    1 thing you should know about Costco is that they change up their inventory several times a year so, so if you really want something its usually better to buy it before it goes off of rotation, because you dont know when they will have it back in stock

    I love costco from my experience overseas BUT one store in NZ wont make a huge impact on the biopoly that has existed here for decades... yes it might force the stores close to costco to drop their prices but until costco are in all the main centres then packncountdownnewworld gang will just spread their profit loss across NZ or even put up prices in their other stores throughout NZ to compensate.

    Costco Canada opened in 1985. I thought the NZ prices high compared to Canada considering 1.00 CAD is 1.29 NZD but shipping costs to NZ are high. Amazon Canada is for me the cheapest source of cat foods and many human foods that they carry. Instant Pot was outrageously priced. On sale I paid 99.99 for mine which would be 70.00 ish NZD.

    The 5 kilo flour is nothing special. $5.99 for a bulk purchase. The Red Barn sells 1 kilo bakers flour and S.R flour for $1.00 a pack. Seems to me that items at Costco aren’t that special and not what they’ve been hyped up to be. Thank you for showing us this, tough times for our family, I’ll save the gas and just go to my local supermarket.

    • @ingzing
      @ingzing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I reckon it’s hard to store that much flour and for a lot of the perishables they wouldn’t stay good for the time it took to get through them. But I’m gonna try again in a month just to see more of the meat and freezable things, it was just chaos when I went 🥴 Till then Ill probably stick with pak n save for our weekly shop.

    • @furball8967
      @furball8967 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ingzing Yes, when one considers the current financial constraints on household income, buying in bulk isn't good budgetary advice. Imagine having only 2 types of food per week because your budget is gone as a consequence of buying in bulk.
      Yes! Please, show us the meat prices, and other frozen foods. Perhaps a segment just on 'Costco freezer' items.

    Looks like a con to me, everyone has paid a membership fee of $60 and looking at the prices they don’t look that cheap and you have to buy in bulk.

    • @pamelawing5747
      @pamelawing5747 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I have Executive membership here in the US and pay 110.00 and it's worth every penny. Gas for one. I just saved almost 2,000 on three pairs of prescription glasses and frames. Last time I bought at another place and same thing was almost 3,000.00.
      Also, to compare prices you have to look at the unit pricing. All grocery stores in the US have to post it, like the price per ounce for a can of tomato paste. Makes it very easy to compare prices if you choose.
      Their return policies can't be beat..they didn't used to have any restrictions until, of course, too many people abused it, but it's still the best. I get an extra four years warranty on major appliances, furniture and so on, with my membership. Just with the regular membership card you get an extra year over the manufacturer's warranty.
      My husband isn't brand conscious, so doesn't need Levis and such and I got great jeans for him when they had a sale on them. Instead of 29.00 , got them for 11.00. (US prices of course). I got him 10 pair. Won't have to worry about jeans for awhile. Just got my new mobile phone and new plan from Costco.
      I agree, Costco is not for everyone. It took be really a year or so to figure out what works for me and my husband. I sign up for "club prices" at a couple of grocery stores and shop their special member deals. Things are expensive, inflation, supply chain issues and so on are world wide and hurting everyone. You have to use due diligence when shopping. Costco is part of that for me.
      I just looked up the exchange rate between the US and New Zealand dollar and know why the prices seem so high to me. That 10.00 mayonnaise is just over 5.00 here. It's all relative.

    • @ingzing
      @ingzing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I think some things will be worth it ( gas, bulk meat, certain prescriptions) but that the rest of the food is up to the consumer to figure out if it’s a deal or not. And there is a lot of junk food. Like 1000 chupa chups 😂 the bottles are bigger so it would be hard to quickly do the math to figure out if it was an actual deal or just more product and more money. I hope it helps drives down supermarket prices. Food is so expensive in NZ for the average family.

    • @pamelawing5747
      @pamelawing5747 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ingzing They have a lot of prepared foods, chips, candy, and I never buy that. My husband eats chips and I can get better price, on sale, at the grocery store. I just don't eat that and don't eat fast food either. I pick what works for me and I've saved hundreds, if not thousands of dollars shopping there. Just because something is in the freezer case, I don't have to buy it. Oh, speaking of freezer, they have great prices on the HUGE shrimp. I try to get gulf of Mexico caught when I can and they have it from time to time. There are some countries I won't buy from. When I see what I want, and it fits my criteria, I buy it.
      It is NOT hard to figure the unit cost. It' s the UNIT price that's important. You can have a 40 oz, jar or and 10 oz jar. Take the price of the 10 oz jar and divide it by the ounces so if a 10 oz can is 1.00 its .10 per ounce. Then look at the 40 oz jar, and say it's 2.80, so divided by 40 ounces it's .07 per ounce. Not hard. Depending on the product, if you can't use it before it goes bad, then that negates those savings. Every household is different. I have a calculator app on my mobile so it's really easy. Bet you can get an app too.
      I am retired and I'm OK financially but have resources that I don't want to outlive, plus I hate wasting money so I take the time to compare. Its easy and it 'saves me money.

      Not quite some stuff isnt cheap but some is. For instance Persil Active Liquid is $31 for 6L. My nearest grocery is Pak n Sav which only sells the 4L for $27.99. Per L is a $1 save and as we go through a lot its cheaper in long run.
