This is an excellent video and narrative. It's comprehensive. Now, I may be 76, but in pretty good shape for an old fella. However, I must admit that every time I do underdash work, or any tight quarter work for that matter, I wish I was much shorter and lighter than the 6', 220 lbs that I am. This is a young person's game! So, for those like me who don't want to break anything or screw it up otherwise, a few pointers. First, disconnect the battery. Next, however much time you think this is gonna take you, at least double that! Next, take the darned driver's seat out before you begin, cuz it'll make gettin' under that dash a whole lot easier, and hopefully, fewer bruised ribs, and bruises. As always, cover up and properly cushion that damned floor mat positioning pin. othewise you'll wish you had done so! Next, don't worry about pulling on those darned plastic panels to remove them. Just follow Lehew's order of removing things, and watch how he grabs and removes those panels. BTW, just cut those loom wire ties loose from where they fasten into the steel areas under the dash. Don't waste your time trying to "carefully" pull them loose, as there are new ones on your new ign. sw. looms. Next, find a way to make a pick like Lehew's, cuz you'll make your life much easier trying to push that pin in when removing the switch housing, and reinstalling the new one. Do some deep breathing as you progress, and take your time. Lastly, drink a couple of beers!! When you get pissed, just keep asking yourself "WHAT'S THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN?" Helps reduce the anxiety. Take good care y'all.
Did this today. I usually only know enough to be dangerous, but the video was awesome. Completed in about 4-5 hours, but “completed” is the operative word. Thank you.
Thanks for the walkthru. Only thing I did different was to remove the 4 14mm head bolts that hold the column up. Made it much easier to find and locate the pin to push in.
Great vid... I was hoping for more vid detail on the Ignition-Switch replacement portion... At least I know now exactly which screws-need to come-off to get the plastic-shrouds off. In my case, I only want to replace the ignition Switch itself, not the cylinder.
Lehew Tech why did you replace the entire assembly instead of just the cylinder? Just asking because my 98 crv dies right after it turns over. Starter is about 5 years old, battery is about 1 month old.
All the steps where helpful, but my problem is that my ignition switch is locked on #3 position, it doesn't matter how hard I push the pin or I shake the switch, it doesn't comes out. Any help will be appreciated!
Any news to both of you? Did you manage to take it off i have same issue... car theft issue i recoverd it but its too late the keys are wrecked. Left it i. Position 3.
This vid is great, thank you! I may attempt it... Question for you, I assume then I’ll have to use the new key for the new ignition switch and the old key for the doors?
Chris Pyhtila That is correct. A competent locksmith may be able to rework the cylinder of the new ignition switch assembly to your old key prior to replacement. Good luck!
Thanks for posting. BIG HELP in knowing what to look for-- especially that the security bolt has a welded net there. I was going "nutty" trying to turn that with a socket. Lol! Thanks man!
I found a Beck/Arnley Switch and lock set with 2 keys for $124.55 on ebay, Is that good? and what about matching my doors to that new key or do they sell one WITH door lock cylinders too? www.ebay.com/itm/Beck-Arnley-201-2083-Ignition-Switch-Assembly/292220372765?fits=Year%3A1997%7CModel%3ACR-V%7CMake%3AHonda&epid=115341752&hash=item4409b1071d:g:sIwAAOSwstxVNc3T:rk:18:pf:0&vxp=mtr
Maybe if you take both the old and new switch to a locksmith will the keys he may be able to get the new assembly to work with the old keys. I would just throw in the new part and carry the old and new key tho
D you still remember what was the symptoms, I'm having the problem it won't start ,but I can start it from the starter. It won't do nothing from the key. Let me know please thanks for the vid too
Thanks for the vid. I am going to just pull out the bad wafers on my lock and stick it back in. Also I am going to just stick a normal bolt back in instead of a breakaway bolt because it was a bitch to take out. Can you guess about how much torque was on the bold before the breakaway nut released. Thanks
I replaced my ignition just like this. The only thing that bothers me is now I only have 1 key because the replacement ignition was used. Were can I go other then a dealer to get my key duplicated ?
Hi this one the best video teacher how you right good jod got my Honda CR-V ex 4x4 manual 2000 lost my key switch and now don't know what can do can used can got to work say need buy all parts you put you honda o can buy only the ignition switch key put it still I need to program it o no let me know please way can do it this to put back the st thank you

I couldn't get the ignition to the 1 position so I just hit it with a hammer till the whole thing rotated and fell off 😂 4 to 5 uuga duugas should do it guys
Great video thanks Lehew. Is it possible to install a cheap start push button switch rather than changing the ignition assembly and make it work? Just looking for a cheap alternative. Thanks again.
I know this video/reply was 1 year ago but how did you replace without the key? My CRV was also stolen and key wont turn into the #1 position. Thanks in advance
that breakaway bolt is so obnoxious all it does is make working on the thing more annoying no security benefit lol takes longer to get access to the bolt than it does to cut through it
A dremel tool for this job is essential: amzn.to/2GvDYDa
Where you got the parts got Honda CR-V 2000 ex manual need buy all parts los my key can let me now please thank

If you are to do this please unplug the battery before attempting this.
This is how a mechanic video should be done !
Do you need to have two sets of different keys to open the door ?
Yes, just cranks but won't turnover,
good walkthrough. what I did was just cut off the welded nut with bolt still in it, then just got new nut for that weird bolt
Yea man multiple ways to skin a cat
Got lucky, sprayed some PB Blaster into keyhole while key was stuck and it came out, sprayed a little more inside and it works like new!
Gonna try this too
Hello? What if i cant turn my ignition to 1? My key broke inside my ignition at position 0. Can I still remove the ignition?
Are you able to force the key to turn with a screwdriver?
I have the same problem. Theft attempted to steal it
Same problem
Before you do any of this, try your spare key, as most gen 1 CRVs now have well over 200k miles and the original key can become worn out.

Nuruddin Peters Just go ahead and replace the whole assembly brother

I have this problem as well. Attempted theft, someone broke the shaker key in position 3
Any news to both of you? Did you manage to take it off i have same issue... car theft issue i recoverd it but its too late the keys are wrecked. Left it i. Position 3.
I got mine stolen and the key is jammed in there. Do I need to replace the whole ignition switch kit? And do I have to remove the whole thing?
Where can I get the bolt? Do you have a pet number?
Will it work if the key is in position 3
Can I replace the assembly without having to cut anything I'm no mechanic at all and I'm trying to do this myself
Do you have to have it in possession one to do this
Lol can't find part number from my assembly. Where it's located? In not yet removed assembly.
This vid is great, thank you! I may attempt it...

What my customer did is he just added the new key to his keyring and used the original key on the door.

Are those new keys that came with the ignition cylinder, wondering if I need to change the chip in the key also
It did come with new keys and this model has no chip
Good vid!
Is there a risk of the airbag detonating while performing this repair? Would using power tools increase that risk?
Take the battery wires off then your good

It's a 2014 crv...

Great video thanks Lehew. Is it possible to install a cheap start push button switch rather than changing the ignition assembly and make it work? Just looking for a cheap alternative. Thanks again.
Good grief. Disconnect positive terminal and get rid of the door ajar beep!!
Couldn't do it brother I'd lose the emissions monitors needed to pass inspection

If u undo your door switch, it will stop beeping.
hold on. are you being serious when you say you have to tighten it and the back nut breaks off?
Yes, it's a security feature to make it harder to remove.
