    My first car was a 2004 1.8 passed down through the family. It had a fair amount of problems, not gonna lie. Less than my 07 corolla. The AC would break every summer, interior bits would crumble, power window motors would go out, plastic both in and outside the car would break and create a ton of rattles, so so many little problems that add up and sour the experience of driving. It just felt incredibly cheap. Engine ran like a clock though. They're zippy, road hugging little cars. They're one of the best first cars, and one of the better choices sub 5k. It's what got me into cars and got me through high school and college up until being donated to a tech school at 194k because I couldn't deal with the lack of AC. They're the last good normal Nissan vehicle.

    I had a 1998 Sentra GXE for 19 years, bought new in July '98, auto. transmisson. It never let me down. I didn't put a ton of miles on it, but as you said here, it got great gas mileage, was inexpensive to maintain. I sold it to a friend for $1600 over a year ago, and they are still driving it. I live in the mountains in Colorado, and kept snow tires on it year round, it did great in snow with front wheel drive. I replaced it with a 2015 Honda Civic LX 4 door , manual transmission (my first car was a Honda Civic).

    • @kyle-kelliher
      @kyle-kelliher  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      aside from the civic having a manual and being a more modern car, do you think its much better than the sentra?

    • @307billy
      @307billy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well so far it's been great, but I have only put about 4500 miles on it in the first year (bought at 2 years old, certified car with only 9,000 miles on it) I would say it is more comfortable - more leg room (I am six feet tall), more comfortable seats. One thing I liked better about the Sentra was it was easier to see out the back window. The Civic is up higher for the back shelf, so I have to kind of raise myself to get a good view rearward. It does come with a backup camera and small screen, but I like to look back there myself). I would say the quality is very good in the Civic. Not sure if I would say it is better, the engine of the Sentra was rock solid. I like how smooth and quiet the engine on the Civic is, I would say acceleration could be better, but it does the job, and the manual is a pleasure to shift. I am glad I got the manual vs the CVT. I drove a CVT 2015 Honda CR-V and also a 2015 Civic with CVT , and they were weird, with delayed reaction when you pushed on the accelerator.

    38 miles per gallon?? I drive my 03 sentra like a grandma 1.8 112k best ive got is 29.3 mpg with a/c off and all and the 1.8 is the way to go anyways the qg18de is just as reliable as the vq30de and dek. Good thing about the 1.8 forged rods from factory but thats all we have going for us in that department. But overall the sentra 1.8 is the best bet for reliability over the 2.5 qr25de prone to head gasket failure also the 1.8 has a good rep for head gasket failure also buuut not as prone.

    • @kyle-kelliher
      @kyle-kelliher  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on what color you want. But, i would strongly discourage spending the money to change the color on a car like this. It’s an economy car. It defeats the purpose to put money into it that isn’t necessary.
