feeling that you actively helping it rather than that not knowing what to do to get it right!
I finally feel like that is where I am too. I always go straight to a physio when something comes up so that I can get on road to recovery as quickly as possible. Unfortunately this time, I don’t think physio knew what was wrong and I have been left floundering since. Tried out a friend who does natural therapy and finally noticing a difference.
Yes you’re right 🙌🏼 I don’t feel so alone with it now and I can be told what to do lol. Oh that’s so nice to hear! I hope it continues to get better for you! 🫶🏻🏃🏻♀️
Ooo, tape and accupuncture? Sounds promising!
So glad you are in such qualified, knowledgeable, kind hands.
Those stretches look very safe.
Yay for the biking girls! 🤩
Your Matt has to be in a major headspace prepping for this!
Whatever part of this goal he accomplishes (hopefully he wont get called out during!) will be what a VERRRRRY SLIM number of people ever do. Ultras are so elite. Attempting back to back to...however many he is going to do is beyond that. Cheering for it!
Keep that 6 hour challenge on the back-burner. Bring a spare pair of shoes and a few fresh pair of socks and your fave snacks/hydration drinks. My oldest did a 3-hour and set a State record for his age group a year or so ago, and it was a lot of fun! Keep it "cooking" with your other goals is my vote!
Way to realize that PROPER MEDICAL CARE IS FOR EVERYONE. Great message to share! ❤
Fingers crossed this gets me back running soon! 🤞😊 Matt is getting himself all ready, new trainers and extra tailwind have been arriving at the house 😂 Not long now and he’ll be doing this crazy event. Thank you 🫶🏻
Love to you Lucy!! Can’t wait to see your come back after this injury!! So glad you’re finally got a diagnosis and a treatment plan. It’s going in the right direction ❤
I can’t wait to see it too 😫😅 Thank you ❤️❤️
I'm glad they have gotten to the bottom of the issue and that they can target the specific problem! good luck in your recovery!
I feel like I can finally work towards some real results 🤞Thank you ❤️
You will run again and you will be so happy when you get out for that first run. Hang in there.
I can’t believe it’s been this long. Thank you! ❤️❤️
I’m glad you’ve gotten a diagnosis and have some exercises to do to help you. Getting injured sucks, and I definitely feel your pain. I tore a ligament in my ankle January 2023, which meant crutches and a boot for weeks. Then I followed that up with shin splints once I got back to training. But I put in the physio and the work, and I made it through and was able to run my first half marathon in January this year. It takes TIME and patience, but you can do this. I’m so happy for you that you’ve finally gone to the doctor and are getting physio.
Wow you really went through a hard time! How inspiring that you did your first half marathon after such a long recovery 🙌🏼 Thank you! 🫶🏻
I used to feel like I wasn’t really worthy of medical care - “I’m not that special / don’t want to waste their time / other people are more important” kind of thing. I went several years without ever seeing a doctor, and I really should have (and could have, if not for the mental block), and there were some health consequences from that.
I would really strongly encourage anyone with this feeling to work on directly addressing it in the way you talk to yourself and value yourself. And deliberately override this resistance every time it pops up to try to stop you from going to a doctor, and just make yourself go. You ARE important and you DO deserve care, just as I do! ❤
Also, physiotherapy is definitely worth paying for if you can afford it. Whenever I’ve gone to a physiotherapist for something, it’s been so helpful - the exercises they have given me to do at home have been very effective. They really know their stuff!
❤️❤️
Wish you a speedy recovery, you’re awesome!
Thank you so much! 😀😀
I’m sorry you’re injured. My Achilles is bothering me, too, and you’ve given me the impetus to rest my injury properly. I’ve kind of been just pushing through it. Resting here and there when it’s bad, you know? There’s a huge wildfire in my area anyway, and the air is so smoky and bad. It’s better to rest. We’ll get better. ❤
Also:
You. Are. An. Athlete.
You need and deserve that physio appointment.
Oh no, I hope you’re not in bad pain! Get lots of calf stretches done and extra strength training in that area too. That’s the main advice I was given by the physio. I hope you have caught it nice and early so it can heal soon ❤️ Look after yourself, those wild fires sound scary. Thank you so much for your reassurance 🥹🫶🏻
Aaawwww Lucy hugs and prayers and fingers crossed for you to heal quickly!! Don't worry you will be back to running soon. I'm glad you went to see a physio!! You are a some body and you are worthy too!! You rock and you inspire me to be better!!
Ah thank you so much!! 🥹❤️
Just think of how joyful you’ll feel once you can run again. 😃
It’s all I can think about 😫😅
Lucy!!! Thank goodness you didn’t have to wait 8 weeks could you imagine, your foot would have been hanging off 😂😂 you will definitely appreciate your runs after this journey with your foot. I wish you a very speedy recovery and so pleased you have a plan of action. ❤️
😅😂 It would! I’m going to appreciate every run so much more when I’m back at it. Can’t promise I won’t still be moaning while I’m out running through 😆❤️
Keep it up , I love watching your stuff , you have been inspiring on my weight loss journey including getting me jogging
Ah thanks! 😀 I’m really happy my videos are able to help inspire you 🥹🫶🏻
Oh wow i guessed right about Harry Potter, fair play it looks epic there, so sorry to hear you can't run yet, every day is a day closer to your next run, keep your chin up, the day will come
You did! 😆 That’s a great way to think about it. I’m not sure when that day is but I’m getting closer 🙌🏼
Glad to hear that your recovery is now on the correct path 😄
Fingers crossed I see big difference soon! 🤞🤞
My first visit to the physio was 11/6/24 for Achilles tendinitis. Gave me some exercises, similar to yours.
Slowly it has been getting better and for the last 3 weeks have been walking 5k three times a week as a gauge or how its going. Next step later this week is to increase to 6k and hopefully after another few weeks to 7k. Had 7 appointments so far and still going. Be prepared for quite a few as tendons are slow to repair. Oh, and no insurance here and each appointment is nearly A$100.00 every time but so worth it.
All the best Lucy.
That’s great that you’re getting better, even if it’s slow. My physio said these are such long recovery times 😔 I hope you get back to normal soon! After all this time you deserve to be out of pain 🫶🏻
Lucy, even if you have to take a LOT of time off, you will get your fitness level back WAY WAY WAY faster and easier than it took you to develop it the first time.
This is very true 🙌🏼 I have to keep reminding myself that 😫🫶🏻
It is horrible, that you feel you should not use ressources. First - everybody is "entitled" to care! Secondly: There are people d parting hard, slipping on a beer bottle, needing care. They also get it. Thirdly: You also are a caregiver to your daughter!!! i could go on and on! Plus, you are taking care of yourself by running on so many different levels. But honestly, you should not need reasons! On the other hand I am happy that you are taken care of finally ( I love physios and sportphysiologists - they always have great insights and the best ideas for movements! They also tend to be able thinking out of the box. Plus, I learn so much visiting them. Lucy, i wish you a speedy recovery and I just want to reiterate how happy I am that you keep posting. Pressing thumbs!
Thank you so much. You are so kind and supportive! ❤️ It has been really interesting seeing my physio, she is so knowledgeable 😀
I’ve had shock therapy on my Achilles. It worked really well 👌
That’s so great to be told that! I’m so excited to see the results 🤗
@@lucyshawvlogs Fair warning. It hurts but think of it as a good kind of pain. My foot got stuck in a very heavy door. My Achilles got injured but it wasn’t a problem until I started running. I had three rounds of shock therapy and I still do a lot of exercises before I go fore a run 👌
Thank you for sharing ❤
😊❤️
That Harry Potter experience looked awesome. If I ever make it across the pond, it is on my list. Your GP sounds awesome. One step closer…. I had to wait a long time for a sport med. and then physical therapist in the U.S. So it is a common issue around the world. No experience with shock therapy… if you go that route, I would be interested. Best wishes to Matt on training.
It’s my favourite place 😊 Oh no, it’s awful having such a long wait. I’ll definitely talk about my experience with shock therapy if that’s the road I end up going down. Thank you for your best wishes for Matt, not long now for him 🙌🏼
I don't know if this is helpful but I had really bad issues with my calves at the start of the year, I couldn't even run a k without them cramping up so much I could barely walk, I stated seeing a physio, it was also an achillies issue, I really felt there was no light at the end of the tunnel, it hurt and wasn't getting better but slowly it started to and I managed to start a very moderate running plan, I have now almost built up to 5k and I'm feeling so much better, so there is hope but it's such a difficult journey, I'm sure many of us can relate, just keep going with it :)
This is definitely helpful! My left calf has been a nightmare and both the gp and physio have said they’re also part of the problem. It’s really reassuring to know your history with it! It does feel never ending 😫😅
How’s that dusty exercise bike looking Lucy? Are u allowed to at least ride that to try to help with relieving some of that built up frustration? Hope ur back out in the wild soon
😂 It’s been dusted off 🚴🏻♀️ Yes I’m allowed to train on the bike and the physio has stressed I need to do extra strength training in my legs. I’ve got the confidence to get it done now that i’ve been told by her 😅 Thank you, I hope so too 🫶🏻
