  • The abundance of the Peruvian sea is a remarkable gift from nature, nurtured by the Humboldt Current (also known as the Peru Current), which flows from south to north and makes these waters among the most productive in the world. As custodians of this invaluable legacy, the National Fisheries Society, along with its partner companies, has been a key player in the stewardship of the Peruvian sea for over 72 years.
Through responsible fishing practices, particularly with the anchovy-its primary resource-the biomass has been successfully maintained at an average of over 9 million tons over the past 15 years, with current levels around 10 million tons. This exemplary management of Peru's most important fishery has earned international recognition from institutions such as the FAO, and Yale and Columbia Universities. These achievements are the result of collaborative efforts across the Peruvian industrial fishing industry, where the private sector has played a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of marine resources for future generations, in line with the 2030 Agenda.
The fishing industry has also made significant investments in technology, enhancing productivity and environmental sustainability. As a result, Peru now leads the world in the production of fishmeal and fish oil-marine ingredients that are increasingly in demand by the rapidly growing aquaculture industry, and which are essential for its development.
The National Fisheries Society unites the most prominent stakeholders in the production of high-quality marine foods and ingredients, fostering responsible and sustainable practices that respect the marine ecosystem and the environment. With 72 years of experience, the Society now stands as a leading guild, promoting ethical, transparent, and sustainable management of the industrial fishing industry, and contributing to the social, economic, and environmental development of the country and the communities in which it operates.
