Borahae! I am a singer/songwriter/producer that rediscovered my passion for music during the pandemic after hearing BTS. A wild musical journey ensued that reunited 2 childhood friends (me & Lucas). Great reaction. The arrangement and production were by Bobby Velasco, who has been working with Katrina Velarde for many years and knows exactly what Katrina can do vocally. Jessica is less established and she recently won a TV singing contest in the Philippines. You need some serious chops to do that, and I think Katrina liked what she saw and heard 'cause she reached out to Jessica to collab. The rest, as they say, is history. What a stunning performance. I have probably seen it at least two dozen times and it still blows me away every time.

Thanks for your reactions. Kat is a beast. At the end of the video, your comments about needing to arrange with the vocalist you have in mind to sign. At this level it definitely helps. Katrina not only sings, but arranges, produces, sings many of the background vocals as well. Her late husband, Mike Shapiro, was a very accomplished drummer and producer and I'm sure aided Katrina's development beyond singing. Katrina is musically gifted in many areas, which is why the arrangement works so well on her covers.

It is given that Filipinos love to sing. Local artists learn their basics from icons and are now pushing the limit for vocals --- harmonization, riffs, and choice of notes. They are doing great at this. This without any trace at gaslighting.

I teared when I first heard this for she had taken time off due to the death of her husband Mike Shapiro after a short 6 months of marrying him. Mike was the drummer in several of her videos, if you look back at them. Her face and voice emoted her deep loss, in my opinion. Great reaction and musical insights. The original song was done by Celine as a solo and Both Kat and Jessica had their own solo versions. Kat, most likely, had the most hand in the vocal arrangements as she even commented to reveal who was singing the higher notes in various parts to allay the brewing arguments among followers. Kat admitted to intentionally make it not easy to recognize as she had confidence in Jessica's high range, but she did not want further conflicts.

Incase you still dont know, the way they sing it is actually sa solo version of katrina herself. So probably she arranged it herself. She has a live version of it solo on her exclusive shows.

The song "I Surrender" was written by Louis Biancaniello and Sam Watters, and recorded by Canadian singer Celine Dion from her seventh English-language studio album, A New Day Has Come (2002). And Katrina/ Jessica's cover is on point. They both gave it justice if you will. American-Filipino here on the West Coast of the USA.
An addendum: The American Social fabric is very much punctuated by Filipinos/Filipinas, be it pure or a mixture, and currently, based on the most current census of the US, there are about 45 million of us Filipinos/Filipinas who are American Citizens. That, certainly, is saying something; a testament that Filipinos/Filipinas are, very much an integral part of American Society. I'm one of them.
It is a cover of a Celine Dion song. It was composed for one singer. It was Katrina who arranged the song so it can be sung as a duet. That is how talented she is. That is how dedicated she is in her craft. While others are in it for fame and money, mysic is her true passion.

Katrina usually (not always…Mama Knows Best) starts off intimate, more reserved…and by the end of the song, she’s punched you in the face, and sweetly ends leaving you with a smile on your face.

Ed Zachary! It's one thing having a singer with the capabilities of a Celine (original artist in this case), but actually conceptualizing a piece for this generational talent is another. I know David Foster wrote alot of her songs, which puts him firmly into legendary status. So if Dave is a legend, what does that make Mariah Carey? She wrote, or co-wrote most of her own material, for a voice nobody had really come across till she came along. What is she considered to be as a writer alone 🤯.
When it comes to this level of cover artist, it is a case of true artistry. Only if you are musically inclined, can one truly riff and run without being messy. The duet to kill all music duets 🤯
