Carly's scanner and free version of the app with standard OBD features are compatible with cars that have an OBD2 port. To see if Carly's advanced features - like coding or manufacturer-level diagnostics - should work with your car, make sure to check out their website. To access these additional features, you'll need to get their yearly license.
This car should've been the cover art for Midnight Club: DUB Edition. I just bought this 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS55 AMG with an insane sound system, laid out on 20s with Brabus wheels. It doesn't get anymore DUB Edition than this.

Cool tool. I could see overnighting that to a seller before purchasing. What a great way to know what you’re getting into.
Carly sucks. Try another code reader and you'll see different codes. It's not correct with Benz codes. Try coding you'll brick the cls

The first gen CLS will always be my favorite German money pit
Second Gen is quite reliable and healthy actually
in Europe they are not that expensive to fix, parts are everywhere
There not money pits there reliable
FYI, the Sensotronic/SBC brake actuator has an extended warranty to 25 years/unlimited mileage
True.... just had the SBC replaced on my W211 E320 wagon under warranty!
Disconnect the subs and amps and drop in new batteries while youre waiting for new tires, clear the codes and drive around and see what codes pop back up... itll make your drive back to Kansas less nerve-wracking
"Did i make a huge mistake? - Brother, what could possibly go wrong!!😄😁
I can't think of a single thing
The old dealership sent the car off to an “independent “ shop trick… just an fyi the dealer pay 300 for a blank sheet of paper so they can pawn off their nightmare trades onto unsuspecting customers, and have plausible deniability if they get sued. If your shop is having a hard time covering the overhead, a dealer sending over 10-15 cars a month at 300 a pop is not a bad arrangement
Carly dosnt work on Mercedes like it does on bmw or Vag products
Don’t waste your money
@@chrisvectra5296I’ve used Carley on many of my MBs with zero issue.
That's why you should always be picking the mechanic who does your PPI, if the dealer is recommending the shop it's not really independent.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds I have the Carly unit on the Mercedes it dosnt allow you to code things like it does on BMW or VAG products it only can be used for diagnostic on Mercedes
Hence don’t waste your money
Ahhh 2006, when you could have your Mercedes Benz in any colour you want as long as it's Silver, Black or White 😅
God I hate silver cars or SUV’s.
Drive past any Mercedes dealership today and look at the color of their vehicles. Not much has changed.
Coz Mercedes has history with Silver from Le Mans as Silver arrows. And Black/white is default colours with lots of manufacturers
My CLS55 is Titanit Red Metallic 😂😂
Mine is black
I bet Alex of LSC would be interested in this car?
i was just gonna say, i know another YTer that is all about the merc nightmares lol. def need to collab with LSC and some mods
You forgot how Alex screwed over Peter huh?
Yup, showed his true colors.@@TrySomeFentanylToday
@TrySomeFentanylToday yeah what happened with that?
@TrySomeFentanylToday How so? You mean when he kicked Peter out because he was using the shop for illegal stuff when Alex was away? Or the accusations Peter's dealing with involving people under 18 years old? Be careful who you're defending if you don't have the facts.
I remember the dub edition cars as a kid especially the Escalade suvs and trucks
Great video. Great purchase. This is what JR does best, diagnose and fix things. “Gap is so big, call the cops“ funny!
The CLS is built on the E Class chassis. Just clear the codes & drive it bro
Welcome to the 2006/7 CLS world. I Have spent a year fixing faults on mine and they just keep on coming. If I did not love the look of this car so much I would have probably set it on fire by now. I Have put in more money in parts than I paid for it, but keep hoping that it will be sorted after every fault that I had to repair. Mine is the CLS 550 naturally aspirated M273 engine.
11:53 That headunit knows what you're thinking about the car, deep down.
Finally!!!!!! The best damn engine Mercedes ever made!!! I have an E55 AMG and it has been my absolute favorite car. I drive it damn near every weekend!!!
John, that ABS pump was probably replaced under warranty or recall, since the brake-by-wire issues made Mercedes offer a 25 year warranty to save face.
I realized it was covered under the insane brake warranty right after, not a big fan of how these brakes stop 😬
Greetings from Nashville... if there's one constant in the universe, it's that auto dealerships will always try to screw you over, one way or another.
As a w211 CDI owner (I’d say its a tie with the 55 as the best the engines these cars ever got, followed by the 6.2 N/A monster) which this car essentially is with a different body and interior, all this stuff is pretty minor really. My Drive Dynamic seats have never worked properly and randomly come on and off as they see fit, I don’t care enough to mess with it. Though my heating and cooling is flawless which once you get the control panel sorted out should be fine also. SBC has a 25 year no charge recall/warranty mine was just replaced. Be extremely careful with this if it’s already throwing faults… on my car one day I lost half my braking capability and what little was left pulled my vehicle into the adjacent lane at a stop light 😮. If it’s rust free, the engine and trans work great, the suspension isn’t trashed and you got it for the typical JR deal… you did fine. Just for the love of God don’t sell it to Alex. Dude gets everyone else’s projects for a steal then spends entire videos showing us how lucky he is it all worked out with “this one little fix” which honestly just got old after the 200th time. If he’ll collab with you to get the issues sorted, that’s different of course. But I think you can nail a lot of it yourself.
no, no no. He should sell it to Alex, then sit and watch him fix it, and we get to see JR's reaction.
@@ng-ht1vx now this I could potentially go for 🤣
I already fixed everything… but Alex wants it and I love working with him 🤔
@@WatchJRGo sell it to alex i would his to see what he does with it i own a cls55 amg also in silver
Excellent video and amazing car! Can’t wait for the next one!
Always loved the CLS, glad to see real world experience content instead of just marketing hype videos. Looking forward to seeing the fixes
Man I love the CLS Benz. The body style when it came out was so friggin awesome looking. I would love to have one if I won the lottery or something, since that would be the only way to afford the maintenance.
I have one, but I do all my maintenance. It's actually pretty easy to work on! Only downside I've found is how low the engine sits, kills your spine hunching over the engine. But I've been from Maryland to Missouri and back in it, and many thousands of miles more. Been fantastic, and no more expensive than my Tahoe to repair. Great car!
Would be cool to see you and Alex from LSC work on this. Would make a good video series.
Just grab a new battery for it along with the tires, I know how temperamental my '01 VW Passat gets when the battery starts getting low so I'm sure being another German car it's probably just the lower voltage of an old battery.
Good looking car with more speakers than the last theater I went to. Looking forward to seeing you troubleshoot the issues. Have a safe trip home!
Those Brabus wheels are slick
Should get a Brabus SmartCar for giggles on the channel
I love big stereos… used to compete in IASCA when I was a lot younger. Now I build systems for sound quality, not SPL.
I kept slowly upgrading the stereo in my Dart when I finally decided I was sick of the factory am radio once I really started driving it. Grew to a Sony ES receiver, 2 12"s in 5 gallon buckets driven by a 150 watt a side soundstream amp, 8" woofers in the 6x9 spots, nice soft dome tweeters with 75 a side Alphasonic amp, up front Polk 5 inch package with the separate mid/tweeter module on the pillars and another Alphasonic 50 in the glove box. It sounded excellent and could thump if the music called for it. Old stuff now but that's when I was building it up as deals and ideas came up. The subs had a electronic crossover I found too that helped dial them in just right. My lil sisters Audiophile hubby was impressed with the sound when I finally got him to listen to it. I too went more for the sound I wanted even then, but of course it could get louder then anyone could take if that's what they wanted.
I had a 1000 cca battery and the old school huge Mopar cop 100 amp alternator from the mid 70s to keep up with it.
I haven't built anything like it since.
This is the kind of stuff I love to see you do.
I spent many hours on midnight club dub edition and I don’t think I ever drove the CLS 😂
you missed out. it's easy to overlook, but the cls55 amg handles phenomenally well in the game. It's one of the cars that'll give you a huge gap just because it goes through turns really well. I've used it on several playthroughs, and it surprises me every time.
I have a cls55 AMG. Brilliant car
My philosophy is if it's a coupe it has a rear wiper. One of the things I hate about Mercs, is the parking brake system. They could have just used a single handbrake lever, but no, they have another pedal which you've got to press, then to release you pull a lever under then dash. Apparently they are switching to an electric system, looking forward to seeing one of them, and how it works.
The electronic system has already been around for years
are you really that lazy?
Verify for signs of water infiltratrion from the windshield; many of the electrical gremlins you''ll find will be caused by that including parasiticdraws and issues with the electric windows.
I think this car was garage kept, I’m only the 4th owner 😳
Nice..... That's going to be sweet after you get the bugs worked out of it. While you are waiting for two days
to get your new tires put on, maybe you can get a few more speakers and amps installed 😂
I would have liked to hear that system when it was new. Fortunately they put adjustments in for the subs because
usually the bass in systems with that many speakers over powers everything, and they sound very unnatural and crappy.
After you replace the tires and sort out the battery issue, you should be fine to drive back.
Replace the accessory battery in the front. Should be under the AC filter.
that was a dope game back in the day...
I played it for hours.. and had all kinds of cool cars
I want that brick surface lot for my driveway at my mid-century modern so bad!
Each time you show the parking lot I can’t even see the Mercedes.
For $120 yard minimum plus labor, I think that is getting to be less of a splurge versus Concrete .
I literally pulled into that parking lot and said "I think this is the most expensive parking lit I've ever seen"... had to be $500,000 in brick 🧱
Are bricks really that expensive in the US? (I'm from Europe)
Bricks are cheap, relatively. labor to install and maintain is very expensive.
@@MauriceNL1I was just thinking the same, they use cobblestone and brick all over Europe and not just in older areas that had it done in the past. My uncle in Germany moved into a new built neighborhood in the early 2000's and it has brick lined parking and sidewalks. Grew up in U.S. but go visit extended family every few years and have seen this everywhere I've gone over there.
In U.S. they just tend to line everything with concrete. It's easy, fast and low skill job I guess.. The old neighborhood I used to live in had brick streets built in 1910. When they went to replace the sewer lines in the 80's they put the brick down and didn't even follow the dark brick from the light brick grouping they had before and just mixed it all up and couldn't even lay it down smoothly. To this day when I visit you can still clearly see where they tore up the street from the rough brick uneven surface and mixed up color. The contractor clearly didn't know how to deal with brick, and maybe if it had been done today they would have been required to get a proper brick laying contractor to finish the job. People were upset at the shoddy job.
That cruise control stalk really isn't too bad, it's quite nice once you're used to it. The Chrysler LX family of vehicles shared a lot between a few Mercedes platforms of the time and I've just been noticing multiple similarities in this video
I definitely see a lot of Mercedes in my Magnum RT.
It’s the easiest cruise control I’ve used in any car I’ve ever owned
Well, that's an SL front grille which explains the gap. Missing the Mercedes emblem trim that covers the supercharger? Hopefully, when you fix the 12volt wiring that fried it will bring the other controls back online as I imagine they're on the same circuit. Good find! 🥂
Corvette vs CLS race in Mexico ✌️
Not sure if you’ve left Nashville already, but it might be wise to try to hit up a junkyard and find a trashed out wheel with a good tire on it that will fit. Just in case.
I can't wait to find out how much house wiring and how many drywall screws are in this thing
I bet it’s had oil changes every 50,000 miles, whether it needed them or not.
loved that game
If my memory isn't failing me, the number of doors on a car does not define a coupe or a sedan. A coupe does not have a window frame, so when the windows go down only the door is left. A sedan on the other hand has a frame surrounding the window and is still present when the window goes down.
The 58 Impala was a two door sport coupe and the 58 Chevy BelAir and DelRay were offered as a two door sport sedans.
I have a mercedes sports coupe, its a 3 door with tailgate, but the doors have window frames
@@jdmaxi187 you have a hatch. not a coupe
Thst isn't a seal. Those are just decrotive trim. The seal for the windshield and backlite are urathane beneath the glass.
The rubber moldings just were there to prevent you seeing behind the glass when that look was popular.
Great looking CLS55, grill needs to go for sure. Sound system looks amazing. The SBC pump is probably replaced by the dealer as those should be covered by a 25 year warranty or something like that by Mercedes.
Nice car if everything works...... Alex would love to work on this one.
A real beauty, hope it's not to far gone!
It is crazy how that bodystyle went from unique to mundane in a decade. But I love now how another fast Mercedes can just blend in.
When I first sat in a friend’s modern Mercedes and saw the interior lighting gradually fade on I was blown away.
It's about time you have a membership option. I've been waiting for this for over a year. Glad I can contribute a little in a very painless manner.
Thank you for joining!! 💯
@@WatchJRGoI would suggest a full year option for a discount, I hate monthly payments for everything, if you have a lot of subs going on it starts to be a lot of money, once and done for me.
good choice man, I had a 2006 cls500, now I have an 07 s65 and an 08 e350 4matic for snow days, best of luck brother, beautiful Benz
Remember, most codes are just caused by a flat battery. Welcome to the M113 club!
This is the first time I’ve ever been jealous of a youtuber’s car. I want it so bad. Sell it to me when you’re done with it, please.
THE NOSTALGIA, my dad had 17 or 18in replicas of those wheels on his gold c320
The Brabus VIs look so good you'd think they were factory 😳
i wont lie, i do be watching JR go
I thought I smelt something cooking in the way of a new acquisition.
Been there and done that with a few of the problems you have with the car. Undervoltage can cause a bunch of these systems to go into protection mode. replace the batteries, and I think there's a aux battery as well. Clear the codes, and many of these things will likely work again.
On the brakes, reset the SBC activation numbers. Maybe reinitialize the SBC pump.
You likely have a lot fewer problems than you think.
Recently, I bought a mercedes at auction with a dead battery. Was laughed at at the auction (farm equipment auction) about getting it onto a trailer. I swapped the battery which they didn't think was possible, cause the battery was under the seat, and drove the suv onto the trailer. There were about 270 error codes, with almost all of them being voltage related issues. all but 2 cleared. One is a legit problem with the ignition module, and I don't remember the other one.
I'm surprised the dealership would even be allowed to sell a car with bubbles in the tires.
The Wizard is around there somewhere, you should stop by.
OH NO.. Good luck on the trip back home - What is your plans?
Glad you are back to interesting car content. Tearing apart vehicles to part them out is NOT interesting.
Yes there are other channels for that... Scraplife. I Do cars ect.
Ah yes. Ze German AU Falcon.
Hiya JR. What a lovely car. I think it will get you home without a bother. Have faith lol. I would buy this Car off you today if you can get it over to Ireland Hahaha. I hope you hold onto it for more content. It's such an Interesting Car. Great video bro 😅🇨🇮❤
I know you are going to do your own thing, but fixing things is why I watch your channel. The car tours are just not my jam. I will continue to watch all of your fixing content!
I have subs in my 08 cls 550. I’m enjoying this video, this is the cls I wish I had.
Super cool install! those power components are the SHIZNT for sure. I do not believe it was a Rockford build, i see a lot of stinger products used in the install. Rockford has their own brand of wiring and distribution blocks so i would assume if it was their show vehicle, they would have used all Rockford brand products. May have been an audio shop display vehicle in their showroom to promote Rockford. Also, a little e6000 glue on that dust cap and it will be good as new. Never seen a Rockford dust cap come loose on a P3, maybe they got the coils super-hot before and the glue just released over time.
Wait till you see why the sub amp didn’t work… pretty sure they beat on it till the car almost caught on fire 😳 but this was a display in Rockfords CES booth
Thats killer! Finding them older car audio show vehicles is getting harder and harder. I have some old school Rockford wiring and RCA's still if you end up needing any let me know. @@WatchJRGo
Love it! Engine is assembled by F. De Giuseppe, same as mine ;) I bet it’ll come back to life with new batteries and a code delete, Mercs hate low voltage
My builder too
Have a nice drive back John.
You have to pay for the Carly service for real tests. They are not free.
carly kind of sux dont waste ur time it takes forever to scan and its mainly bs have to pay for everything seperate....things usually dont work on most cars...and it can mess up your electronics beware
Please keep this car!!!! I need to know how to make it perfect because I’m dreaming of either a cl63 AMG. The cls 55 or 63 and or E55 or 63
The ONLY song allowed in that car is Big Tymers - Still Fly.
Good Luck 🍀 on your trip
Ive been hunting for a a silver and black interior combo for a min thats clean good find
You're right about the grill not looking stock BUT it might be stock with the vertical bars added onto the stock horizontal bars. Without seeing it in person I can't be sure. It's certainly a different look than factory.
Beautifully car JR, have a great trip
If you're going through Memphis TN stop get ribs and visit the best VW repair shop ever Wolfsburg Automotive. Those guys rock!!
Sounds like typical modern car issues, stick a nice new battery on it and go from there seeing what does and doesn’t work
The CLS55 is a great one year only car. SBC brakes are still under warranty by mercedes
He probably mistook that for the new 'ABC' pump. I have a RHD E500 and the SBC pump is right there.
@@leppie CLS55 doesn't have ABC, it's airmatic so JR is truly confused

Good Evening John Ross
It's rare that anyone ever sells you a car that isn't more broken than you thought, I surprised at this point you weren't expecting a blown engine by now.
Nice! I'm fixing up a R500. Haters say it's a minivan, but Germans say "nein! It's a Grand Sports Tourer". With emphasis on "Grand"
Reliable engine,have you seen LSC,s?
One of my favorite models of Mercedes. I love the shape and body lines
Not gonna lie . This car speakers to me
😂😂😂 nailed it
Wow, John came to his senses! Isn't this more fun than scrappin' old Vettes and Minis?
Our gen 1 cls is at 197k mikes and still pulls like a beast
Spent countless hours on mc3 dub edition remix. Always thought the cls looked so futuristic back then haha
You can do it JR.

You should drive up to chi town and visit alex im sure he could get it all fixed up for you lretty quick he knows mercedes better than anybody
It's the i'm only 45 and i'm getting a hearing aid edition ... :) :(
That is pretty neat history on that car

that Install was def done by a pro. looks a lot like an older Steve Meade Install! (before he made all his own products)
Looks like it was built by a company called Sound Xpression out of Mesa, AZ. I tried to post a link, but TH-cam deleted the comment. It's rocking 20-inch Lowenharts in the period photos on the Portfolio page of their website.
Yeah, comments with links are always auto deleted but I have that page pulled up to… they did insanely good work on this 🔥
It definitely looks like it was done well, I can only imagine what that system cost to install back then with all the custom enclosures and door panels. Looking forward to seeing more of this car on the channel!
i think they were the first to come out with this type of car class
JR joined the 04 Rich gang finally 🎉🎉
I bet everything works. I suspect they boosted the car after the battery died and fried some fuses. A replacement battery for that car is 1000 bucks at the dealer.
😮
I think most of the fault codes will not come back when you clear them, you always get a whole load if the batteries get too low, good old German over engineering. I hope you get back ok, car looks nice, but it never ceases to astound me what people with money will do, if I want a disco, I will put it in my cellar, not my car...
I take it you've given up on your new house....it's been months since any updates. That (and rehabbing your mini-resort) we're a nice change of pace.
I think you’re bringing it up every time he puts out a new video. I have faith that he knows what he’s doing.
Wrong, I just asked today....are you his answer machine or something.
Since he showed it off and talked about for a couple of months, I don't think asking about it's progress was offensive or out of order. You seem to desire to be his protector and mouthpiece, will you be tucking him safely into bed too?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news also those really nice looking wheels are actually Mercedes wheels. They are not authentic Brabus wheels. The Brabus VI whees with studs are 2 piece, there would be 3 bolts between spokes, the spokes are not flush with the inner lip, next to the valve stem it would say Brabus, the valve stem caps would be the size of the volts mad by Hamman and lastly they would have the B center caps. But I do love the look of those wheels
