Dearest flower patch lady, thankyou so much,I definitely have to watch again. Xxoh feverfew is another of my favourite s.i have lost count of all my favourites. Your greenhouse s look so enviting,xx.thankyouxx
Good morning, Pamela, Thanks so much for doing this winter sowing video as well as the others. This video is a good reminder to me to prioritize sowing the seeds that need stratification first with the jugs I have available for winter sowing for 2025. I have been using this method off and on for years for my now Zone 6b garden in Northeast Ohio. I’ve had good success - I’ve even gotten Lisianthus to germinate with this method! Happy New Year to you and yours!
I wasn't going to bother and now I am changing my mind. There are a few things I want to try that I don't have in my garden and I want to see how well they do with winter sowing. I just had my sister bring some milk jugs over today.
Good morning Pam. I have never heard of Joe Pye weed. It reminds me of showey milkweed! That verbascum is so beautiful!. Wow so many perennials I have never heard of. Great video!!! Happy New Year! 👍👍👍 Liz
Joe Pye weed is so beautiful! I fell in love with it yrs ago, but have never been able to create an environment fornit to flourish because of its need for consistent moisture. If you have, or can create, the ideal environment for it, I'll say now, I am so jealous! 😊 Btw I was in GA when I tried growing it. Between the red clay and the 90+° summer temps, its a tough environment without massive amounts of labor to amend the soil!
Thank you for the good information on these perennials. You are lucky to have such a nice greenhouse to work in during the winter months. What's the average temperature in there during the winter?
My greenhouse is unheated so more of a glorified cold frame but it is usually the same temp as outside. I only heat it when I am inside working or videoing.
If you cut your Delphinium/flower-stems down to about 12 inches before all the power goes into the seeds of the first bloom, they will always rebloom in the same year. Sometimes you can actually make them bloom 3 times, if you stay at it. The 3rd bloom will look weaker....
Mine don't as I have such a short growing season, by the time they bloom, as we have snows until June, they don't have enough time to rebloom most of the time. So rebloom will depend upon your local growing conditions. I have grown them for 20 years and have only gotten a rebloom a couple times.
Hi Pam! Thank you for this inspiration! Question: If Lady’s Mantle is hardy to zone 3-8, and my zone is 9, does that mean it would die for not having cold winter temps to go dormant?
I hope I’m not talking too much😅But when you mentioned hardy geraniums I had to pop on and say you’re so right!!😳 They self seed like crazy so must be deadheaded. What I love most about them though is the foliage!! Gorgeous leaves for bouquets 🤩💚
No, depending on your local gardening conditions (like how hot it gets in summer) it means you would need to give it more shade. If you were a cool zone 9, like in coastal areas (Mendocino comes to mind) then you most likely could grow it well. The best I can tell you is experiment and see. You might be pleasantly surprised.
I had not thought of the leaves for bouquets. Most of the ones I have, as I said, are sterile hybrids so most don't go to seed. But they are easily root divided to propagate. The nice thing about having to deadhead is it keeps them more tidy.
A friend gave me a root division of the red and the white was a gift from another friend as a 4 inch plant in a pot. The seeds are available from Swallowtail Garden Seeds and others.
I must not have clearly said the name as you are the 3rd person to mention it. It is on the printable list. I erred in not remembering to put the name on the video of it. Sorry about that.
@@ynotjustme2 Actually I had said it but then had to refilm this section because of a sneezing fit. So in my mind I had already said it. So it wasn't the multitasking it was being interrupted and redo.
So sorry for editing out the name of perennial #2, it is FEVERFEW.
Turkeys ate my feverfew!!
You have such a beautiful back drop when you video here; I just love it. ❤️
My little greenhouse is my garden haven in winter. I do love it as well and try to keep it cheerful for my videos.
I love this! I made a southwest salad similar to, but better than, McDonalds. You inspired me. It was delicious!
I haven't had one of those in a long time. Now you made me hungry for one, I will have to mimic it myself here at home.
Pam this is wonderful Thank you! I love Burshart Gardens its so beautiful
Aren't they so inspiring? I could go several times a year if I could afford the time and moolah!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I am so glad you found this helpful.
Winter sowing is the best! Thanks for this list!!
It's the best way to get a lot of flowers or plants on a budget!
The geums were biennials from seed for me. Love winter sowing and excited to get started!
I added that to my blog post about this, thank you for the info!

Wow, lisianthus? That is quite the achievement, congratulations! I am so glad you found this helpful.
Thanks for the list!
You are very welcome, I hope you enjoy growing them!
I’ve got to get my seeds! I’m ready for winter sowing!💚

I tried to list ones that were less known but so beautiful and easy to grow. I missed a couple that are good too but put them on the printable list.

The second perennial is feverfew. Pamela included a printed list in the Description ...more section.
That's what I thought, too. The leaves look a little like chrysanthemum leaves.
Yes, that is Feverfew.
Super ❤😊
I am so glad you liked it!
I think the agastache you lost the name of is Apache sunset. Apparently it makes for a tasty tea.
@@Iamshortstorylong Yes , thank you, that was it!
Do you have any videos dedicated to flowers that are good for cutting (long stems, long vase life)?💐😃
Not yet! But that is something I should work on.

I had great success with WS Verbena Bamptom Baker Creek has seeds
Thank you, I will look at their site and see if any are available right now!
Could you please explain how you winter sow? Outside in ground, in greenhouse?, do you heat your greenhouse? How cold is too cold?
Here is my winter sowing playlist, you can see which one fits your needs: th-cam.com/play/PLxoCLUnRsgdUJFdJDilEJQC7zk4RahwGm.html
Zone 6..n.y..I sow outside in milk jugs..great results

Where did you get the Jupiter's Beard from?

Southern Seed has Jupiter Beard seeds and many are 50% off.
What is the name of the little daisy-like perennial you mentioned (the 2nd perennial)?
I must not have clearly said the name as you are the 3rd person to mention it. It is on the printable list. I erred in not remembering to put the name on the video of it. Sorry about that.
@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Yes you totally omitted the name. I thought it was Feverfew. Maybe don't multitask

What are the dimensions of your greenhouse? 🤔
I'm thinking I might benefit from having one myself.

Mine is 8 x 12 but it comes in 8 x 16, which for me would be better. But I have been mostly content with this size.
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Thank you!

Hello!
Eastern = acid soil not alkaline
Not sure what this relates too but thanks for the info.
