I’m glad my mama had taste in music! We use to listen to this together. When Mystikal said “my bad Joe” we use to look at each other tapping elbows while she was driving. 😂😂 I love Joe. He was so smooth!

This song is straight fire!! Late 90's-early 2000's hip hop and r&b in general is straight fire, especially collaboration songs like this one. I think this is because hip hop evolved beyond east and west coast, and we got to see styles from a variety of parts of the , country. Also, more personally, when this song came out, I was in my early 20's fresh out of college, living in Miami, on my own for the first time in my life, 3,000 miles away from family. I was going through a lot of turmoil during this time, and trying to find my place in the world. I listened to this song and a lot of other hip hop songs like this one to help me cope. These songs gave me a lot of strength and motivation to work through the things I was struggling with, so I will always have a soft corner for the hip hop and r&b during this time period. Needless to say, today's hip hop is absolute dogshit in comparison!!
You made a pretty good speech there. You didn't have to spoil it with the last sentence. Today's music is great for today's time. it's 2022, cars drive demselves. But thats not crazy to u. Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it trash. Remember you said music evolved between east coast and west coast and greater songs were made. The songs in this generation fits the advancement, and it is also changing the world whether we like it or not. I was about 7 wen this song came out, i heard it 2 to 3 years later. I grew up listening to this great music you are talking about, the artists of today grew up listening too. So what do you think changed?? Can you explain it, or you are just not interesting in the propagation of the culture anymore. Now I am 29, and I say Lil baby is making 2pac proud. Even then there were trashy artist, but music was not global then. Now everyone has a voice, and it's a good thing. Respect🙌
You're right rammemy, but I had to check out Lil Baby as a recommendation from another comment to see if I am missing something. Unfortunately dude just fits the mold of every other modern rapper. Unoriginally putting "Lil" AND "baby" in his name? Check. Mumbled pronunciation? Check. Electronic voice effect? Check. Mediocre lyrics? Check. Nice slow beats for smoking weed to, but lacking any kind of hype or soul to make you wanna dance? Check. It's not really the artists' fault though, it's just the industry rewards whoever sounds similar. Technically everyone would have a voice were it not for the algorithm/big tech strangling a lot of talented people. Hell, it's gotten so bad even rock music is basically non-existent because everything has to sound like modern cookie-cutter hip hop. That's not to say there aren't some good songs but you usually have to search for yourself to find them whereas most people just wait for music to be handed to them. Even mainstream modern movies/shows are suffering too where everything has to be about feminism/female empowerment or gay/trans nonsense. We truly are in an entertainment dark age.
@@maskedbadass6802 🙌🙌 You get it. Also in the past (before TH-cam), industry execs who knew music decided what to release. They were the gatekeepers. And consumers with money and refined taste spent the most on music, so they also kept trash music out. But nowadays it is easy to publish music online (no gatekeeper). And instead of older people with money being a core audience that determined trends, it is almost entirely young people with time on their hands to stream who determine the trends. Attention is the new currency, and they have more of it. So these two factors, I believe, are also why the quality of mainstream music has gotten so awful in the last decade.
@adamsmayy_ big difference now is that today's "top" hip hop is fully owned and controlled by those wishing to influence the youth. Very few are not corrupted. And many that wouldn't sell their soul, are dead. Nipsey as a quick mention. Brent Faiyaz is holding down R&B. Weeknd sold us out. Just look tho, what people's own most record label's. And NBA and NFL teams. Wait until we see what this generation will be like 15 years from now.
Mystikal was on fire during this late 2000/early 2001 period. It's really a shame to see what's going on with him now. Joe was always hella underrated for how good his music usually was.
I randomly remembered this song and searched for it. The joy in my heart when I saw Mystikal and knew that I was in for some crazy shout talking rap was somewhat overwhelming.
I heard the beat of the original song that this samples from (Pharcyde?) and was like "wait, what is the name of that song that sampled this that was hella good?" Then I I went through all the lyrics of this version of the song in my head (I remembered most of them) until I got to the chorus, and was like "stutter!" Then I pulled up that song and jammed to it a few times in my car. Good times lol
Ah, Mystikal and his way too intense ol' self. Coming outta nowhere screaming at the woman in both the song and the movie. Gotta love it. Things were so much more fun in the early 00s.
This is how u combine rap and r&b..i remember i was 15 when this remix hit and hearing Mystikal was on it before i heard the song i was thinking "I don't know" I'd loved Mystikal for years but his style is so brash and abrasive i didn't think it'd fit with Joe but damn was i wrong cuz this shit blends together damn near flawlessly with the Pharcyde sample and as much as i love Passin Me By...this one right here i think i love more... crazy it hit #1 for 4 weeks but it absolutely deserved the success..and overall Joe and Mystikal(just his music of course) are both underappreciated in their respective genres

+It's A Crystal Life people don't know it's been uploaded? It's not like they have the radio and stuff to help promote it. This song is 14+ years old, but has just been uploaded last year. Regardless, I really like this song.
