We all want the Pujols pitching SSP but it was a Topps Now card already, so I doubt it's in S1.

I ordered a few hangers just for fun and am really glad about getting a jumbo as well considering the awful odds for retail. I feel like once everyone is done set building with these, which won't take long, these are going to sit around on shelves for ages. The rookie class is really strong, but they print so many that the base cards aren't exceedingly rare or anything like that and the chance of pulling a hit via retail is slim. These may wind up like 2021 Series 1 where you could get a 24 pack retail box for under $50. And why so many landscape cards? Yuck. Aside from that I do really like the rookie class in this, but not including Michael Harris in Update just feels like a disservice to him.
I love the design. I always enjoy getting a hanger box. But if it’s 12.99 for just commons. Is it really worth it?

I opened two boxes of this on my channel, and after watching your first box I've now seen the Guardians followed by the Cardinals team cards three times in a row. I am already tired of that collation

If you look at the odds on the back of the hanger box, it says odds per pack. If the odds of finding a gold card are 1 in 15 as Jabs noted, wouldn't that mean one gold card in every 15 packs, not every 15 hanger boxes? Or am I mistaken?

This has to be my favorite design since 2014 Topps.
I bought 4 hangers today at Target, pulled 2 retail blue, 1 gold, and that was about it. I am probably not going to buy any more retail this year, I do however have 6 x 24 pack hobby boxes on the way, so excited about that.
smelling the cards is always great. Reminds me of 50 years ago getting packs at the candy store on the corner. first ones I started collecting was in 1968. And I have a lot still..been going at it ever since. My first wife got so tired of me collecting and spending time, she left about 22 years ago! Don't even know where she is or what she is doing.
Hobby and jumbo odds are much better
OOOOOOOF! I knew this year's release would be bad but,...this is brutally bad!
5:51 88 Was the year I started…. First pack was a rack pack with a D. Strawberry glossy all star. It was the first set I built. I’ve been collecting the 35 year anniversary series and really excited for this year because as bad as they were then (and now), 88 Topps will always be my favorite! Can’t wait to drop the kids off at school tomorrow and get the the LCS, multiple cases getting opened tomorrow for sure! Tonight is like Christmas Eve!!!
I started in 86, but 88 is when I was buying Topps packs like crazy. I probably have 3 or 4 complete sets just from all the packs I bought of that product. I couldn't get enough of them.
So are they not doing cool image variations this year?
I like the looks of the card, good thing I don't care about inserts. Should I wait for factory set. 🤔

love the design and the face shot on the bottom. Like the 83 and 84 circle and square. more important, the name is easy to read! That is what I like the best~!
I remember feeling iffy on the design when we got a sneak peek at it last year. Actually seeing the cards in action I actually do like it quite a bit. Just going on gut, I think I prefer last year's design a bit, but we'll see once I actually have some '23 in hand. I will say the design lands a different impact with horizontal cards vs vertical. It feels like a design that feels made for horizontal where the lopsided nature of the portrait/logo side naturally slopes down to the other side, whereas that process feels more cramped on vertical, creating that weird dip.
The inserts we've seen so far look fine. The Stars of MLB cards look much nicer-which is good-although agreed that they'll quickly wear out their welcome. Like that Aces insert with the rounded corners. And while I'm not as keen on 88 as I was 87 and 86, it's still a refreshing throwback since we've seen Topps retread that design a lot less. Not sure how I feel about the golds (and presumably all parallels) not extended the parallel to the bottom of the cards. Again might have to see in person to really get a grasp on how I feel about that.
Your going to love this year’s cards I just watched a break card number 1 is Soto card 330 is Rodriguez in topps series 1 I a specially love this year home run challenge cards
Hey guys I’m just started collecting. What do you do with your duplicates? And do you binder all your cards or just special ones like that autographs and numbered.
I dont think anyone collects cards. If it is not a "hit", they go into a box to never be seen again. I use to study each card I pulled. Check out the stats, the bio, etc. But, I am a collector, all football, 1986 and older only.
If you are collecting, building sets that is awesome. For me, I put the best example of each card in a binder, then boxed the doubles.
Your going to want to go with jumbo and hobby boxes this year
So nice that they are giving Pujols a proper last card with full career stats. Dozens and dozens of the greatest players in baseball history don't even get cards after they announce retirement. Some guys don't get cards in their last 2 seasons and never get a full career stat card. This is very sad. Top players should get multiple full-stat career tribute cards. Topps should make a tribute set to fix their stiffing of so many heroes and their fans. It is nice that they do reissues of lots of retired players, but they do the same 40-50 guys, when there are hundreds.
Great video! Love the design! Going to feel like the mid 90s and 2000s looking for hits. Hopefully the blasters will produce a hit or two per case and some good inserts in boxes easier to hit. Thanks for sharing!

Really like the 2023 Topps design. I'm so excited for a new year of baseball related content and also watching to see if my Tigers can make the postseason.

I love the design of these cards and am super excited about the 88 design. I'll have to pick me up a jumbo box or two and have fun going through the packs.
Seems they love throwing the Twins all in one lump, there was at least 4 hangers that had 3-4 Twins one right after another. Collation machine seems to skipping a beat with this product.

For breakers, the best way to handle the leaders cards is, they go to the team of whoever is the top guy in that particular stat.
Just opened 2 of these for my birthday and got a James Outman 1988 auto in the first one and then a Salvador Perez relic in the next one so i guess hangers are bangers for me!
id love it if theres a SSP of julio with an image of him swimming into third. anyway, scottie b cards seems to think that the jumbo boxes are going to be loaded this year. just based on the odds comparison. based on his calculation he thinks the overall print run is actually down, but they're just biasing parallel cards toward hobby products. so far ive only seen one numbered parallel pulled (and you just pulled it) out of about 12-15 hanger and blaster boxes.
I hear JUMBO is where it’s at for this release. (So far)

I absolutely dislike the fact Topps made hanger packs basically mini vendor boxes. It’s already obvious if you’re looking for parallels you need to be buying jumbos which will no doubt be snagged up and inflated on the secondary market.
The big positives: Love the design! ‘83 was my favorite looking design. Also, the cards are well centered this year which is refreshing. Let’s see how that carries through to the expensive issues.

Harris card is sweet, even though I don't like the new design. Those 88, 35 year cards are nice, but they didn't post the career stats.

Was this pack odds a fanatics choice? Did they take over already? I went to Target this morning and they had blasters of 2023 and 2022 and WOW! I compared the odds and all I can say is I didn't not buy a single pack... smh

Hangers aren't bangers anymore, and retail in general appears (from other videos I've seen) that it will be a lesson in futility trying to pull anything other than base with the odd parallel every now and then.
Hobby odds WAY up, retail odds way down. Print run, in total, I don't think much different. Topps figured out you could buy 5 hangers and get more hits than a jumbo.
I agree with your JabsJudgement. This is the best looking set since 2018. I would definitely prefer the jumbo due to the odds.

They may move. Them to jumbo and hobby but then retail will also sit on the shelves alot more than it already is!
I guess I should have bought a lot more during the early- and mid-70's and 80's when I had more disposable income and a greater cultural affinity for the players than I do now ⚾

I feel parallels will be much more exciting to pull and definitely will increase in value from when you do pull them. Junk wax didn't have parallels so everything was a lot of junk. But now each card has so many variations and different chances to pull each which I think is more fun. Tho my money will not think so until I do find a hit

They're just running us small collectors out of the hobby prices are stupid I know several collectors who can't afford to keep buying these over priced cards
I feel like these high print runs will be the norm from now on so best to just deal with it and enjoy the cards as they are instead of trying to chase for "the hit".
I do have to say out of all the things I've opened, these are my favorite designed cards. They look too clean, and the inserts are just as good. Can't wait to open more but I wouldn't spend hundreds on the product unless you really want to throw your money away. Enjoy the cards maybe grab a blaster or 2 or a hobby or jumbo every once in a while and enjoy the opening!
I do have to say it's really sad they kind of killed the retail products. Seems like Topps is just now catering towards the people who can spends hundreds on hobby and jumbo. Even on the box they are flaunting to "collect them all" for the gold mirror variations but it's theoretically impossible to unless you're ready to spend millions on the product. Love the whole design for the product but disappointed on some of the decisions they are making with it.
Going to hold off on spending $$ on this since it's all mostly base. I'll wait to buy a few good rookies

Non hockey collectors won't no what I'm talking about but topps retail is starting to look a lot like UD retail
Make sure to check the backs of cards, the numbered cards are not always flipped, so you may have an advanced stats cards that you may not realize, or the short print cards as well, they now have SP or SSP on the back of the card near the number in the upper right corner to make it easier to spot.
