Would LOVE to see AF regain his 2800 form and get in the mix for world championship contention. He would be so difficult for anyone to defeat in a match format, particularly if it progressed to faster time controls … such a fun player to follow.
Alireza's Bxf6 while running on fumes is not just devilish, it's outrightly brave. He really trusts these very deep and sometimes strange-looking plans that pop up in him. That's what to love about about chess so much. Have a little plan? Does it look good? Go and carry it out.
I was watching live this game, and I was surprised by the move Re6!!! I couldn't understand the idea behind this move reducing the effect of this rook, in place of Rb1 (engine suggestion) Visually, Re6 was ugly and insane. And I was stunned when I see the Nc5 by the opponent, giving to Alireza a winning position directly!!! Wow that was devilishly amazing😍
What a move at 08:28 I was just thinking Bishop takes d6 But why not play g3 !! Hit the rook. Defend the pawn. Then take on d6. Brilliant in-between move leading to a winning endgame Wow !!
Mainly because they are fighting for 2 spots in the candidates tournament but Carlsen doesn’t want to play or enter the world championship cycle so he’s not interested in this one I guess
Nice to see AF at a serious OTB tourny!

I love Alirezas games
Why isn’t Carlsen playing the Grand Suisse?
Mainly because they are fighting for 2 spots in the candidates tournament but Carlsen doesn’t want to play or enter the world championship cycle so he’s not interested in this one I guess
