That is appreciated, Karl. Good stuff. So the time signature is 3/2 ? What a howl as a beginner to try these beats. I actually can read it after 4 lessons. Starting to come together. Your explanation is perfect. 😅
The time signature is 4/4, and the clave is a 3:2 rhumba clave, played on the ride (the top line). It can also be played as a 2:3 rhumba clave, but what makes this one so weird is that the clave is played with the right hand! Weird to me, anyway. The clave is almost always played with the left hand, or the left foot. I never did play the clave with my foot- it's on my list... thanks for watching!
Karl, I may be reading incorrectly. I thought the ride note sits at the middle of the top staff line and the hi hat note on top of the top staff line. 🤔
Some similarities. Songo has that straight 4 ride, tumbao on the kick, and no cascara. I LOVE songo! It's my go to. I've been working on a left foot clave underneath, 2:3 son, that goes really well with songo. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching and commenting. Here's me playing a classic songo: th-cam.com/video/kzDjx-M957Y/w-d-xo.html
These methods are what I use and teach besides the going back and going slowly again. Great stuff! This is why you are my teacher.
Thanks Meshem! Thanks for watching!

Oops! It’s actually in cut time, but it’s written in 4/4. Played the same either way…

The ride is the top line. No hihat is indicated on that music.
That's like songo :)
