I'm really mad that I was not taught my language at a young age.... Now it's hard for me and my parents are not persistent when it comes to teaching us.

How do write the following in Igbo? We are friends; Happy Birthday; Happy Easter; Merry Christmas; Happy New Year. Thanks

obu nwoke'm = that's my man/guy/main man obu nwiye'm= that's my girl bff/ my girl.... nwoke madu= the main man. I really can't think of friend ..idk onye oma= good person. Emela/dalu= thank you. all the other stuff are English holidays and traditions so you just say them the say Happy Birthday, Happy Easter, etc.. for instance we don't celebrate Easter in my family. And original Igbo calendar is a little different we had like beginning of yam harvest etc instead of New Year back then

You got it wrong, I, in Igbo is A (with the sound, ah). Me in Igbo, Is mu (with the sound, moo).

Your level of understanding of linguistics may actually be the reason you think that we got this wrong. Sorry, we did not get it wrong at all. What is confusing you is simply the difference between a subject pronoun and an object pronoun. A subject pronoun does the action of the verb while an object pronoun receives it. Consider the sentence: "He (subject pronoun) is looking (verb) at (preposition) him (object pronoun)." That sentence could as well be "I am looking at him" or "He is looking at me". Igbo language has two variants for the English subject pronoun "I". That is why it is correct in Igbo to say either "M bu onye Igbo" or "A bu m/mu onye Igbo." Both are equally right in syntax. The difference between "M" as the equivalent of "I" (English subject pronoun) and "A + verb + M or Mu" as the equivalent of "I" (English subject pronoun) is treated in our upper level courses. This video is actually one of the 14 videos that make up our course 1 at igboteacher.com. "M" or "Mu" is also the Igbo equivalent of "me" (English object pronoun). Again, a subject pronoun does the action of the verb, whereas an object pronoun receives the action of the verb. Do not forget this! I am responding to your comment in order to provide further tutelage to people who use this video to get a basic understanding of Igbo grammar, but this video cannot contain everything we can teach about pronouns. That is why you need to take the full course at igboteacher.com. It is not good for you to just conclude that something is wrong without sufficient knowledge in the area.

Yes, your comment provided an opportunity for me to teach grammar and expatiate on this lesson. But if you would have said "How come you did not discuss ' A + verb' as the equivalent of ' I' in English?", I would have simply responded that this video is part of a complete beginner course and this concept is treated in more advanced lessons. But you simply stated that the teaching in this video was wrong, and that is why I thought it necessary to teach you some level of "basic functional grammar".
