      Zeredek no thats not truth.. this is what european exlplores make you know to protect patriotism.. im reality berber and turks where the first to reach "new world" check piris reis map of the world with south pole included.. that was before the "discoveries"... why portugal and spain were the first europeans to go on colonies? Because before portugal and spain this was alandalus and was conected to north africa.. sailors depart from lisbon and algarve much before the portugal kingdom foundation.. but if this comes to know all the mystic and heroic side of history will decay... history is much more than myths , and in west we are used to be brainwashed... peace from portugal

    • @jorgejustin461
      @jorgejustin461 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @Duarte the map in question was created in 1510 and USED the map of Columbus as a source. Barbary Corsairs from North Africa were known to raid as far north as Iceland BUT if they had gotten to the new world there would be people in Africa with Native American heritage, which there are not. The Turks never really ventured out of the Mediterranean, Black, Red and Persian Seas with a few exceptions. There are a few conspiracy theories that maybe the Romans found South America as they did colonise the Canaries but an expedition like that would have been recorded and mentioned in some Roman writings, which it isn't. Lastly, the Nordic bois discovered the 'New World' first as far as we know, and they did it long before the Portrogeus. We are not brainwashed in the west, just well educated.

    @NateRiversforRever 9 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    There was one thing on your grading that I disagreed with, can't seem to remember it, but I feel that it should be mentioned that the Indians are a good support civilization, probably perfect for the pocket. While they don't get knights, light cav/hussar is a good raiding unit, and camels are the perfect anti-cav unit, which would counteract the opposing team if they produced knights.
    Also, I love the breakdown you did for the explanation of camels being ships. That was the greatest breakdown ever!

      @sauravtripathi4128 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      There is obviously no comparison.
      Saracen Heacy Camel vs Indian Imperial Camel:
      HP: 170 vs 160 (10 HP for Saracen is not great considering the following)
      Attack: 7+4 vs 9+4
      Armor: 3-4 vs 4-5 or 3-5 (later on)
      Cool look vs cooler look
      Obviously the Indian one is better, especially against pierce units (includes defensive buildings too because of that +3/+3 vs std bld/bld - team bonus)

    I think the nice thing about the elephant archer is you can wade into areas threatened by building fire more then normal archers can. If you had a standard archer combo with siege, if you pushed heavy into a defended town with towers and castles the archers would get shredded by the buildings leaving your siege venerable to infantry. They are also seam like a strong counter to horse archers.

    Here's my thoughts on the Elephant Archer: It has a better rate of turnover than an Arbalest does, similar to the War Wagon, and has a lot more resilience to enemy ranged attacks, especially to Onagers. Onagers will utterly annihilate Arbalests and Hand Cannoneers, but Elephant Archers can take a hit or two. Also, if your opponent doesn't have Halberdiers, they can be good as a tanky archery unit.
    Lastly, Elephant Archers are less vulnerable to cavalry attack, as their durability lets them survive long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

    • @Tocaraca
      @Tocaraca 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except knights deal bonus to them due to having +0 attack against Archers and Elephant Archers have a -2 Archer Armor meaning they take +2 from Knights... ;-;

    • @darkdill
      @darkdill 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even with that bonus damage, Elephant Archers are going to survive longer against cavalry attack than Arbalests will (Arbs die pretty quickly to cavalry).

      This would matter if elephants had much higher attack to hit back with, thus cavalry mostly will always win 1v1. Higher HP matters only if you actually WIN against some cavalry, which they don't.

    There is another small difference between Elephant Archers/Warwagons and a generic Heavy Cavalry Archer. While a heavy cav archer does 1 Dmg against buildings (Saracens are the exception) Elite Elephant Archers do 4 Dmg and Elite Warwagons do 5 Dmg, so they not only have a lower turnover but an equally sized army is much more dangerous to buildings (even if its nothing compared to Infantry or heavy Cavalry)

    1.) Check for gold production if U have Spanish and Aztecs as allies
    2.) Most Important in a 1 v 1 Saracens Camels group vs 1 v 1 Imperial Camels what is the impact?
    As per your ratings I see Indians as a weak Civilization, but I find them Flexible Civ just like Byzantine. However, ur calculations are way better than mine.

    • @SpiritOfTheLaw
      @SpiritOfTheLaw  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheRedBaron Their gold production would be off the charts with Spanish and Aztec allies haha.
      Are you asking about Saracen mamelukes vs imperial camels? I feel like I'm misreading the second question.
      If I can put it this way,I wouldn't trust myself playing Indians in a ranked game at this point, but I'd definitely use them in an unranked fun game just to mix things up. I think the comparison with the Byzantines makes sense, although there's something a bit more scrappy about the Byzantines and their cheap trash that I love :) It's too bad they already used up a cheaper camel civ bonus on Byz, because that probably would have been nice for the Indians. -25% or -33% cost would make Indians really competitive in the Castle age, I think.

    For what it's worth, knights get a seemingly unintended +2 damage to elephant archers. This is because the knight line has a +0 anti-archer bonus, so that it can be modified into +2 by the Persian team bonus, while the elephant archer has -2 armour against anti-archer attacks, which is presumably intended as a skirmisher buff. Persians' and their teammates' knights, naturally, get to double down on this and do +4.

  • @oscarblack7624
    @oscarblack7624 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have found that the elephant archers only really work for me in two scenarios.
    -firstly, on masse. If you are able to successfully boom up and get enough castles and importantly TIME to get a critical mass of these bad boys, not even siege onagers can stop them, unless with superb micro or the right civ with bonuses accordingly. In 1&1 games, not a recommend strategy for obvious reasons. You would be dead befell you got enough of them out. In team games however, if you are luckily the pocket as Indians, this can be a incredibly powerful army that can potentially win you the game.
    -secondly. I found that when playing with Indians 1&1, mixing elephant archers through a ranged ball of units, crossbows, skirts, they compliment the units around them well soaking up so much dmg, especially against comparative ra get army's. This is interesting as it gives a 'tanks edge' to an otherwise weak army comp. onagers will kill the rest of your army but allowing the ele archers ( character limit)

    • @oscarblack7624
      @oscarblack7624 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      To take the damage while you micro the rest of your army can work quite well. Of course it is best to have some from of infantry shield at the front as with and ranged army but this army Como, with the intermittent ele archer is a fun one to play around with

      Exactly! Same role as the Korean War wagon. It is a weird unit, doesn't have a super obvious niche in combat, but is very useful when utilized properly. If you boom right and build a huge army, by mixing in about a dozen or more Indian elephants it makes your army nearly impossible to stop. They just soak up so much damage that it is nearly impossible to defeat them.

      Attila The Anti-Revisionist
      Except that why would you want a slow, expensive archer that barely outdamages an arbalest and has lesser range? Did you play test them against some cavalry where they came out on top? Even the war wagon has a decent movement speed and hits harder than the elephant archer.
      People whine about the war elephant being too easy to counter and too expensive, but they don't realise that war elephant kills most things at melee even when outnumbered. It makes sense that it is super expensive. It has super hp, one of the highest base attack among UUs, and great armor rating. War elephants soaking up damage is helpful because it means they can outlast their counters and, you want to kill them quick, because which unit wants to take 20+4 damage in the face(not even FU pallies want to directly engae with these guys) while elephant is taking more than 100+ damage from 3 halbs at a time.

Better rename the title as "The unforgotten empires" because if so, we wouldn't know them.

    i like to use elephant archers in a way similar to normal ones
    as a supporting unit getting some hits in on the enemies in the front who are fighting my melee units
    the point is that elephant archers are super tanky compared to foot archers and wich a bunch of monks healing them it can be very hard for the opponent to break the stalemate unless he uses super high range stuff like cannons

  • @srinitaaigaura
    @srinitaaigaura 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Indians' main strength was historically -- elephant cavalry, infantry, archers, skirmishers. There was also something called a mace that could deal heavy damage to buildings and people -- a mace warrior? In antiquity there are plenty of tales of old chariot warriors -- that would have been interesting -- lots of HP, speed, range and the option to go on foot if the chariot broke. They didn't have that heavy cavalry and I think camels aren't that strong.
    Except for the South Indians, their Navy was really weak or non-existent and they had very limited artillery. The South Indians had a powerful navy and went as far as Indonesia and Cambodia. But other than the naval weakness of the North Indian kingdoms, they made good researchers.
    Do they get crop rotation?
    By the way, why this theme selection for the Indians?

      @@JJ-fn2xj Not sure if OP was referring to the geographical limits or "North Indian" kingdoms. The former doesn't make much sense - it's hard to have a navy when there's no ocean around. That's like saving that the Persians didn't really have a great navy in Bactria - technically true but it's landlocked so that's quite expected. South India is a peninsula - water on three sides - while North India really doesn't have much exposure to the oceans. However, Indian empires seldom adhered to these North-South boundaries and had navies in the South. Smaller kingdoms in the North would've only had water for either riverine warfare or in areas like Bengal, Sindh and Gujarat, depending on which kingdom you're looking at. On the other hand, pan Indian empires, like the Cholas whose influence extended from South India to parts of North India, had a powerful navy.

    • @srinitaaigaura
      @srinitaaigaura 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chronikhiles Dude, I currently LIVE here. I know what I am talking about. Yes the Cholas had a powerful navy and should actually be a separate civ unto themselves. India is a diverse country and needs more than one civilization to properly represent it. Actually I would have liked it if like the Trebuchet, the Indian elephant could switch between archery attack to melee attack. The Perisan war elephants came from India. Also the steel used in European Swords came from South India too. I also would have added a "cash crop" Tech to the Indian economy, this country was among the richest in the world during the medieval period.

    • @SpiritOfTheLaw
      @SpiritOfTheLaw  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      David Wolf I imagine elite elephant archers would win easily against heavy cav archers because of the pierce armour, but a Hun player would be crazy to take that fight, and could avoid the elephants without too much trouble. Cav archers probably come out on the field in early castle age and disappear before the elephant archers are out, though

    • @davidvondoom2853

      Still might be a good way to keep calvary archers at bay (if they are still in play). Keep them around vulnerable eco, to prevent raiding and use them as a deterrent. Skirmishers can manage the same thing though, i suppose. I'm just trying to find a use for them! lol

      David Wolf The Huns are a rather bad late game civ. They are only used so much, because of their early game bonuses, so when the indian bonus against them comes into play, most civs shouldn't have that much of a difficulty dealing with the huns!
